David, Stringstretcher ground the feathers on your latest set of arrows. How do you like his work?
Killdeer :wavey:
-
Stringstretcher does a great job.
-
Did my glue hold or did the feathers all fall off?
Killdeer :o
-
I've got a bunch I need to get rid of or get ground.
-
Charlie (stringstretcher) is facing some tough challenges so would appreciate the biz if I may make that plug for one our own down on luck with physical challenges beyond his control
-
Bring em on guys and girls. Get em while I am feeling good.....lol. Would appreciate any and all,,,,just might be a little slower than some, faster than others, but nether the less, you will get good work back.
-
I just got mine from Charlie today. NICE FEATHERS! Thanks Charlie.
You get my vote.
Chuck

Thanks Two Tracks. Love to see them on some arrows when you get them made.
-
I've got 1 wing worth that I've yet to do anything with, I've got the chopper but no way to grind em yet & I don't think it's enough to send out.
-
That will give you about 9 primaries and 10-11 secondaries. Give me a heads up one evening and I will meet you somewhere and get them and grind them for you. You do know who I am don't you?
-
I do now...
Brain has not been at it's best lately.
-
lol....who's is
-
Do miss ya being around though.
-
Charlie did some up for me - nice work. Will be gettin some more as soon as I shoot one this fall!
-
do you only make shield cut feathers?
-
I can do 5" parabolic. Is there a specific shape you are looking for? I just might be able to help you out.
-
Thanks a lot for the feathers, Stringstretcher! I like the way you grind the quills, thin and uniform.
-
Gateway provides a seasonal service at $.25 per feather.

Drewsbow, you have a PM
-
I got a bunch from Stringstretcher a couple months ago, and they made some awesome arrows. You do great work Charlie.
-
Thanks everyone. Yeah I got behind on some orders with this medical issue, but I am pleased to say that I am grinding each day now. I got around 800 ground this past week, and have twice that many left to do to be caught up. I hope to have all feather orders and trades done within the next two weeks if not sooner. I want to really thank everyone for bearing with me on this, and let everyone know, all feathers are safe, and being processed. Once caught up, I will start grinding some of my stuff to sell.

i think gnbco makes a feather grinding jig, comes with a dvd and instructions all you need is a small drill press to make it happen. im lookin into this myself. ruddy
-
Broketooth. They do make a jig, but you will find that after a while of grinding, if you like thin bases and side, it will wear the metal plates out pretty quick. I had mine when I started and went through the metal twice within 6 months, so it did not do what I needed for lots of feathers, but will work fine just for small amounts. JMO.
-
stringstretcher- do you cut to shape, say 5 inch shield for example, or just grind? Where would I send them and what is approx cost?
Thanks
-
about how many feathers do you usually get out of 1 turkey wing?
-
On an average $bowhunter$ you will get 8-9 primaires and 10-12 secondaries. Usually only 3 or 4 would be considered #1 primaries of the 8-9.
-
dpg you have a PM!!!!!!!!!!
-
so to get a large amout of feathers that means im going to need more than 1 bird correct?
-
Well depends on how you look at it. You could fletch maybe 1/2 doz arrows from the feathers from one wing, but no two would be the same and probably not fly the same due to the stiffness/softness of the difference in feathers.
-
I just have to say I got some feathers from Charlie (stringstretcher) a couple months ago and they were,as Charlie is, first rate.
-
I've sent mine to Dinks Feather Shop
in WV for many years
He does them on halves for me
-
I do the same thing, will grind for half or for the opposite wing of your choice along with other options.
-
Question:
So if I send you feathers, you keep 1/2 of them for grinding and chopping the other half for me?
I probably have 70-80 full length LW feathers, which are all primary feathers. I usually don't keep the secondary feathers, as they are to soft.
Please PM me with cost and shipping instructions.
-
acolobowhunter, yes I can and will do that, and you have a PM....and by the way....DON'T THROW THOSE SECONDARIES AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
ok i know this is problay a stupid question but i dont exactly know so im gonna ask. how do you tell a primary feather from a secondary feather?
-
The first section of the wing, to the front of the bird are the primary. There are usually 8-10 in this section. The next section of the wing are the secondaries, they are softer, does not have a very high oil line, and some say are louder than the stiffer primaries. But the secondarys make awesome flu flu's and stumping arrows so save then all. The tail feathers also make great two fletch arrows. And yes, I can grind the tail feathers now as well if anyone is interested.

Mason and I just got our feathers back from Charlie, " stringstretcher "...... What quality work and service ! Got them back lightning fast too. Spring turkeys best look out ! The Canadian geese at all our parks will get chased around this June too during molting season.
We plan on doing some after deer season scouting and we normally do that on nasty drizzly wet days to stave off cabin fever. We will use the goose fletching on them wet days for our squirrel arrows. Love to scout on wet days to keep down noise, scent and allow close shots on ground feeding squirrels.
Thanks again Charlie you are awesome brother ! :clapper:

Thanks NoCams. Glad to be of service..
