Ty, I sell other equipment, save a little, I don't have any bad habits that cost a bunch of money. Buying bows is a good habit.

Find a way to make some side money, and never tell her where it is, or how much is in it.  Beter off, you never even mention it to her.  If she needs something but complains she can't afford it, pull a little out of your stash, and tell her you have been saving for a moment just like this.  This way, she's happy, you only gave up a little of what you have, and did I mention SHE'S HAPPY.  LOL

Do carpentry jobs/handyman services on the side. (My real job is a "meteorologist"), but I'm quite gifted at carpentry and fixing things.

My two children wonder the same thing.  When they were growing up we lived pretty much check to check. There's no way I could buy the bows I bow these days just a few years ago. I've retired after 30 years from one job and have another one that I dearly love now. The kids are out of college and on their own and archery is my only hobby that I spend money on.

This question made me think of a story I read one time...

A poor, thin, peasant lad was asked by an aristocrat what he did for food.  He replied, "Good Sir, on the even numbered days of the week, I sharpen the knives, polish the silver, and sweep the floors for Master Cleff, the owner of this fine inn.  He then allows me to take of the scraps left over from the feast, in return."

The nobleman first nodded his head sagaciously, then a confused look crossed his face.  "But lad," he asked, "what do you do on the odd numbered days?"

The poor peasant replied, "My lord, I do as the great warrior Kieron did on the eve of his greatest battle."

"And that is...?" asked the aristocrat.

The young peasant grinned self consciously and replied, "I but await the morrow, my lord."

But what I need to do is start doing ornamental blacksmithing again, sell on fleabay and flea markets. Anyway good ideas I was just wondering. God Bless Ty

Mine all started with a bow that I bought off of a local fella. It was to much weight for me at 55# @ 28". I sold it and bought another one. I have owned several bows since this journey began almost three years ago. I have purchased used bows and also had bows built for me. If I find that I can't shoot them consistantly then I either sell them to fund another or trade them for another bow.

Right now.........I don't have any expendable bows and there is one more bow that I want this year. I'm gonna have to purchase it from a gentleman that I shot with down at ATAR this year. A real nice 1960 Kodiak Special 64" and is 45# @ 28".

My name will come up on Norm Johnsons list again sometime early next summer, so I have some time to pay on that one before he even builds it for me.

There is one other bow that I want to get my hands on, a Border Black Douglas........but most likely not this year.

Although I have shot Trad. since about 1957, I have only recently gotten back into it. I purchased a very nice Bear Kodiak Mag. about two years ago. This year I decided to get a custom R/D. I was lucky enough to get a real nice bow off the blanket sales at ETAR.

I am now trying to master this bow, that is keeping me busy enough to not look at any other bows.

The annual bow bill is small compared to the rest of the annual hunting expenses.

I dont have a problem ! I always had this many arrows . I like older bows so they all look alike to her.Im not realy intrestid in getting more and more bows honest.  Overtime and the yearly bonus. You also do not need to sell your house to get a bow good used ones work great also.

I have not found a way to create fund for buying bows.  All I did so far was through saving.  Make my own arrows and quivers.  Buy used bows and save for a true custom order.

Side jobs, and living on a budget (check out dave ramsey!).
Giving up other hobbies that I also enjoy, like bird hunting, kayaking, duck hunting, builing wooden canoe's, etc.

Grapes idea is spot-on!  I do the same thing and it works oh so well.

Save pocket change.  Adds up quick too.  Usually have enough in a year to buy a bow and go on a short hunting trip.

Mileage Expense. I travel for work. I get .50 a mile. If I want something; I travel to Erie, PA. As I leave in the South East corner of Pennsylvania the trip will net about $340 in mileage expense. If I take the bike, it will be more. Good money. (:
I currently have a Leon Stewart Slammer T/D on order. My plan is to make the Erie trip three times to pay for the bow.
The problem I have is too many hobbies! Requires lots of trips.

I sold off a huge collection of guns that i owned. I only own 3 guns now, a 30-30 that was my first rifle bought when i was 12, in 42 now.
A 30-06 that my dad bought me when i was 16 and a Sig Saur 7 mag i bought when i was 18.

I sent it off last summer and had a custom made McMillian stock put on it.

I order from bowyers who are 12+ months out on delivery.  I can send a relativley small downpayment (bowyers vary - usually $100-150)and then pay the rest off over time until my name comes up. I have a hard time keeping a larger chuck of money just laying around in case I find a bow I like.

I sell old equipment and anything else lying around not being used (recently sold an older climber stand, a shotgun, and my compound to help fund my first custom longbow), I work a couple side jobs for some local farmers, and put a few bucks per paycheck in a "hunting/archery jar". Otherwise, I try to make due with what equipment I have (modest as it may be), and only buy new what I absolutely HAVE TO. My wife's pretty good about "lettin me" get stuff when I need it, but she also knows that I only spend what I have to. Aside from all this, I stockpile any gift cards given to me. Its amazing what a little bit of planning/budgeting can do, even if incoming cash is low          :archer2:

I deprived my wife and family of all earthly pleasures and comforts to satisfy my cravings.

Actually I'm retired and work in the winter and spring two days/week and sell off guns from a large collection I have.

I made the "mistake" of getting my wife into trad, so we have fun together doing it. I was just wondering. But I did get some ideas thanks everyone, My wife is reading over my shoulder and said that she would not get another job to fund me. To bad, good luck with that Smoke1953. God Bless all, Ty
