What do you think of his books/videos about shooting? :archer2: Any input on him would be awesome.
I read and still refer to it , the book, all the time. It is a very easy read and he explains everything well. I reccomend the book.
FWIW, he's one heck of a nice chap, I can tell you that. A real pleasure to meet and just chew the fat with both him, and his wife. I also like his book and his DVD.
At the Baltimore shoot about 3 or 4 years back. John Dill and I were lucky enough to have a number of chats with Byron and a couple with his wife.

Couldn't find this one earlier (it was right beside the other one - DUH! - LOL)

I too have nothing but positive things to say about Byron. His book is excellent reading and makes sense to me. He was a true gentleman to my son and I at the Baltimore shoot a few years ago too. Really felt like he took the time to talk to us....not just at us. Signed my son's quiver and for a 8 year old he was on cloud nine!
I met Byron in a hotel bar in Indianapolis after a long day at the archery trade show some years back. He was there with Zack representing Bear archery. We talked for an hour like we knew each other for years. When i had to leave i went to reach for my tab and he grabbed my wrist and said "i got this, compliments of Bear archery" with a big smile. A great lasting impression. I also shoot his split vision style.
My daughter & I met Byron Ferguson little over a year ago & also watched him perfom, an amazing shot & a gentleman, a real pleasure to talk to & watch.
I think I've read his book a few dozen times & always seem to refer to it when I have a question.
I saw Byron in Louisville many years ago at one of his shows. I talked with him briefly at his booth afterward and bought his book, "Become the Arrow", which he autographed. After reading it and applying his method of shooting to my pitiful way, my shooting improved drastically, and in a short period of time. I'm still no "William Tell", but I am very confident in my shooting and I owe most of it to that one book. I've never seen his videos but I highly recommend his book. It also has very good hunting info contained in it as well.
I recently read Byron's book and found some very useful information. Well worth the purchase price.
I have Byron's book and I think I have all of his videos, including the arrow making & camp cooking videos. I even have his original, home-produced version of "Become the Arrow" on VHS, that he made many years ago before he became so well known. I think it pre-dated his book. I've seen him perform twice, both times at the Bloomington, IL Whitetail Deer Classic.
Here's an old photo I dug up that was taken on one of my bear hunts with Byron and some of our Alabama and KY buddies. . . nearly 20 years ago I think. R-L is Byron, Jerry Simmons (Simmons Sharks inventor), Fred Pape (Papes Archery), and myself. I still do Byron's website for him. Check out the YouTube video we just posted of Byron trick shooting with his little grandson Paxton. Fun stuff.

Thanks for all your input and great pics!
Does anyone know what shooting style he does? gap, instinctive, split vision....etc..etc.
I love his book and video on "Become The Arrow". Very basic and good direction.
That pic is neat, Gary - but tell me one thing - how come most of us get more belly as we get older and Byron has been able to go the other way - LOL.

A Split Vision style which for the most part is what I incorporate up to 40 yards.
1978 Byron influended me to the longbow with his incredible shooting & personable demeanor. No stuffed shirt here. Shot nothing else but heavier LB since. IMO he's the best alive. Additionally a huge archery steward on par w/Fred Bear & HH & a great guy willing to help.

Accoding to Byron he is a gap shooter. His Become The Arrow method is similiar to Howard Hill's Split Vision Method of aiming with a few new wrinkles added(same as gap shooting). This is a quote from his book which I have and have read many times. Great guy and I have one of his Royal Safari bows that he himself built not a Bear model. I also have one of his sons Zach's Z64 bows.
To quote Jerry Simmons: "Ya can't believe everything ya see on TV can ya BYRON??" Does that include pot bellies?? LOL
I notice from watching the new Youtube and all of the others that Byron doesn't change bows very often. Seems like he has a shorter one that he hunts with and the same old longer one that he does his trick shooting. Personally, I am not a good enough shot most days to decide which bow is the one and only one to use. Although, I will admit to never having the experience shooting one of Byron's bows, so maybe he knows something I don't, beside being able to out shoot nearly everyone alive today.
I have his book and DVD of become the arrow.
Both very good and well worth the money.
Byron is a Personal "Hero" of Mine. A Very Nice Man to Speak & Generally Communicate With Too!! Everyone Needs a Personal Archer to Aspire and Look Up to, Byron is All that for Me!!
I have the DVD "Become the Arrow" and another One, the Name of it escapes "Me Pea-Brain" at this exact moment   , and I watch him Shoot on the History Channel anytime he is On!! My Opinion: You cant Go Wrong with ANY of his Instructional Books or DVDs.
Of course, I am a tad biased.
Interesting thread, my book just showed up in the mail a day or two ago. Enjoying the read. Also picked up Hunting The Hard Way at the same time. They go well with a bit of Turkey 101 at the end of the night.
As I recall Byron's go to exhibition bow was always the "Royal Safari" model which he made himself. Bear Archery has been making that model for himn in recent years, plus Byron sometime shoots some of the bows his son Zach makes, specifically the model based upon his Dad's old "Patriot" deflex-reflex. I have 5 or 6 bows that Byron made for me way back when and also one of Zach's new creations he made for my son. Zach makes a nice bow too.
"Become The Arrow" is a great book! But then... Why read only one? What I mean to say is read all you can, watch the videos, learn a little bit from each author and you'll be on you way to good shooting.
... mike ... :archer2: ...
Well, Byron is an Ambassador for Archery, a good role model and gentleman. There has been some talk about his trick shooting and how there is no place for it in hunting and he paces certain distance, yada-yada. Byron, is a gentleman and will talk with anyone who is willing to chat with him and his wife too, hard to find this day and age. With his shows and television shots in an age of video games, Bryron peaked alot of interest and got alot of people (kids and adults) into archery. He is a great shot and makes great tackle. I have talked with Byron every year at the illinois deer/turkey classic, and bought his book have a bow he made me himself. He puts himself out there where few tread to further the passion he has for archery and the way of the longbow.
great book. It helped me alot
