Title: good days bad days
Post by: Caleb the bow breaker on August 30, 2010, 10:30:00 AM
Took a bit of a hiatus this summer and have started shooting again in preparation for the upcoming season.  Have been shooting great.  6-8 inch groups out to 30 yards with the occasional flyer.  Then yesterday, it all seemed to fall apart. LOL.  Should have just went  in the house but kept trying to force the issue.  Shot until my shoulder was shaking.  started changing my grip, release, anchor.  Anything to figure out what was going wrong.  finally shot a good group and decided to quit on a winner.

Its days like this that remind me that archery is all mental.  Confidence is key and trying to force a good groups very seldom works out.  Sometimes it is just better to chalk it up to a bad day and go do something else. LOL

Very well said.I read an article years ago by the late, great Paul Schaffer. He said when his shooting started to stray,90% of the time he attributed it to not having his bow arm rock solid, not his bow hand, his bow arm.He also stated he held his bow like you hold a baby bird,to tight you kill it,to loose it gets away. This has really worked for me,Give it a try.All the best.

Sometimes it is best to just walk away and take a break. Happens to all of us....Randy

I've had those days.  I put it up and come back later. Maybe even the next day.

Good shooting to you.

Anyone have a copy of that Paul Schafer Article mentioned above? I saw it posted on here one time and never copied it. It was a great article.

For me, when in shooting bad I walk away. Sometimes an hour is enough sometimes it isn't. It really is a mental thing. Always try to end on a good shot also.
