This season will be my first time hunting trad since putting down the wheels. Anybody else out there making the switch this season??? :archer:
Been at it awhile, you made a good choice of bow and weight. Get close and let em have it! :campfire:
This will be my 3rd season. Still fairly new to it myself. I don't think I will ever pick up a wheelie bow again.
I'm also a wheelie turned trad guy. My first new longbow is on order and I obviously won't be hunting with it this year, (or maybe even next yr. for that matter), but I can't wait to begin practicing once it arrives!
Second season back to trad after a 20 year hiatus. I am never looking back. Way to much fun with the stick and string.
This will be my first season also. I'm really looking forward to it.
I have hunted with a compound for 13 years; going to attempt to take a deer with a longbow this year. We have an urban archery season that starts 1st week of sSeptember, its a doe only season. Feel like this will be a good time to break the ice and get a longbow kill under my belt. I'm a little anxious about being on stand and a 150incher givin me a 30 yard shot. I'm shooting good in the yard but hard letting go of the confidence I have in my compound. If I could get a deer down in this early season it sure would help with that.
I used a Bear fiberglass bow as a kid. Used a Bear compound as a young adult. Never took anything with either bow. This will be my first year using a bow I made. Can't wait. I'll still gun hunt but plan to trad hunt as much as possible.

I dabbled in 2001. I tried to come back in 2009 but hurt my shoulder and couldn't shoot until August -- stayed with the compound. I'm going to hunt 100% with a recurve in my home state this season and with a compound in Indiana. However, after shooting a new bow this evening I may take it to Indiana also! I haven't killed a deer with a recurve since the year before I started with compounds -- 1974.
Did I say I was excited! You bet I am. I've been shooting almost every day since December 2009 with my recurve -- most days 2-3 times! I've been shooting 4-5 bows and thought I had it narrowed down to a Black Widow PSAIII until this evening. Now I think I'll be hunting with quite a different recurve than all my customs. If I had this bow 30 days ago I'd be confident at 30 yards instead of my current range of 20.
Last fall was my first year shooting trad and i was 2 for 4. Shot a nice 8 pointer and a doe.
Missed a really nice buck the very first evening i hunted with my recurve, shot 5 feet over his back at 15yds, don't forget to pick a spot!!!!
This will be my first year hunting with any bow, and it will be my 55lb bear Montana. I am just hoping for a nice doe. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!
