Title: Had my first "blow up"
Post by: kbetts on August 24, 2010, 10:00:00 AM
About a week ago, I traded a Widow PSA for a bow I had never heard of.  After a little research, the trade went through and I received a Sapphire Hawk with two sets of limbs.  One set is Juniper and absolutely beautiful.  The other set was double carbon.  Last Friday I bolted on the double carbons to use as my hunting limbs due to the black color.  I was shooting excellent, moving out to the 30+ yard range with some 525 grain Gold Tips when BAM, the top limb explodes at full draw.  I quickly picked up another bow to ease my troubled mind.  Shooo, no perminent mental damage.
Fast foward to yesterday when I called the bower to report what happened.  I am not the first owner of this wonderful work of art and the bower explained that he is shutting down the shop.  Without hesitation, he offered to build me another "hunting" set of limbs at no cost to me but the shipping.  Hats off to a wonderful example of standing behind your work.  I did not call to complain, just to make the gentleman aware of what happened.  This bow will never leave the stable.  I'll post a pic of the bow later with the juniper set.  I can't stop looking at it.

Nice to know he's standing behind his work despite all the changes of hands...wish everyone had that kind of integrity.

Kudos to the bowyer...

Kyle,

If the bow was carbon on the back and belly of the old limbs, you might ask him to put carbon on the back and black glass on the belly of the new limbs.  Carbon doesn't handle the stresses from being placed on the belly side of the limbs very well.

I had a set of carbon back and belly limbs blow up on me and after I shipped it to the bowyer he told me he would build a new set for me.  Then he called me back and said he would be building the new set with black glass on the belly.  He had a set of double carbon limbs, that he built, blow up on him the previous night while at full draw.  He quit building bows with the double carbon on the limbs.

Ernie at Sapphire is a class act. He made my kid a bow a few years back. Good on him for making it more than right and congrats on the 'Hawk. Glad you're alright too  :)

Yes,Ernie said he stopped making the double carbon for the reasons above.  I let him know I'd be perfectly happy with plain black glass.  The bow is a dream to shoot and I couldn't tell the difference in the limbs anyway.

Good all around.  Glad you weren't hurt and kudos to the Bowyer for being a real stand up guy.  Life is good for ya.

God bless.
