Title: ILF limb Question
Post by: Whitetail Chaser on September 08, 2010, 12:52:00 AM
Here goes.

I have a Black Onyx ILF riser (15").  I am wondering about getting limbs for it for a short hunting bow.

Are there limbs out there that I could put on this bow resulting in an AMO 56 inch bow that can be drawn smoothly to 29 inches???

I don't want to get stuck buying a set of limbs that won't do what I want.

Thanks,
Brett

if you don't mind going up two inches you can use Morrison "C" limbs that make a 58" bow on a 15" riser.

Any ILF "short" limb will make a 56" bow on your 15" riser. Give Lancaster a call, they can help you out.

May also want to look at Dryad.  I just bought an Epic ILF riser and their static tip recurve ILF limbs and it a shooter....

And don't forget Jim Belcher, I have a couple of pairs of his limbs and they are  very smooth.

I'll second Dryad, Mike's static tip recurve limbs are very nice.  I pull mine to 30" on a 58" bow, no problems and very smooth.  The price is right as well.

Short limbs will make a 56" for you as stated above. That said, you'd be much better off with a set of mediums and a 58" bow. Limbs will have a longer life span and that length limb will give you a better sweet spot for your draw length.

If you choose shorts or mediums, you might be better off leaving them in the lowest weight setting so that you avoid putting any undo stress on them because of pre-load.

The above advise is sound. Unless you can find a mfgr. who can make a 56" ILF bow you are tempting fate making one with such a short length and long draw. I'de go no shorter than a 58" bow given your draw length and I know you don't want to hear it but a 60" bow would be more in line with your stated draw length.

I have a Black Onyx and draw to 29". I ended up with Black Max Carbon long limbs "60" bow" to get a smooth bow. You could probably get by with Mediums (58" bow) at 29" but I think the short (56" bow)limbs will stack pretty bad for your 29".

The angle on your riser will dictate the draw on a shorter Limb. A 15" riser with a 20 degree angle, should not be a problem with a 30" draw and a short limb,, Don't think the preformance is going to be any better than the longer bow,but just might work better in a close area.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm mainly looking to make an ILF bow for ground blind hunting.

I may just have to move up to mediums for a more comfortable draw.  58 inches is still a pretty short bow for moving around in the bushes.
