I first want to thank Pow-Bow for having the courage to invite two strangers to hunt with him. Rich (aka sherpa-because he can climb anything) is an outstanding person. The hunt was outstanding, I have never seen that many mature bucks in a single place. The climb was brutal to say the least. Think of going up a mud covered step ladder for 4 hours on the way up, 6 on the way down in the rain! With 85 pound packs. Thank God we all made it safely back. Rich scored on a great buck the second day. A dandy that was 18in wide-nice shootin' Rich. Onions got close to several good bucks and was not able to seal the deal. The terrain got him once, there wasn't enough room to draw. I shot my deer on the first afternoon after watching him 2 1/2 hours. The shot was about 15 yards, he only went 40 or so before going down, Rich saw the whole thing happen. I hope to go back soon. That place was great! Awesome photos and fantastic deer!
Thanks for sharing.
Pow-Bow, you are what traditional bowhunting is all about. You made some great memories for a couple lower 48'rs.
Wow! Great pictures. Fantastic deer. The trail in the second to the last picture, is that a deer trail?
Looks like a GREAT hunt. Awesome Photos.
Awsome pics! Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a good time!

I love these feathers on the right sooo much.
gonna buy them as soon as i found out where to get them in germany. :-D
but i always wonder why you can go hunting with bright feathers (as the yellow or barred ones in this thread)?
i see people painting their face black, but shooting neon bright arrows is ok? ^^
you fellas done good. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks ever so much for sharing ,Unbelievable !
the deer trails are VERY well used, its to steep everywhere else, even for the deer. I would compare the climb from sea level to doing a tri athalon, then doing it again. The last time I was that beat I biked 106 miles in 5 1/2 hours.
Well it looks like I should have gone with ya. I talked with POW-BOW about this trip and decided I would rather do it later in the season. My bad.
Those are some dang good bucks guys.
Man I shoulda made the trip.
Thanks for posting, I was wondering if he got anybody together for it.
Awesome bucks and pictures. Where did you get the pink and yellow barred feathers. I WANT SOME
Finq... many times guys will cover the fletch with a fletch cover of some sort. Or just go as is and don't wave the bow around a lot.
Guys! What a great trip. The bucks are awesome, the country gorgeous and pretty dang good company to be with.
That's a young mans hunt for sure.
Awesome trip and even better deer!
What beautiful country and nice bucks also !

Very nice fellas I would love to go up there sometime for a hunt like that! What do you figure it would cost door to door you can send me a private message if you want! Terrific bucks!
Nice work and great bucks!
I got back a few weeks ago and can't wait to go back!
Awesome pictures and magnificent deer. Those two bucks you guys killed are awesome. Many people won't realize the logistics of your hunt and the quality of your Sitka deer (unless they beet-feet up into the alpine).
Your right, Rich is a goat! You guys are some hard core Sitka deer hunters. Thank you for sharing.
Chuck
Awesome critters guys, I'd love to be young enough again to give that a go. Thumbs up!!!!!!
Love the pictures, congratulations on a great hunt.
Great stuff right there!!!
What Charlie said....I use bright feathers and a fletch cover.....that way I don't flag myself.
Congrats to you guys again. :campfire:
Man, those are some great bucks. And doesn't it feel great putting some sweat in for 'em ? Congrats !
It was a great time. Whether any deer were taken or not it would have been a success. No matter the terrain, weather, or crazy place I wanted to take these guys they had a smile and positive attitude.
I wasn't to sure about my whole plan of bringing a couple guys I don't know up and taking them out, kind of a winter doldrums idea, but I'm really glad I did. They are a couple of stand up guys. I'm hoping they'll come back and give these deer another try.
Chris and Todd, thanks much. Can't wait to do it again!!
Few more pixs.

Great pics, if those don't get dreams of an Alaska adventure goin in yer head, you don't have a pulse! :)
Incredible! Thanks for the beautiful pictures and congratulations on those great blacktails!
Awsome!
Wow, what a great hunt! Beautiful country and some bruiser bucks, congrats!
Myself and another Tradganger are headed to Alaska in November for the same type of hunt!!! The similarities are incredible. The tradganger and I have never met as of yet but we have been talking/emailing weekly, trading/selling bows for the last 5 years :) The friends I have made on this site alone are invaluable!! We are headed out to tame the Blacktails with our bows with another traditional archer who resides in Alaska and has invited us out--In which case none of us have met yet and this hunt has come together on the sole premise of our passion for trad archery. Incredible--Just incredible to me. A leap of faith for all, one I would never consider if it weren't bound together by the moral strands of traditional archers.
Sweet! This is a hunt I really would like to do soon.
Hope you include us in your journey Kevin. Sounds like a great trip.
I wonder if the deer numbers go up and down with the severity of the winters up there?
This hunt is on my list of to-do's. Thanks for sharing the pic's and story. Looks like some beutiful country!
outstanding! if you didnt already have a desire to do this hunt, after those pics you will!!
Very cool pics, congrats
Snag,
It will be a trip of documentation for sure! I will take many photo's and be sure to post here for all to see.

Luvthehunt and Onions used longbows. Luvthehunt used one he made himself and I can't remember what make Chris used.
I figure if you're going to hunt blacktails then you better use a Blacktail bow so that's what I shoot.
Outstanding! I really need to get up there hunting. Blacktails are gorgeous animals, looks like there are a few bruins up there too.
Great deer guys! Some beautiful country there as well!
any problems with bear in/near camp with the deer meat??
Nice work. I've spent a little bit of time hunting the alpine myseld, and that looks like a really neat spot. I always love it when you get out in the middle of nowhere and there's a game trail the size of a highway.
Here are a few pics I've taken, while cruising the golf course.

Hey Beau good to see you here.
Only 156 days to go....
Oh yeah 164 days for you -Ha
Beauhunter those pics are too beau-tiful. Wow, what a great site for a camp. Just start hunting right out of your tent. This a hunt I need to do.
Oh, that was dirty Rich. I might just have to get a P.O. box in Craig now. Don't get ahead of yourself now. You don't want to skip over King season.
Snag, I filled my first tag this year on opening day after I heard a deer spook right outside of my tent. I crawled out into the alpine in my skivs to check it out and was plesantly surprised to find a large buck standing there.
Here is a more humble camp from a few seasons ago. This is how we go light. Got to admit, it was pretty chilly at night though.

What a grand adventure!!! Thanks for sharing, and beautiful bucks.
I'll take a 3 seasons tent...thank you. haha I have had muley does actually stick their head right into my tent up in the Cascades...probably wondering what all that snoring is! Do you see many bears?
you do see a fair amount of bear in the alpine up here sometimes, and some pretty big ones too. The fact that you can see long distances helps a lot. one morning I woke up and glassed 5 bears in one bowl. needless to say...there were no deer around that time.
Thanks for the pics they were great.
I could pull up a chair and look at the view all day, what a place/places.
Again gents...WOW!!! Great pics there and awesome story.
wow awesome bucks!!! I might have to see if I can swap a sheep hunt for a blacktail hunt ;)
