Title: a small cookout/stumping camp building tommorw
Post by: adkmountainken on August 21, 2010, 07:05:00 AM
if any one is local and interested a few of us are heading up on the mountain that i hunt to make a small camping area, have a little cook out (frog legs/venison!!!) and do a little stump shooting. this is all public land if anyone wants to see a new area, all are welcome. looking at a 8am meet time.

Have fun my mountain man buddy! This city boy is stuck down here building his wife her dream house. Hope to spend some time in the "dacks" with you this year.

i'll take some pic's. looking like rain but that will not scare this bunch! the area we picked is pretty sheltered from rain on the top of a little knoll by a creek, a most beautifull place!

Man I could use an outing like that. Just got in from stumping and loving it. I have a b-day party for my oldest son (17) tomorrow. Please keep me in mind for the future. Even the rain sounds good!

Anyone else? If not I may have to leave a few frog legs at home! Not sure the three of us can handle all of em plus the venison.

Any one upset they missed today?  Not me!!! Although there wasn't much "cook out", we managed to get camp roughed out.  One more visit and it will be ready for hunting season season!

Sean, Come out next weekend just to hang out. It's a bit of a drive for you but you're always welcome up!  Hope that thumb is healing right this time.  You have to tell us about your bear hunt too.

Sorry Gary, No Pics!  It was just down pouring the entire morning and we didn't want the camera to get wet.  maybe next week.

Yes, gotta see some pics next week. Sounds like it will be a fun time. Camping and hunting in the Adirondacks. I took advantage of the scent eliminator rain and hung a treestand today.

Yo know Greg we were having that same conversation on the mountain wondering if hanging tree stand s in the rain would help.

If camp is any nicer, I'll be moving in

Today was a perfect rain for hanging stands. A good steady rain but not a downpour. I try to be more careful, because the rain makes my sticks a little slicker and the chains on my stands slip a little on smoother trees like the basswood tree i set my stand in today. Seat of the Pants and a lifeline make the difference.

Are you guys backpacking into this camp or can you haul bigger items in like cots and chairs and stuff like that?

Greg, It's an uphill hike! not sure how far but can feel like a couple miles at times.  I would guess it's about 1-1 1/2 miles in but you can pack things in, heck we even carried 2 cast iron pans in today.

The lean-to will probably only sleep 3-5 comfortably but not with cots. Plenty of room for tents though.

If people work together we can get the handy items up there, IE. a lantern, stove and food.  It really isn't that bad, you could make 2 trips pretty easy. There's stump shooting along the way so you can take your time and enjoy the hike.

Best part is, you will not be bothered buy anyone, at most you may hear some 4 wheelers but I think your chances may be better seeing bear!

yup you could pack in the kitchen sink if ya wanted to. i however would like to keep it real simple and primative. about the only deluxe thing i think we could really use would be a small Coleman stove or something to that effect. you will not see ANYONE up there during bow season except whi is hunting in our group.

Hey Charlie, I would in a heart beat. the rides not too bad. I can get to the northway in a little over an hour.  I'm 2 from exit 12!!! BUT  I'm heading to Maine for a bear hunt either Saturday night or early Sunday morning.  Cast comes off, I'm hoping that I'll be able to shoot.  If not, I got to use my flintlock.

Good Luck Sean, I knew you had taht bear hunt coming up:wavey:   :archer:

You acctually never get on the Northway.  When you are ready give me a shout and I can give you directions or you can meet me at my house and we can ride together. It is Closer to Johnstown than Lake George.

We will be hunting as soon as small game starts and it will be there through the end of the year.

Remember to take pics of teh bear ghunt and share stories.  If you use teh smoke pole e-mail it to me or show me where else you might post it.
