I just ordered a KME knife sharpener with the regular stones and I was wondering how I am supposed to clean them. do you just use the oil to float the metal and then rub with a rag? if so do you all have any alternatives to the oil? I have a feeling I'm gonna go through the oil pretty quick and i don't wanna have to keep ordering oil. also how long did it take from the time you ordered it until the time you recieved it? my season starts in 12 days and i was wondering if it would get here in time. nothing like waiting till the last minuite :knothead:
Clean the stones with a little dish soap works good. Liquid wrench makes stuff called super oil, you can buy a good size container of it cheap at a auto parts store seems to work pretty well.
Right now my left arm only has a few little patches of hair left, Ive since started using my legs. Wife says it looks real sexy.
Yep, dish soap is what I use and it does a nice job cleaning the stones.
Just got thru sharpening Mason's Buck folder, WOW !!! These things are awesome !!! :scared:
For another oil option you can use 3 in 1 oil. Works very well.
If you don't like the horrific smell of the honing oil, try vegetable oil, according to Ron it works fine...
Also, according to Ron, use the liquid wrench and blot it with a towel. Don't try to rub it clean. Rubbing will just embed the filings.
Doc Nock.... THANKS ! Yes, that honing oil is horrific ! Same as my old tri hone from Smiths. I remember how bad it smelled, even after you washed your hands. Seems like as long as you keep the stones lubed they clean themselves. Just blot every now and then and add new oil.
