Boy, kids these days! What can ya do? Girls hit about 13 and all of a sudden get a mind of their own, get into their own hobbies, start asking if they can dye their hair, sometimes doing it first and asking permission later... Ooooiii!
Then they go and hit about 15 and want to run off with their friends all the time. I had my daughter shooting a little recurve when she was 2 1/2 years old. Going deer hunting with me when she was about 5 and shot her first doe with a rifle at 12. Just when you think you've got some habits ingrained they go and do something like this....
She runs off for the afternoon with her friend and my camera. Uh oh. What's the plan?????
Well let me show ya what she did for the afternoon.
She's catchin' butterflies...
Taking close up pic's....
Climbing trees...AND she snuck her bow out of the house!
Oh wait....uh... hey, ain't that a good thing????
Yup, I'm the Daddy to a tom-boy and proud of it!
Here's a couple more.
Pretendin' she's sneaking up on sumthin'.
Taking a little break. By the way, this one is my new wallpaper.
Oooooooh! Dangerous! But she told me "Dad, I didn't have the arrow on the string. I was just faking it. I'd never point a bow that close to my friend." Hey, maybe she does listen sometimes.
Put a camera in a kids hands and they just start to notice little things like this.
And this.
And this.
She's gonna hunt deer with the bow for the first time this fall. Think she's ready?
Might have to work on that camo a bit. Apparently she's immune to chiggers though....
Yup, she's right at home in the woods eh?
You are a lucky man Dave. Good job rais'n 'em right.
Very nice Dave. Job well done! Tell her good luck with the bow this season. Enjoy!
Travis
Pretty dang cool. You are a lucky man.
Thats awesome brother! Congrats on a great kid!
Fantastic photos, the fact that she even thought to take the bow with a friend along shows that it is important to her.
I hope you have access to a lot of acreage and a backhoe. You gonna need it with the lovestruck boys start showin up

Yea, I guess your right. I gotta clarify though, the "friend" was a neighbor girl, not a boy. They've been friends since about 3 years old and her dad was my best friend and the guy who taught me most of what I know about bowhunting. He died of cancer a few years ago and I've kinda adopted his daughter when it comes to doing outdoor things.
I just thought it was funny/great that two teen age girls would take a summer afternoon walk in the woods and take a bow and arrows along. Too cool!
She obviously had a VERY good upbringing and teacher. Most of the time kids are products of their mentors and enviorement. When the boys start hanging around ,and they will blunts work real well!.Well done my friend.
Hey Dave, I remember when she was a little girl at Mojam of about 8, with perfect form at the shooting range, and I mean perfect form. How old is your boy now? Has his face grown into his big eyes? You've got beautiful kids.
My daughter(13) hasn't died her hair yet. Yet.
Great pics.Beautiful young lady...and shoots trad..Will make some fella very lucky one day.
Very COOL!!!
Congrats
I can give testimony about Dave's children, they are some of the best behaved kids you would ever want to meet.
I have shared campfires with them at Hermann and Marshall and over years they just got better.
You can hold your head high Dave! You and mom have been great examples to all.
Thanks for sharing!
God bless,Mudd
You have done it right, you should be very proud of your little girl.
Beautiful young woman! i know you are a proud father. Great pictures!
Very Cool! Way to go! :clapper:
Dave, it's great to hear about your daughter taking her bow with her for a walk in the woods! You are a lucky man.
They should give some lessons on photography to a few of us, those are some great pics!
I would say you should be proud, but that's pretty obvious.
Good for her and better for you my brother. I wish my daughter showed interest.
As the father of twin daughters ... very cool.
vermonster hit my sentiments dead on.
You have obviously been a huge positive influence on her young life. It shows in the bows and the photography. It is so cool that you have managed to keep up that great relationship right on through what can be some difficult years for many fathers. Great job Dave!
Very nice story and some great pics!
Great job Dave and great pictures. If you keepem in the woods they wont be on the street.

