Title: Gorilla Glue
Post by: BUCKY on August 22, 2010, 12:34:00 PM
I see they have a new super glue which is for impact use. It has rubber particles in it. I wonder if this would be good for inserts. Has anyone tried this?

Bucky,
I've been using it & have had very good results.

Only problem will be if you want to remove the inserts.  Garilla glue is pretty permanant.

I would suggest hot melt like Bohning.

Cyanoacrilates/"superglues" can come out OK with a bit of heat. But there's potential risk of damage to carbon arrows.

On carbons I run glue sticks, white softer stuff that doesn't set up super rigid. They used to market it as carbon insert glue way back, but haven't found any by that trade name for ages.

Switched to some general kind of white looking glue sticks (requires heat) that don't set up super hard, has worked well for the last decade.

I fletched up some arrows a few weeks ago, and figured I would try gorilla glue on the tip and rear of the fletching on 6 of the 12 I made.  The other 6 I used duco.  I now have 6 awesome looking shafts, and then tere are the 6 I used gorilla on.  The glue must have reacted to my clear finish, and it all turned white.  It rubbed off for the most part, but I still know it's there so I will not be using it in that application again.

I know someone who used that glue for the ultimate test of arrow tuff-ness...The Muzzy Stump Shoot...he had major insert issues!

I have been using it for a couple of years with great results. Never lost a insert and I have no problems with removing inserts from carbon shafts.  It's all in the prep work........

Me too. Been using it for over a year now on the knock points (I use hot glue for the tips). Not a single one has come loose, but a simple twist with a pair of pliers and the ends come right out of my AD Trads right away.
