Today I took out the following broadheads, 3 each, set up with alum threaded inserts for carbons. I was shooting a Quinn STalion, #50@28, 60"AMO, bear weatherest, D-97 flemish 14 strand string I made, w wool puffs.
150 WW,
Bear 145 SS razorhead
145 Ace std.,
Zwickey Eskimo 165,
Ace std 175
Ace std 200
I was shooting GT 35/55, cut to my length w/4 inch parabolic feather. I shot all these different weights, to the same point of impact out to about 30 yards, ran out of light. Might have been 2 inches difference overall in impact high or low, when I was shooting the same, could call a low shot due to dropping my arm. I will probably be hunting with the Ace 175 or 200, super quiet, fly like darts. I have also shot some carbons that weigh up to 75 grains difference, shoot instinctive, still close enough to hunt with. Is it just me, or rest of you have same results if you have good form, good release, no wind much with a properly tuned setup.
I can shoot from 125 ro 220 grain BH's out to 20 yards with the same impact point. But I get a ton more penetration with the heavy heads.
Yep. Most bows will shoot a wide range of arrow weights/spines if we do our part.
carbon shafts are way more sensitive to length than point weight. Not surprised they all shoot about the same...

Yep found the exact same thing. Can go over a large range in point weight with out much difference but cut 1/8" off and its a different story.
I also can shoot 150 to 250 grain heads off the same arrows off any bow I own. Yep, you nailed it also....form, tune, release(dynamic more so than static) all contribute greatly. Don't see a real point of impact difference out to 25 yards, but do beyond that with the 100 grain heavier heads
I've added 100 grans to the head making for a heavier shaft and gotten more penetration, but I've also added 100 grains of aquarium tubing to the same arrow and gotten more penetration.....so yes, both the heavier arrows penetrate more at this point, but the one with the 100 grains in the head do not out penetrate the ones with the 100 grains in the shaft enough for me to see any real difference. The addition of the 100 grains either way made the real difference.
Adding 100 grains period is more of an improvement in penetration that just shifting that 100 grains forward. AND..when adding, put that extra weight where ARROW FLIGHT is best also. Don't want to cancel out the benefit of more weight with knuckle balling arrows.
Like I said....from what I have found the real gain is in the 100 grains added...not so much as where its at.....and great arrow flight....

Yep, 28 1/2" GT 55/75's with 100 grain brass inserts work from 125 to 225 for me. Big difference past 30 yards though.
