Post by: Shawn Leonard on September 02, 2010, 11:30:00 AM
Indiana this Nov. where is the best area of the state to hunt. Meaning public access and a chance to knock on some doors and get permission to hunt. I will have the whole month of Nov. off and really want to bowhunt Indiana!! Anyone with some ideas, let me know. Terry Recievur(sp.?) told me I could come next year but I would like a head start!! Thanks folks! Shawn

So you want to hunt Indiana. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that before! That's cool! Southern or northern would be better than where I am I'm thinking. John Scifres might be able to help you with the southern part. He organizes an early Oct. hunt every year. I plan to go this year.

Most of the public land is in the southern part of the state. The first 2 weeks of november are always good hunting with the 4th-12th being the best in my opinion!

Door knocking still works but is not anywhere near as easy as it was just a few years ago as the lease thing has caughten on in Indiana pretty quickly recently.

There are some public areas in the northern part that have good opurtunities as well. Willow Slough FWA has been good to me in the past.

Indiana is going to become much more of a hotspot especially for folks who would like a crack at 3.5 year old deer and older. The change to a 1-buck per season limit (multiple does) will be huge. We made this change in KY in 1992. We went from 0-1 BC buck per year to 50+ per year.

I hunt Indiana also. Last year on the same 200 acre farm I saw three different bucks that would have exceeded 150 PY . The closest was 38 yards.

I was figuring the first 2 weeks of Nov. I also have researched some things and I know Indiana has some nice bucks and I will venture that in the next 5 years there will be a couple bucks taken in the top ten or 15 ever killed!! Steve, I will be sending you a PM very soon!! Thanks guys and keep it coming!! Shawn

Shawn, You'll have to push all the bunnies over to make room for deer meet.
