If you could only have one,one piece recurve for the rest of time which one would it be and why? Have you compared it with others? Thanks I want a one piece recurve in a bad way and looking for input.
For Me I would say a 1965 Bear. The reason why, Well it's the Year I was born
I am looking at the Bear magnum as a option and have looked at 1964 Bear bows the year I was born.
One piece curve.....Rose Oak King Panther by Brandon Stahl for sure. You will not find a "prettier" bow and they shoot like a million dollars! You DO NOT see his one piece recurves come up for sale very often.
Check out my Talons on the webpage. I make them in a 56 in onepiece now. God Bless you in your search. Steve
This 64 inch blacktail I am shooting now is gonna be hard to top IMO.
I had an older Blacktail about 10 years ago.It was a good bow.But these newer versions are really beautiful bows and shoot beautifully as well for me.No comparison to my old one.
RER Arroyo is a great 1 piece bow.
I really like the Widow PAs alot in a one piece.Excellant design, easy shooting and a looker.Awesome riser!
Whippenstick bows Firestorm and Hellfire are superb one piece recurves.
In a 50s style I like the GN Ghosts,Toelke Chinook and Holm Made to name a couple.Thiers alot of other very good ones though no doubt.
My AMF wing.Have had it close to thirty years and It just gets better.
Whichever you fancy. My Martin Hunter served me well, and now I am looking forward to a one-piece Silvertip.
Have to agree with buck eye. I shoot a Rose Oak super wild cat. It is the only thing I shoot now. Brandon Stahl is a superior bowyer.
RER Arroyo
fedora 560
PTF Widow
Just one ? How does that work ? ;)
62" Widow PAV since it has to last 'for all time' !
Bear Kodiak.......59/60/62......if a gun was pointed at my head and I was forced to choose just one :dunno: ........probably a 62 right at 55#. I'd be a happy man with that one!
69 Super Kodiak 64in 50@30, smooth as butter.
Toelke Chinook, extremely fast especially with heavy arrows, smooth, stable, very, very quiet and like all Dan's bows beautifully crafted of beautiful woods. Look on www.montanabows.com (http://www.montanabows.com) click on "current inventory" then "traditional bows" to see some.
Take a look at the Bob Lee bows. Heck of a buy and a great bow.
I forgot to mention that I have had the opportunity to shoot most other one piece recurves and my vote is still for Rose Oak. In fairness I have not shot the Arroyo from RER.
Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet. I was told by a few guys that have been around this game a LOOONNNGG time (in other words Old Guys) that I needed to try one out. I finally got my hands on a couple and I have to concur.
Jets are a step (or two) above any bow I've ever shot - in a lot of ways. My father's commment was "There is something special about the Jack Howard Jet." sums it up for me. That's pretty high praise coming from Dad.

I've had some good ones (silvertip, predator), but the one I won't ever get rid of, believe it or not, is a late '90's super kodiak. My beautiful wife got it for me as a birthday present one year just a couple years after I got into bowhunting. It's not too fast or too pretty, but it doesn't matter what I've been shooting, I can pick that thing up and it will drop arrows where I'm looking!
To date I have owned a Widow PTF, three different Blacktails, some vintage Howatt's and Bear Super Kodiaks, Kodiaks,a Big River, three Bruins, a Wes Wallace, A Rose Oak King Panther.
I like the early-mid 1960's-early 1970's Damon Howatt Hunters/Montereys and 1965-66 Kodiaks the best. Of the modern bows the Rose Oak and Bruins were my favorite. Nicest fit and finish goes to the Rose Oak.
You mean like this one.....stabow

Holme Made.
Love the crazy wave accent on those Rose Oaks!
I own two 66" Blacktail take down recurves. If I were to get a one-piece recurve, I would like to get a one piece 66" Blacktail. I shoot both of my Blacktails so well and the bowstring never hits my arm so I don't have to wear an armguard when I'm shooting them. I also love the grip on the Blacktails.
Best one peice recurve I ever shot was a Hummingbird Kingkisher , to me it was smoother and more quiet than his takedown .
Rose Oak King Panther. Beautiful, just beautiful. Shoots great and Brandon is great to work with. Just got number 2 a week ago. Thinkin' 'bout number 3.
Jerry
I would vote for the Black Widow PTF X.
I have owned many in the last 40 years but the BW is the best IMHO.
Charles.
Widow PTFX with the Asbell grip. Best one piece I have ever shot.
Kohannah Kurve
Kohannah  Best bow for the bucks! :archer: :archer2:
robertson tribal stick for me!
Here's a pic of the Talon onepiece. This was a prototype bow. Unfinished.

Damon Howatt Hunter.
Why?
Because many archers a lot better than me say so.
Because few recurves, new or old, can outperform it.
Because it adds 2.5 lbs per inch after 28.
Thats a smooth drawing bow.

