Title: Gasket Lacquer / Different Colors: Question for Arrow Builders
Post by: jcar315 on September 05, 2010, 07:53:00 AM
I am trying to find a resource for "different" colors of gasket lacquer. Looking for bright red, orange, light blue, bright yellow etc.

Did a search but didn't turn up what I was after. Do any sponsors have anything like this?

I bought some "yellow" and some "red" but the yellow was more of a dull yellow and the red was more of a really dark red. Want something bright.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

Try this dye the shaft the color you want.  When you then dip clear over the dye, the color will really POP!  There are many colors of dye.

There is a company in Tennessee that sells gasket lacquer, which is used in the coating of pencils. So there are tons of colors to choose from.

The "Gasket Lacquer" sold by the archery community is made by Randolf Paints or Manufacturing somewhere in the East-think Massachusetts-but good luck trying to buy from them as an individual.

One is better to check out the firm in Tennessee-wish I could remember their name?

Thanks guys!

Kelly, I think I was able to "google" them up and another place. Sent the generic "contact us" email so we will see where that goes.

The white I get now is super bright and exactly what I am after. Trying to get more "old Bear" type colors.

John,
Where did you find the red Gasket Lacquer?  All I have been able to find is white and yellow.

Mike Horton at The Nocking Point has my orange made up for me.  He may have a minimun order of several cans.

thanks for the heads up Gordon. Any chance for a pic of some of your orange arrows?

How do you order custom colors from TNP?

Trap said he was using Krylon spray indoor/outdoor, so I did some checking and found some others.I bought the Outdoor Spaces spray in white, a clear Polyurethane for overcoat, and small lacquers in a number of colors. Today I found White (satin) and Yellow in quarts for 7.79 at Wal.... It is an Acrylic Latex Enamel that can be used on wood, metal, plastic etc. Also, bought a quart of their Sealer.

Here is a website to their specialty products. They have numerous products and colors.

Not all krylon paints will accept fletching glue.  I had one do great with one glue and just the opposite with the other.  It caused the paint to bubble as it dried.  White would peel right off while lt. blue held up like a champ.

Hey guys, I have been using Rit dye in purple for shaft and Krylon khaki for crown for years.  The gasket laquer works well with them and duco works great.