And if Dave is anything like me, he'll try to make sure
someday will be when she's about
30!!
Congrats man, it looks like you've got yourself a great daughter. Can't wait to see her pics from her first deer!
Too cool!!! Those pics are great bud, your daughter and her friend have some talent, really!
I have a 2 year old daughter... I am planning on raising her the same way you did bud and can only hope that she turns out as cool as yours
Gee, Dave, I think you have a budding actress , or photo layout director/model there but whatever - you have one to be proud of, I'm sure. Even if she never does any of those things, and just remembers dad's teachings, as she seems to be doing, she'll be a "keeper".
I'll have to pull a couple of those Full Draws - will be on Page 22 of my Traditional Bows drawn section of my website - soon. Just keep checking.
Threads like this make my heart soar, but also somewhat sad not having had kids...I've had to live vicariously through my friends' children.
That is amazing series of pics and she is one pretty young lady. As I tried to put myself in your shoes, Dave, I just had to smile.
What a joy, but as you know and have been counseled here already... hold onto yer hat!
That li'l heart breaker is gonna give you grey hair yet when the boys start flockin around..if they've not already!
Keep the Son in your eyes!
Your a very lucky man and she is lucky to have been exposed to the things you have shown her....well done!
Great photos. You surely must be proud of her. I speak from experience that kids will remember the trips and experiences you exposed them to all of their lives. And I don't mean just your kids, any kid you took the time to teach.
That's some pretty cool stuff there. Some creative pictures too. Hopefullt we'll see a pic w/ her and her deer in about a month.
Dave, Dave, Dave,
Everybody has been trying to cover up the obvious. That poor girl will never be normal
as in normal like the computer game and image obsessed people who think success is being noticed in a tabloid or a reality (HAH!) TV show.
Congratulations to your entire family. Keep the stories flowing and enjoy every part of your kids as they grow to adulthood. I have three kids that just make my heart bust... even when they make me crazy (purple stripes in strawberry blond hair).
Very cool & I agree a beautiful young woman with the right things on her mind.
I only hope that my 8 & 3 year old's will turn out like your daughter in intrests, trust me I'm trying, my 16 year old with her mom "first marriage" well I still lover & cherrish her...
My daughter is three will be ordering her a bow after I get this Hurricane outta the way - this thread just fired me up that much more. Great pictures, sure you are very proud.

Congrats, that is awesome. I hope my 2 little ones keep the love of the woods in em when they get older!
beautiful daugther..know you are proud.
Terrible when a good kid goes bad like that. The teenage years are a troubling time for them.
Congratulations on a fine young lady.
Obviously the product of parents who have taken time to "be with thier children" when they are with thier children.
Not off somewhere, still at work in thier mind's eye. Or what they could be doing in thier free time.
This type of thing is good to see, lets us know that the family is still important. Your interest in what she is doing also reflects this.
God has been good to you, as He has been to us all.
God bless,
Farmer
Holy Crow, Dave! She reminds me of me! (She's much prettier than I was at her age, though.)
I sure would have a blast with her in deer camp. She and I seem to notice the same type of stuff, and she certainly has an eye for photography.
I am eaten up right now with tick and skeeter bites. All those bare legs and arms have me scratching, even where I haven't been bitten yet, LOL. Thank you both for sharing a wonderfully fun afternoon, and for letting me know that there are still some well-balanced folk growing up out there.
Do me a favor, and show her my story in Memorable Hunts, here is a link. I think she will see that we are much alike.

Killdeer :wavey:
no one could be like you killie your priceless i mean that in agood way. :)
Thats awesome Dave!!! Hope to see ya"ll at Snows this year.
Your daughter is great! I only wish the good lord had given me a daughter. Cherish these moments.
Some of Gods greatest blessings Dave. Make sure you thank him. Take care and God Bless.
No one told me what it would be like when I married my wife who has a (then) 13 year old daughter. I had no clue what I was walking into. Had no clue my heart had room for so much more love. Tis a cool and VERY SCARY thing to be a teenage daughter's dad!
