Went out to the hunting property along with the owner and we built a fire in the fire ring; it was truly a beautiful night with temps being in the upper 60's and the stars almost seemed like you could reach up and touch them; finally looked at the watch and it was after midnight.... :scared: ...we had sat there for over 6 and a half hours laughing and talking and remembering our hunts; for those 6 plus hours there wasn't a care in the world;
Has anyone else ever sat around a good campfire and was takin' away from it all? I just love the "magic" in a good campfire...... :campfire:
Some of the best of times,,, for sure!
I agree with you, there is something mystical about a nice fire. I build them quite often at home even. It must be some past connection from when fire was used for heat, cooking and protection from the creatures of the night.
has happened so often, you light the fire, put the kettle on, snack a bit now and then, drink together a hot brew (or a cold one) and keep talking till finally one makes the mistake to put time back into the scene and its past midnight and common sense tells you to go for a sleep before dawn...i think sometimes we just should keep sitting till the magic is gone and not let the magic be swept away by the clock.
Very well said Saumensch!

Good reminder.
All persons at my fire had better leave their sundials in their tents!

Many a great thoughts/inventions have been concocted around the campfire. I like to listen more than talk, and my brain gets to churning so the next day begins the putting my thoughts together stage.
Many nights by the fire and you find it is wee morning. Where did the night go?
GOOD TIMES!!!!!
I know what you mean. Some of life's best times.
Only the lucky ones have set by a huntin camp fire.
This doesnt really pertain to bowhunting but to camp fires for sure. Im reminded of this time at a Cviil War reenactment. We were camped in this holler with a little creek running alongside us. U could here the creek gurgleing. The fire crackeled and comforted us as it was just gittin that crisp feel of fall. The moon was full but the stars were still bright as the mornin sun. Just me and a buddy set their, camped along that creek and peered up through the beech trees and were mesmerised by the smoke as it wafted up through the beams of moon light that shown through the trees. I was quite takin but the whole thing. It was like transcending time.
I plan on Camping alot while hunting this year. Hopefully ill git the same magical experience.
I'm in need of one of those campfires after a very hectic summer.
An Older fellow that ive camped with many times always said you can talk around the campfire or if you sit in silence the campfire will talk to you. I thougt that was pretty cool.
In one of the wmas where I camp there is 1 big fire ring made of rock. Every night all the hunters leave their area to gather around that ring instead of having individual fires. I've met some fine people sharing that fire.
Just got back from flyfishing/scouting trip in colorado, and the best memory of trip was the campfire at nights with dad and brother in law in the backcountry. The fishing was good by the way.
I always tell the wife a camp fire is good for the soul,,,
The woes and problems of the world have been solved around a campfire :campfire:
Several years back my best friend bought a big canvas wall tent which we used for group hunts. It had a stove jack but he didn't have a stove but one day when hunting a public land area a fella pulled into the lot with a small pot bellied stove laying in the back of his truck that he was going to throw away. Naturally my friend was able to bring it home. Not knowing anything about the stove, I just happened to stop by when he was unloading it from his truck and we set it up in the driveway with one short piece of stack pipe and lit it. We sat around, talked for hours and drank too many Sam Adams beers that were chilled to perfection by the foot of snow in the back of my pickup. Temp was high teens or low twenties but we had on our wool and sat close to that stove and had a fine evening. I'm thinking we had the door hanging open but don't really recall for sure. All I remember was how fun it was and how the time just flew by. Sure wish Bob was still around. I'd love to share a couple cold ones and some stories again.
Here's a pic of him and I at a later hunt where we had the stove in the tent. That's me on the left and Bob on the right. Yea, it's just a silhouette but I treasure that picture.

Gonna be doin' that this weekend with family and friends I hope...Always a great time to reflect on the things that really matter.
Saumensch...spent many nights at fire and woke up next to it or still sat there in time to put breakfast on.

Might be easier to find anyone who didn't find campfire magic. Best of times counting & recounting mesmerized by a crackling fire.
I love time spent around a campfire
I understand what the old guy meant by the fire talking to you. I can't wait to camp and build be a fire weather it is with people or without, I can set by a fire all night just watching it. God Bless Ty
I've heard it said the time you spend fishing doesn't count against the time you are given in this life. I belive that goes as well for time spent around a campfire. :campfire:
Many of friends have shared fires with me to just coals in the in the morning light. :campfire:
Just last night spent several hours outside around a wood fire. Good friends, good memories, good times.
I can almost smell the smoke and hear the wood crackeling... There is just something about the dance of the flames and the rising sparks that will carry away all the cares of life for a while. Peaceful.
My husband, Mockingbird, likes to use flint and steel. A fire pit is about the only thing that can roust him out of bed early in the morning. I guess I picked a good one.

By the way, where did ya come up with an almost green leaf when it looks like their all off the trees except the oaks and there's snow on the ground???
Weird stuff happens in my hunting area.
We call it Monster Mansion.
Here is a cruel trick!
