Last Friday night, along with friends Pat and Mike, I piled into Pat's F-150 and heading for the Casper, Wyoming area to hunt antelope with Cole Creek Outfitters. We made it back home yesterday morning with coolers full of the tasty antelope meat and some great memories.
This was my first out-of-state hunt and first outfitted hunt. I have to tell ya a guy could really get used to seeing P&Y antelope bucks all over an 88,000 acre ranch with only 3 guys hunting. Our outfitter Kelly Glause did a great job of having nice and roomy blinds over some VERY active waterholes.
Pat and Mike had there bucks early on the first day. Took me until about 1:00 after I passed up a nice buck early. I made a poor shot that required quite a tracking job. Pat, Mike, and Kelly helped me out big-time to keep the buck moving and eventually lead me to a follow up shot to atone for my mistake. Couldn't have recovered the buck with out them.

I missed a doe at a distance too close to mention the next day. :knothead: The third day I made a good shot on a doe.

I was using a 58" Black Widow PSAX 55@27" that I traded TradGanger "Masham Man" out of this winter. CX250s and 150gr Woodsmans.
Here's a pic of one of the very nice blinds on the ranch. These blinds were at least 7' tall and probably the big in diameter. The shooting holes allowed us to shoot standing up. Good thing I spent all summer shooting from a chair in my pop-up blind! :knothead:

Looks pretty good. Hunting in shorts and tee shirt, I can only dream about that. Good job on the goats.
Nice going Mick! Talked with Mike and he had filled me in on some of the hunting stories. Sounds like you guys had a great trip.
Top job!
Very nice goats!!!
GREAT! Super buck and awesome doe. That black face tells the tale of an old buck :clapper:
I only hope I am as lucky as you. Me and a buddy are heading out for a Sept. 6-10 hunt on the Spearhead Ranch near Douglas Wyoming. Congratulations on two fine antelope!
I forgot to ask. How long were your shots?
Question Mike... did you have to put in for a draw or are the tags over the counter?
That's quite a hunt.Beautuful antelope too.Congratulations.
Nice job and nice buck Mick! Antelope is my favorite eating of all the game I hunt if taken care of as soon as you retrieve them. Good steaks!
Antelope are beautiful..! Congrats...
My shots were under 20 yards. Mike's were under 20 yards as well. Pat shot both of his at 11 yards. There were blinds that had some shorter and longer shots.
Tags were leftover for area 25.
I mixed some burger up with some breakfast sausage spices I've used on whitetail for awhile. I have to say the antelope sausage was quite a bit better than whitetail.
Glad you had a good time. Never seen antone put lipstick on a goat though. :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the info!
Congrats on a great buck.
Congrats. on a great buck.
Nice antelope...looks like you guys had a blast. That is what trad. archery hunting is all about. :clapper:

Antelope is better than about 95% of everything one could put in their mouth.
now you made me hungry :D
Congrats on the antelope's and thanks for sharing
Good hero pick on the buck
Tracy
Congratulations!!!!
Awesome!!!
I want so badly to get after a speed goat someday.
God bless,Mudd
Yo Mick...thought I would see you today. I need to know more about how you make sausage with just burger. You should bring some samples out to the Joe Vincent Memorial Shoot tomorrow :goldtooth:
Congrats again on the goat and thanks for the info!
Steve,
Still makin' up with mamma for the long time away. :goldtooth: I'll be down tomorrow most of the day.
For the sausage, I just have some spices that I mix with the meat and a little water. I'll try and bring some down tomorrow.
Heck, I had an antelope burger tonight with just a little season salt and Montreal steak and it was pretty darn good.
I've got 40# or so of burger, a sausage stuffer, and a smoker. I need to clear some space for whitetails so there may be quite a bit of experimentin' going on. :)
Congrats on a couple of beautiful goats!!!
Good Deal, I'm packing now for my hunt in a couple of weeks.
Mike
WOW. Great job
That is one AWESOME buck! I'm planning an archery antelope hunt in September, that photo is gonna keep me 'day dreaming'!
Nice animal, congrats.
Mick, the breakfast sausage you brought out today made from your burger was excellent! That is going to save me a ton of cash at the processor
Congratulations on some awesome animals!
Congratulations Mike!
Nice one!
Kelly is a prince of a man.
I've hunted with him twice and I'd recommend Cole Creek to anyone for the lopes.
Congradulations.Cool blinds.
Interesting simple blind. Was that aluminum tank a little noisy if you shifted around, or did they have it carpeted in some way?
Congratulations on the goats, ah the smell of sage comes to mind! good job. gib
Congratulations Mick! I'm glad you are enjoying the Widow. I still love the Shrew, but still want another Widow. :( I think I'll order a Bocote PCH next year. Are you getting your buck mounted? He's a nice one. Take care
:saywhat:

Yep. He's at the taxidermist already.

There was so much room that you really didn't need to get near the sides of the blind.
From both Antelope how many pounds of boned meat total...?
I leave Saturday to go chase goats in SD,,, again. LOL
What sized cooler did you use to get the meat home?

Don't know how much meat. 30-40# each I'd guess. I had a 100 quart and a 55 quart coolers. Caping out the head would have saved a lot of room but I didn't and was barely able to wedge it into the big cooler. Had room to put in 4 small bags of ice. Very little melting even in the back of the pickup(with topper) and 100 degree weather for 8 hours or so. It was about a 22 hour drive total.
Nice lope >>>>
My first one required some tracking also...meat was great !

Congrats....brings back memories...
