Anyone in the Hudson Valley area near West Point do any bowfishing? Im dying to try my hand at this, and Im looking for someone to show me the ropes.
Casey, I do not have a great set up but if you come up my way we can drive the boat around and hope to get lucky.
There is the old Erie Canal near me I guess has a lot of little ones.
My focus right now is deer hunting but I can make time once more for fishing if you want. I just am not sure how to target them this time of year.
Charlie,
Thanks for the invite. PM on the way.
z...pm sent
I'm in Columbia County near Stuyvesant Falls and will be happy to take you out. Tough time of year, but I bet we'd get some shooting.
Charlie is a good bowfisherman, but his wife Becca is better. You'd have a great time with Charlie.
If you cant tell Terry is good at Bs'ing. He should have said Becka is way way better. :D
The Bs'ing makes for a great time in the boat and he knows how to find the fish.
Thanks to all for the invites. I look forward to meeting everyone. Sean, Carlie, Terry.
I found a little wheely bow shop near by that has a surprisingly nice selection of trad equipment. Ill be heading back soon to pick up a few fishing arrows. Should I bother with a reel? I saw a ingenious rig involving a water bottle and chair leg rubber cap somewhere a while back. Looked simple and cheap to assemble.
Casey
Like I said, I have an old Bohning spool type reel if you want it.
Zmonster, all you will need to do is show up. I have all the gear you need to shoot and have fun.
I think the rig you are talking about was pioneered by Rob Davis for shooting stingrays. The bottle detaches so you can chase the ray. For regular bowfishing the idea is to shoot and retrieve fairly quickly. In Charlie's case, you shoot, retrieve, shoot, retrieve, shoot, retrieve, etc.. and once in a while he shoots, brings in fish and then shoots again! :)
 Terry, Do as I say not as I do
Casey You can use my set up if you want!
Awsome guys. I just gotta make time now. You all are killing me
Terry, I may be free this Saturday. Let me know if it works for you. I'll more than likley borrow equipment till I figure out if it for me or not.
Trust Me, it will be for You!! Bowfishing is a blast.
Zmonster, I'm sorry but I'm taking my daughter to Maine on a bear hunt and will be out of town on Sat. Hopefully, we'll be home before the following Sat. and that will work.
Terry,
No prob. Enjoy the hunt and good luck.
Casey
