Hey Guys, got a question.
I am changeing my setup for my 50# longbow, was shooting a different setup but I just setp up some gt 3555, 30 inches, standard insert with a 200 grain magnus I up front. My total arrow weight is 502.This brings me in at 10 grains per pound.
Do you think this set up will be to light for deer and hogs, i like to be in the 550-600 range but would have to do alot more tinkering to do that.
My other set ups were a lil heavier but with magnus 2 broadheads and penetration has never been an issue, but my broadheads were not as wide as the mag1 broadheads.
Thanks

You will be just fine,as long as you are tuned for perfect arrow flight. If you feel like tinkering to get it up to 550-600,have fun.

You should be fine at 500 gr, but going up some would be good, IMO. If you have some extra arrow length to play with getting another 50 grains up front should work quite well.

You could use a weight tube for the extra weight without messing with spine too much. Weed whacker line or the stuff sold at any of the online archery suppliers.
If you want to maintain FOC you could use heavier weight tube in the front part of the arrow and less at the back. Not sure how it would impact flight, but wouldn't take much to try it out and cheaper than new stiffer arrows to pack more point weight.

My long bow shoots 33/55's with a 240 grain broadhead just fine.

Hey Chase! i use almost the same setup but i shoot 48lbs at my 27 inch draw length. i shoot 175grain silverflame XL's or VPA terminators. i have no problem getting pass thrus on deer and i got a passthru on the last pig i shot. Keep your shots broadside or slightly quartering away. My arrow weight comes in at about 480 grains. Just make sure your broadhead is extremely sharp and you absolutely won't have a problem! Good luck to you sir!

I was wondering the same about the weight of my arrows. I am hunting whitetails here in pa. My arrows are weighing 485 grains 175 up front (125+50 grain brass insert). I am afraid to add any more weight up front because the bareshafts were flying weak until I made adjustments now the flight is PERFECT. I was wondering what others thought? I am shooting a 55lb. gamemaster my draw is only a 26 so I am losing some poundage. Will this weight work? Thanks for your help!
