In your experience, which FF type string material has been the quietest and most durable you have ever used?
-Dave
astro flight
I think it depends on a lot of things including how many stands etc. That said, I had one bow that really got a lot faster and quieter with 8125. However, all my other bows got louder with 8125.
I do think D97 is pretty durable and quiet. It is awesome on my Toelke Wip anyway.
Bob.
TS1+ & D97 both worked well for me. I think that strand count and how the string was made plays a big part.........
I like Astro Flight also great stuff.
D97 for me at the moment until i try somthing else thats better.
As far as # of strands, whatever it takes to get proper nock fit on my X nocks with .025 62xs.
I have only built a few strings, none would win any beauty contest but all are functional. I am using Fast Flight Plus (14 strand with loops padded to 18) now and good grief they are loud. The FF+ also seems to "fuzz up" badly even after a good waxing.
I have shot D97 on a longbow I had and it was whisper quiet, and 8125 on a recurve or two and it was easily made hunting quiet with just wool yarn puffs. This FF+ just seems harsh to me, cat whiskers barely could make a difference, and not enough in my opinion to take to the woods.
I'm just needing as much input as I can get before I buy more string material. I can't afford to buy a half dozen different kinds to try and find a winner, I need to hear the voices of experience.
It depends on the bow,I have bows that are quieter with D97,some quieter with 450+ and some quieter with 8125.
FF+ is one of the harshest of the low-stretch materials ime. I like TS1+ best on my bows, the D97 strings I've had all had WAY too high of a wax content and constantly bled out and stretched. I know you can order the low wax stuff, but where...?
I have one UltraCam string I'm realling liking too.
I really like UltraCam. AstroFlite is softer feeling but wasn't as creep resistant for me when I tested it. Some folks are having real good results with Brownell's new stuff.

Lots of testing/experimenting has kept me on D-97 for years. More recently D-10 has been given a work out and thus far it's got an edge on D-97, but it's too early for me to bet the farm on it.
SBD did a LOT of testing with it and switched from D-97 to D-10. I don't see how you could go wrong with either.
I think alot does depend on the bow.
My bow is a 17" metal ILF riser with long carbon/wood limbs, 45@28 being drawn to 31.5, full length MFX 340's w/125 gr. tips.
There are lots of variables other than just the material. The bow, strand count, how the string is made, nock fit, bow tuning, silencer tuning, your release, etc. etc. etc.
That being said, I've had the best results with Dynaflight '97, with 8125 coming in as a close second.
Proper tuning will generally go a whole lot further than anything.
