well, I stopped by a garage sale this morning and found a ben bearson cougar 50# @28. 62". It came with a kwikee kwiver. I need to get a sting for it and see how it shoots. I paid $20 for it, did I do good?
P.S. there was also a browning recurve for the same price, in really good shape. should I go back tomorrow if they still have it? it was also $20.
I think it was a browning aztec.
get them all if not for anything else you never know when youll have an extra to help someone new to the sport
Sounds like a good buy to me.
My wife recently picked up a Bear Kodiak at a garage sale for $15. It was a Gainsville, probably mid-eighties, 55#@28".
I still hope someday she comes home with a $3, 59' Kodiak!
Go get the Browning now.......you did good!!
You did real good!! I never find anything like that..........Randy
Geez, I'll send you the $20 for that Browning---I know a guy who would love to have it, and he would be happy to drop the $20 plus shipping. That price is out of this world if the bow is shootable.
You did GREAT! Get that Browning!!!
Giff,
The Ben Pearson Cougar, 45# at 28" was the bow I started bowhunting with when I was 13 years old. I recall Mom bought it for Dad. The "set" came with 3-6 cedar arrows with "Deadhead" broadheads (2-blade, very wide with cut-outs). Dad only shot it one time-straight up off our porch in a sub-division with houses every quarter of an acre (yikes!). I hunted chipmunks with that bow. Then, I killed the first live deer I ever saw when I was 16 years old in 1969 with it. I recall the set cost $20.
Sounds like you did great!
If I ever find a Cougar for sell I'll buy it for my mantle. I was a right-handed shooter in those days (for 28 years) and now I'm a leftie.
I did end up going back for the browning, it is a spartan, not an aztec, red glass on the back, white on the belly. It is 42# @28. it will be my wabbit bow :goldtooth:
Schweet! Don't you think for a minute that she won't kill bigger things. Those Brownings are super nice---I love them as much or more than the Bear bows of the same vintage.
I find most of my old archery gear at a local flea market, but I did find a Pearson Hunter II at a yard sale once for 3 bucks.
Congrats
You just hit treasure my friend.
Enjoy

Treasure isn't the word for what he found, that is an AWESOME find & great prices...
uhhhhg! Lucky....
I go to a yard sale this am and here is this book on a table by itself. I look at it and it says silver anniversary 1 of 1000 on the cover. It has this horse and rider embossed on it and says The Winchester Book across the top. Dark blue leather. I open it up and there is the authors name written in ink and I go threogh some pages and it has every model of Winchester Rifle and Shotgun ever built in it. Really cool book. So I ask how much. 25.00 / I open my wallet and guess what I have? 25.00
Here is what I didn't realize. This is the definitive book on Winchesters. The man that signed it just died and the books took like a 400 percent jump in price if they are signed. The 1 of 1000 is the actual first one of the 1000 Silver Anniversary Edition. The first one that was printed and sold. Just the signed books are selling for 400. with only one of this years left.
How do you think I did?
Oh and great buys on the bows . I have had them both , The couger and the Browning and they are good bows and great price. God Bless you , Steve
