I have been at this bowhunting and shooting longbows and now recurves for well over 40 years. When I was younger I was content with a Ben Pearson Ole Ben longbow and I shot that bow for ever it seems. Then I spent 21 years in the US Navy and my hunting and shooting took a back seat to my career due to being gone a bunch. After I retired in 93, I picked the bow back up and have never looked back. The only problem is I love bows and shooting to the point of obsession. Since 93 I have owned and shot more bows than I care to mention. I shoot recurves almost exclusively now in the 60# range, used to shoot 80# longbows exclusively. Anyway I have two custom bows in the rack, one on the way and a Shrew Samurai on order. Plus an Adcock and a sweet selfbow at my brother's house in Texas.
Just when I thought I was done, along comes Louis posting about his new Border. So what do I do, I go to Sid's site find a riser and limbs in stock that fit me and order it. Thanks alot Louis,LOL.
What is a man to do, so many bows, so little time.

You aren't alone Danny. I just made another trade for a Sure Shrew Gold Scout.

I just bought my last bow for a while, a mikuta td recurve, as a sophmore in highschool with no real jobs and saving for car insurance, I really have to scrape and save for my bows, I am addicted to new bows, sure, I love the ones I have, but I always want more, a man can never have enough bows, guns, and knives!!!!!!!!!
-

I have a Fox Royal Crown longbow that I bought 2 weeks ago. And I have a Border Harrier GL longbow on order. When I decided to sell my DAS Hunter T/D recurve that meant all of the ILF limb sets had to go. I was able to sell everything but the Border HexV-H limbs that hadn't been built, yet. When I asked Sid if I could cancel the order, he politely said, "No." When I asked him if I could change my order and put the money I had sent him for the limbs and put it towards a Black Harrier, he suggested the Harrier GL instead. The rest, as they say, is history.
Danny,
You are going to love your Border bow. Someday you will be purchasing a set of HexIV or HexV limbs, I predict. Enjoy!

LOL, Bubba that is a Cari-Bow Silver Fox, not a Crow Creek. You sold your Blackfeather, remember, Ol timers kick in?

Even counting the bows you have on order and the ones at Donald's I'm still only coming up with six bows. I don't see that as a problem at all! :saywhat:
Like any addiction, the addict must first hit rock bottom before recovery can begin. I'm afraid there could be a long way to go before you get there! ;)
-
LOL, Joe,
Yeah, but I lost count on the ones I have bought/sold/and traded over the years. Been a bunch of them. But yeah, six aint so many, least that is what I tell the missus.

Bow-a-holics meetings held every Thursday evening. Great place to meet guys to trade with, er I mean recover.
-
I thought that was called "Archers Anonymous" ????? but every AA meeting i went to had all these guys sitting around telling drinking stories instead of hunting stories....i was disapointed....i did quit drinking though.....
-
LOL Bro,
Yeah I guess I got a case of the old-timers. Fingers typed before the brain caught up. I forgot to mention I may consider a Blacktail again also. Gail is going to killll me.LOL

Hi, my name is Les and I am a bow-a holic, BW, Cascade, Kabekona River, Centaur, and lots of old classic recurves. Is there a cure for this addiction???
-
You know, I thought I had it whipped , then this innocent enough Zipper TD comes along and I'm right back at it. I said, yea, I can handle just one more...
Put me firmly right back in the saddle again. This has the potental to leave me homeless, living under a bridge somewhere, eating squirels. Panhandling for judo points...

Danny I feel your pain. Each new bow is better looking and shoots better than the last one. I hope it never ends. I guess it will end when they pry my cold dear fingers from the telephone. LOL.

David,
I am glad to see you back on. You had us worried there. I hope all is well.

Danny,
I once said, that if I could, I would like to own one of every custom bow made. That statement is no longer realistic. The number of bow makers and prices will forever prevent that form happening, at least for me any way. However, I would like to have some of them. I am a wood freak. I love the looks of an incredible piece of wood. Especially if it is in the composition of a bow, recurve or longbow. There are many really good craftsmen out there now who make not only great looking bows but bows that shoot incredibly well. I enjoy shooting different ones. One day I might shoot one of my Blacktails. The next day I may decide on one of the Borders or the Black Widow. Some days I may string up two, shoot one awhile and then switch to another for awhile. I come home from a hard days work grab a bow and head to the back yard. I usually find it very relaxing and a good way to unwind in the evening after work.
Danny, sorry I caused you to stumble. I am still looking for the right longbow. Like you I have bought and sold several bows looking for the one I really like. Once I have found it I put it on the rack to share time with my other favorites.

My wife has my last wish which is to place the last bow I buy in the box with me when they plant me.
:campfire:
-
Ah, Louis, ya did not make me stumble,LOl. Have been thinking of a Border for a while now, your pics just made up my mind.
Danny
-
If your feeling guilty, give one or two to me then you can tell your wife you sold them and can buy more.
-
UH, nope cannot see that happening Brian.LOL.

Hello, my name is Steve. I too am a bow-aholic. Due to the corporation's accountant(my sweet bride) I'm on the wagon for the umpteenth time. But this thread is starting to make feel me unbalanced and dizzey again!
Big 5, Wesley Special, Liberty English, Northern Mist Whisper, Crooked Stik, Saxon Kadiak, Bear SK, Chaparral Kaibab, Hoyt Gamemaster, BW Ironwood, Bear Montana, Marriah Chinook and untold amount of bows traded and sold.
I've had the sickness since I built that first sapling bow and arrows as a 9 year old. After building that bow I used it to defend my tree house from a bully who constantly tortured me. As he was trying to destroy my trusty fort I drew blood by shooting him squarely in the forehead. He then ran home squealing bloody murder for his mother. Judgement was passed swiftly on my crime of passion and my butt still feels warm as I recollect the punishment. The bully never bothered my again. Man! that feels good to get off my chest 45 years latter. Thanks Guys & Gals. It's been a sweet sickness indeed!
Lemee see, those recurves Brandon Stahl's crafting sure look nice...................................

Answer to your question "Will it ever end". Three answers. 1. NO 2. I hope not 3. Why would you want it to?
Enjoy
-
For Danny all you have to ask is "Are you still breathing?". If he is then it hasn't ended yet. (same for Don)
-
Danny, I can help you. You need a 12 step program. Step one: Send me all of your bows for safe keeping.
Step two: Send me all of the money that you would spend on new bows. Ha!
-
Hi Danny,
I'm right there with ya. Since I received the bow from you I've picked up two more. It must be an epidemic!
-
David, my friend, you can always make me laugh when I need a good one.
Terry, how is that Robertson treating you?
Danny

i started this craze/lust of traditional bows back in 98'. yeah i know i'm a late bloomer, but hey i'm here to stay. any way i have 3 custom bows and a pile of others from bears to martin's and even a few wings. never thought i would like a widow until i got to stroke one of their 50th anniversary models last week. it was osage with black glass and a red lam. absolutely beautiful and smooth pulling. haven't done it yet, but i can see a widow in my future. then again i still don't have a bunch of the others that keep teasing me as well. looks like none of us are alone at least. so many bows, so little time.
-
I'm getting worse as well-sold my silvertip and hatfield, but still have a habu t/d, a gamemaster, a thermal, an RER on order and making plans for my next already-my wife walks by me on the computer and asks why I'm looking at bows at the time: "you can only hunt with one at a time right". I'm thinking the next one will be a rose oak or a bob lee, yet another habu would be nice.....
-
Ok Bubba, what the heck is going on? don't make come waller ya.
Danny
-
I know he's considering selling at least one so he must have two in mind to replace it. :D