My daughter does the same thing with her camera.
Congrats sir and be proud, very proud. Heritage is a good thing.
BTW, the picture with the arrow "pointing" at the camera is by far the coolest shot.
:clapper:
Thanks for sharing Dave. Don't think you will have to worry much when the boys start coming around. The longbows seem to keep them in line. I watched my 15 year old daughter one day while shooting in the backyard with a boyfriend ( a compound shooter by the way) I could see he was trying to tell her how she should be shooting. About that time the longbow whipped around, using it as a 'pointer' she pointed to a spot 20 ft away, at which time he walked away like a little whipped pup and sat down. She continued shooting 'her way', and to this day still out shoots her dad. Your story brought back some great memories.
Craig
Congrats Dave. Thinking back to when I was 15 (uggh, 14 years ago!) I'd count your daughter as a looker for sure. That thought makes me reflect furhter - I'm a hard core traditionalist. I have never harvested an animal with anything other my longbow save for a few ducks by way of scattergun, but I can honestly say having only married 6 weeks ago, if I have a daughter she is wearing nothing but turtlenecks and sweatpants until she is 35 and the first time she brings a boy thorugh my front door he will be greeted by the sight of me practicing reloads with my Mossberg!
Best of luck to you Dave, you may want to look into to that acerage and backhoe suggestion.
you did good buddy.the title of your post had me scared for a moment.i have seen alot of buddies daughters go down the wrong paths.it looks like you gave your daughter a good map.good for you,i think she will turn out fine.good luck this season to you and your daughter, steve
Dave it looks like you have done Well raising your Kids, those are some Neat Pictures your Dauther and Friend took,Good Luck to You and Your Dauther this Season, and many more,
Kurt
Great pics. She and her friend have a great eye for the camera, a talent that eludes many of us.
Its one thingto snap a picture, but those are pics that jump out at you when you look at them.
Fantastic pics, and congrats on a well raised young lady. You're a blessed man.
She looks like she means it. Thanks for passing it on Dave.
You are a lucky man. Tell her good luck with the bow this season
Congrats Dave!
I'm typing this while sitting in a cabin at bear camp with my 16 year old daughter. She is sleeping and I'm trying to catch up on some things. We were supposed to have been going home by now, but she has hunted really hard and we haven't seen a bear yet. She just doesn't want to give up. You'd think she'd be discouraged and want to get back to her friends, Facebook, etc., but she is determined to get a bear.
Like you said, daughters do the darndest things.
Again, you have every right to be proud and happy.
IB, tell your daughter she has the right idea (not giving up). I have a friend ("MP", on here) in WV who has two teen age daughters - both have got their bears - but he's still trying - LOL (and he's a good hunter, another friend, Lonnie, from there tells me - all great folks too.)
LOL to V I Archer - He doesn't know the half of it yet, though - I'd like to be around "then" to say, "Yeh, how'd that work out for ya, buddy?"
Because we raise them to be self-sustaining units, our precious daughters wind up with minds of their own, for sure, and tendencies to make their own bad/good choices - God bless them all.
Neytiri you have competition in the woods now!
Dave,
You best be cleaning the shotgun when the boys come a'callin!! It's good to see a young lady with some depth in the age of Paris Hilton.
Dave, you did good!
Dave,
My teenage son said he wished we lived in Missouri... Tell her a Georgia boy has a crush on her... Great pics, I agree with Tommyboy, nice to see that in a young lady nowadays !!. Here's a pic of my son a couple weeks back at the Bristol Nascar races I took him to.. I too am very proud of the young man he has become.. Caught him offguard with this pic.

You Should be really proud of Her1 My daughter who got me back to shooting Traditional. it is so hard today to raise kids between the media and lax parenting of our kids friends.
Hey guys, thanks again for all the positive comments. Though you may be giving Lindsey a "big head". She's a good kid and sure seems to have a creative knack for pictures.