I've owned and shot a bunch over the years but if I could only have one from here on out it would have to be one of my mid 1960 Howatt Hunters or my 1968 Howatt Monterey.
Rose Oak Super Wildcat would be the one piece I've held in my hand that I think is tops -- nuclear version of the Bear Super Kodiak. However, I'd bet the Schafer Silvertip in 1-piece would be amazing!
Mine would likely be a Great Northern Ghost, altho I have a Rose Oak that is a really nice shooter.
Mine would have to be the Bruin Recurve one piece. I had one for a while then got what I like to call the 2 year bow itch and traded it. Iv wanted another one since just cant seem to save the money.
For me it would be my BW PTFV. Suits me to a T!
I believe it was actually called the "Master Hunter"
Sovereign Trident. Hard to come by.
For current bowyers I would take almost any Saluki.
howatt or the martin mamba or dreamcatchers look great for production bows. the widow PSR with a recurve grip also looks good.
i personally am a blackwidow man. i've owned 4 different models and they will send you a test bow to try out. my suggestion is go to a trad shoot, most every guy there will let you shoot there bow, we all seem to be very proud of our bows. funny how we (as the one guy said) get that 2 year itch, someone might sell you his to buy a new one.
My vote would be for the vintage works "59"
Toelke Chinook, classic "50's" lines, perfect fit/finish/execution, quiet, fast etc.
A Roy Hall Navajo Stick "diamond". It's super fast, whisper quiet, and looks great. I just love mine.
Chek mate Kings pawn deluxe
McCullough "59" er .... Nuff Said ...
Schafer/Dave Windaur builds a very nice one.
 My perfect one piece would be a Hybrid of the 60's era Wing Redwing Hunter. If only a bowyer could get that awesome choclate toned rose wood and craft a riser slighty longer (60" to 62") than the original 58 "so you wouldn't get the finger pinch at draw lenghts past 28".
I have Redwing hunters at 45 and 50 and 53 and they are very smooth. fast and quiet. The grip is hard to improve on.
The recurve geometry on the RWH is about as close to perfection as God could come up with and if he wanted a bow I think he would apprecaite a Red Wing Hunter.
But He might not listen to me all the time.
One thing about 58" bows is that they are great in a tree stand and also you can shoot them when you are sitting on the ground without the limb tip hitting.
also, the tiny little sculpted tips of the classic RWH are so pretty if i ever break my bow I will make jewelry out of them.
I'm with Jim on this one.... old Red Wing Hunter.
I had an original RWH, 48lbs... it was a sweet shooter until the limb tip cracked while I was shooting carbons out of it (nothing but heavy arrows for me now!) ... it broke my heart when I saw what happened.
Whoa! Time warp!
I'm still liking my Martin/Howatt Dream Catcher and would grab that if the house was afire. Smooth and quiet and spits them out (as well or better than the old Hunters).
Stotler, but that was many years back. I don't know if they are still around or of the same quality and design.
What ever you shoot best would be the one I recommend. Taken care, bows these days will last your life time and pass on to your loved one!
I am a longbow guy but, have one recurve and it will stay for good. It is my new Maddog 60" recurve and let me say it is a shooter!
Good luck with what ever you choose.
widow ptfx
I think just about every recurve made has been listed :)
Like Mr. Rothaar I like my Gamemaster Jet. If it ever eludes my possession and I can not replace it I would quite shooting recurves altogether and just stick to longbows.

I'm a longbow shooter, but the Martin Hunter is the best recurve I've ever shot at any price. It doesn't look custom but it sure does give superior speed with good stability. A most underrated bow.
Custom made I love the Blacktail bows for pretty.
Jack
I have 2, 1-piece recurves. I shoot Rose Oak's Super Wildcat better than I shoot my Blacktail Elite VL. Both are beautiful and extremely well made by gifted bowyers. I don't own a Silvertip 1-piece but I'd bet they are also terrific bows. If I were buying a new one, I'd buy the Silvertip but that's because I already have the other two on my top 3 list.
My all time favorite 1pc recurve is a SLEY by Pat Ley. He no longer builds bows for sale, so this one is really special to me.
I'm waiting on a John Maus KAYAPO that should be built soon. I've never shot one, but I have high expectations for it, going on what others say about them.
If I could only have one one piece recurve I'd have to choose between a older Bear SuperK or a new Norm Johnson Blacktail Elite.
I can have only one & money isn't figured into it right?
Probably a Bear as that's what I started with in the 60s, & the more years add up the more nostalgic I get.

Lot's of great one piece recurves out there for sure!
For me, it is the one piece Silvertip. The checkered grip is awesome, and whisper quiet.
It might be time for another!!
Griffin 59'r for me....60" 56#@28....everything I want in a 1 piece recurve !!
Gene
A Norm Johnson Blacktail is the holy grail to me.Sure wish I had one.
Another vote for RER Arroyo. Similar forward handle like a PTF but way quieter than the PTF I had.
I've owned a couple but if I had to choose one it woud be my Lil Hoot recurve made by Lee Hoots.
River Runner by Chad Holm, maybe with the Kodiak grip!
1967 Super Kodiak...black beauty....haevy in the hands but wow..accurate, smooth draw and quiet...hadn't shot it in a month (using other bows) picked it up and shot a leaf at 40 yards.....had a grin as wide as the sky....love all my bows but this one seems magic..
So, S.C. Hunter, did this narrow it down for you? :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
The one that fits YOUR hand, style and taste is the one you will like. Short recurves are light and handy but can be squirrely and less forgiving (and pinch or stack). Long recurves are smoother but more apt to limit you in tight cover and may have a slower cast for the same draw weight.
And what some consider pretty others do not.
Great Northern Super Ghost
