Having just returned from this years hunting trip to the remote Cape York region in Northern Queensland Australia with Mick Baker of Trophy Bowhunts Australia and once again a fantastic time was had by all and all hunters took quality boars.
Arriving at what was to be our camp for the next week we unpacked our gear, set up our beds, bows and headed out for a late afternoon hunt. We managed a few stalks on some boars and spotted a small mob of about 8 pigs heading into the swamp we were hunting but had no luck on these and it was a good start for what was to be a great week.
Over the next couple of days numerous pigs were taken by the compound shooting lads and as the only trad shooter ( Excluding Mick) I was yet to get an opportunity on a quality Boar although stalking in on some sows and small boars.
With all the boiling of pigs jaws going on around camp the local Goanna started visiting camp daily and it would come up and lick you're your feet looking for some meat, this Goanna is about a meter or so long.

We spent some time down at the fishing hole and not being much of a fisherman I had a great day catching some Barramundi

This one along with 3 others came back to camp where Mick cooked up some fish and chips for diner for everyone and was some of the finest fish you will ever put in you mouth.
I also caught some Saratoga and cat fish which were all released back into the water.

This is a Saratoga I am told it is not the best eating but fun to catch.
Later in the afternoon I walked a creek which was holding pockets of water here and there and ended up on another large lagoon, sitting on the far edge of the lagoon we spotted a nice Boar.
After making my stalk I managed to take a shot and secure my first boar of the trip.

Ben
That's a good looking boar :clapper:
The next few days were spent looking for Scrub bulls and Boars and having missed a couple of chances at pigs we spotted a young bull which we felt was a good chance for a stalk.
Scrub Bulls can be dangerous so Mick brought the rifle along just in case I ran into trouble, we stalked in and a shot taken with the bull running a half circle and stopping to look and see what stung him.
He walked into the long grass and lay down.

This is my first Scrub Bull so I was pretty pleased.
Great adventure! Congrats on a fine boar and nice scruby. I had the pleasure of spending couple of weeks in Cape York with Mic last year it was a blast.
Your are guaranteed a great time that's for sure,a lot of laughs and some fine tucker (food).
I have wanted to try getting a scrub bull for some time now. Congratulations!! That is awsome.
Mate, some classic critters there, well done.
Kicking myself I could not make it...
Wow
Looks like you had a great time.
Thanks for sharing and congrats with the pig and bull.
Margly
Looks like an awesome trip from the pics. Tricia and I are headed over there in July and August of next year.
Man I have to get to Australia; its just a fantastic looking country to hunt. All kinds of crazy critters.
Well done, you must of had a great time
PS That big lizard in the first pic..he'd a been on the BBQ that night :archer:
Those are some great pictures...thanks for sharing! Congratulations on several fine trophies.
:bigsmyl:  :campfire:
Is the game you take over there edible? I think I may have read somewhere, that much of it is full of parasites and therefore not used for human consumption... Did you find this to be the case?
Great post BTW, and your pictures were great.. A bit of info on your hunting set-up would be great.
Gene :coffee:
Sweet hunt, Thanks for sharing.......
congrats... Mick runs a great place
What's a hunt like that cost? Looks like a great time....except for the 3 foot lizard coming into camp. I couldn't tolerate that at all.
Did you see any snakes?
That reminds me....damn near everything that crawls on that place can kill you deader than a doornail.
Nalajr
Congrats. From what I hear any scrub with a bow is a great trophy. That is one heck of a boar too.
Ragnarok Forge are you going with Mick?
Dave Bowers give mick an email you might be surprised at the costs.
L.E.Carroll, we do not eat the pigs as they will often feed on rotting flesh and may contain some nasties.
My bow is a widow psr V 58# @ 28", I'm shooting gt traditionals with 100 grain brass insert and an additional 40grns screwed into the back of the insert. I shot the pigs with a 125 grn Woodie supreme and the scrub bull used a 190grn supreme.
Nala I saw 2 tree snakes and some of the lads saw taipans their real nasty you take a hit from one of those and you don't come home.
Great stuff, Paul! Well-done! Very happy for you.
Well done! Looks like a great time!
Congrats on the successful hunt. Did you see any crocs while you were fishing? John
AKM Plenty of crocks about, one of the lads took some great photos I will get them and post up for you.
The following morning and our last day was spent looking for scrub bulls for a couple of the compound shooters and while driving about Mick suddenly stopes the car opens the door and while standing on the sill for height says there's a nice Boar in that swamp, the compound boys and Mick jump out and begin to stalk the Boar.
I'm still sitting in the back of the 4x4 watching the stalk as the Boar slowly walks around the swamp with the hunters in toe, thinking he might sneak out the side and give them the slip I grabbed my bow and headed off at about 90 degrees to the others when I noticed them looking about I cast my eye into the thicker scrub and spotted the Boar walking towards where I was heading.
Getting the others attention I then started stalking in after him getting to about 15m I could only see his snout and front leg through the paperbark swamp trees as he was scratching about I drew and released and secured another fine Cape York Boar.

We all had another great trip with Mick and it was great to met some new friends and catch up with some old ones.
For those thinking of making a trip to the Cape give Mick at Trophy Bowhunts Australia call.
Awesome mate. Looks like a great time was had.

Mate most of the boars we saw were quite large some looked like 44 gallon drums with legs, all the hunting was along creeks and swamps which were drying up.

Thanks for posting. I take it that those are fresh water crocks? Do fresh water crocs have the man eating reputation that salties do? John
Great job Piggy, top place Cape York and obviously a great hunt mate.
P.S Freshies are fish eaters and pretty harmless for those who do not know but watch out for the salties that also live with the Freshies!!!!!
Sneaky One
Spot on sneaky I keep my eyes out when near water you never know where the salties will turn up.