Here are a couple more from earlier this summer.
Another one of those "self taken" types. I tried it once and it's harder than you'd think.
Here's one I really liked. Cool light.
This one looks really neat when you see it on full screen. She photoshopped it a bit for a blurred effect on the background I think.
And again with an odd angle and lighting that I'd not have thought of...
And a last one for now. More photoshop editing for a cool effect.
By the way, since many of you commented on the quality of the pictures, the camera is a little Cannon digital that I got at a yard sale for $5 so I could carry a cheap camera while hunting. Not sure of the model but it's only about 3 or 4 megapixels.
Talk about making due with what you've got eh?
Great stuff (again), Dave. I just this minute finished posting Lindsey's FD pics (along with some others) on my Page 22 - I'll add her name next time i post (soon).
Cool Bernie, Lindsey and I just checked it out.
**She liked it**!
I tried to get her to post here herself but maybe she's feelin' bashful or sumthin'.
We just got back from camping and the kids had a blast. My oldest boy Emmett was slaying bullfrogs with his slingshot. Got 6 of them today and Lindsey cleaned all the legs and fried them up before we left to come home. All the kids loved them and thought it was cool to "kill our own food". Even my wife liked them!
I'd have taken some more pictures but we had the house broken into this past Friday night and both our cameras and my wife's purse were stolen. Appears to have been some punk kid who came through our kitchen window, took the few things laying around handy and went out the front door. I wasn't home but my wife and kids were all asleep upstairs when it happened and never knew it. Wasn't until morning that we got a call about "suspicious credit card activity" that we figured out what had happened. Luckily, nobody got hurt and nothing else seems to have been taken. I guess it'll be time to upgrade cameras for Lindsey now...
A good photographer is a photographer who can take good pictures with any camera...
Your daughter IS a good photographer... ;)
Glad you both liked it, Dave - and so sorry about the break-in. That sort of thing always leaves one feeling so violated. Glad to hear it didn't turn out any worse though.
Dave- Thank you for sharing a part of your life that you could have just as easiy kept to yourself. Mike
That is pretty Cool Dave. :bigsmyl:
I have 3 girls and they all have taken an interest in sticks and strings so I think I am on to a good start.
The one at full draw looking down the arrow is a pretty awsome pic. My wife shoots and hunts with me. Its a really awsome experience to be able to hunt with your bestfriend and not just be draggin her along but her to be excied and wanting to go! Great feeling that someday when we have kids for all of us to be out in the outdoors. She finds someone who also hunt and shoots bow you got yourself a new hunting partner!
She is a beautiful girl and she has a great eye for photography. You are rightly proud, Dave.
Now that is COOL, Dave.
Congrats on a great young lady and Dad combo!
:campfire:
Thanks again guys. Since I'm in the showing off mode...
Here's two from just about two years ago when we had one of our "KC area bunny hunts". I believe there were about 13 or 15 tradgangers there. This hunt was between Christmas and New Years and the weather started out horrible! Pouring rain and even thunder and lightning which is rare that time of year while setting up before daylight for breakfast. Poor Lindsey got soaked and that down jacket was about useless so she bailed out and I called Mom to come pick her up in mid morning. Anyway, we got lucky and before we were done with breakfast the rain turned to freezing rain then stopped all together. Left a pretty coating of ice on everything which you might be able to see in the picture.
And here's another one for Bernie...
Reenacting her shot on a bunny the beagles ran by her. Didn't connect unfortunately. It ran across and opening and stopped by a cedar. She drew and was just about to release when it ran off again. Still fun!
Got it, I'll slip this one in by Lindsey's others, if it works out. Otherwise further down the page.
My wife says shes needs to go to photography school, she has a great eye and would be amazing at it. My wife also has a minor in photography. Be proud, I am just proud to have talent like that shown from Missouri. Go MO. TY
Was able to slip the earlier FD in, following her other two, Dave. Thanks again.
