Post by: Terry Green on August 30, 2010, 07:31:00 AM
Some of you all from the south will really appreciate this with the blasting heat of the summer we've had.....This pic will almost make your toes cold just looking at it....

North Georgia Mountains......not far from the start Appalachian Trail.

Pretty! Thought the Appalachian Trail ended in Georgia and started in Maine.  :)  Bet you could find a brookie or smallmouth in there.

I guess it does if your from Maine. Georgians like to think it starts in their backyard. or maybe Terry just wants to walk it backwards.  :deadhorse:

Cool pic Terry.

That's a nice view Terry.

When I look at it I think the coolest part about it is just knowing that you had to be standing on the spot to take that picture.

Thanks for sharing!!

God bless,Mudd

That is so the reason I am moving to Georgia. If you throw a shopping cart and some garbage around and make the water glow it would look like Jersey...LOL

Absolutely beautiful. I like to think how many Indians and pioneers enjoyed that same view and felt the same cool relief as you did Terry!  Thanks for sharing.

I hear ya.....not sure what is the start and what is the end....but I have read two different books written from folks that have hiked the whole trail in one season.  And from what I gather, most start here in GA in the spring when it still froze over in Maine and try to to get to Mt Katahdin in October before it freezes again.  I'm sure its been walked both ways.

Anyway, I wanted to read the book The Orient Express which was about a legally blind man and his seeing eye dog Orient that made the journey. But, before I read that, I thought it best to read a book from someone who wasn't blind to get a better understanding of what all is involved in the through hike.  And I'm glad I read that one 1st as it made the Orient Express journey that much more miraculous.

Yeah....we were thinking trout no doubt!!!

Great photo........it looks like the area around Warwoman.  You need one leg shorter than the other to navigate that area!

Checked the NPS website after I wrote my comment, it says the trail starts in Georgia. Just seems like you would want to go north to south so you were going downhill.  :biglaugh:  But the temp thing makes sense.

I love the mountains..... to be honest I've only seen them a whoopin 3 times lol. This sounds odd but I think rocks are the prettiest things, We dont have rocks around here. sand yup, ocean check, skeeters big enuff rape a humminbird by the truckload, but no rocks.
