I just crested up a dozen for deer/turkey season, and man are they looking great. I broke out my new crester tonight, and i'm trully amazed at how thin it gets the pinstripping. When my wife gets back from vacation, I will get some pictures and post them.
What I like about arrows is if you mess one up, you are out, at most, $3. If you mess up a bow, your out alot more, and not to mention more time too. Now if I could just get my wire bent just right for the burner. That's tomorrows mission.
Grapes, I hope you get a camera for Labor Day.

She took it with her. I really need to get a new one. I want one that fits in a shirt pocket, and is rechargeable. If I got one of those, I would be doing all kinds of build alongs. The one we have is about 1 1/2" thick, and I know there is thinner and better out there. Anyone wanna sell one that is just laying around?
Those aren't my gig. Got one in your cell phone?
I couldn't get a phone without a camera when I bought one last. Go figure.
Killdeer
I don't have a camera on my phone. We got them new 2 years ago, and didn't want a camera. It was the only model that didn't have one. I just need to get to one of the big box stores, and pick up a cheap one to keep in my truck.
Grapes, it was great meeting you at GLLI. Make a template for your fletch shape, cereal box paper works pretty good, and use it to guide you as you shape the wire. I find it easier to start at the rear and work forward. You will also learn that the wire will lengthen just a bit when it gets hot. The Young wires are cheap and by far the best way to go. The concave side goes toward the shaft.
Have fun!
I am guilty of that addiction. When we built our house 4 years ago I put a bonus room over the garage and had exhaust fans put in so I could build arrows without fumigating myself or my wife. I have dozens stockpiled for me and have sold a ton of them on the classifieds here.

Me!!!!!!!       :nono: NOT!!!!!!!!

PS: Have I ever mentioned the fact that "I hate building arrows!" Ha Ha Ha...lol
BTW I'm writing down all the names of you folks that say your addicted..lol Future contacts...lol
Not addicted but in the thralls of finishing the fletching on 8 dozen for buddies, and their kids Soon it will be at least two dozen more for their wives. Does that count?

Absolutely
I do not like making them fixing them ect just shooting them.I only make them up because I destroy lots of them .
I was, but now I have so many that I had to quit or move to the porch.

each group represents a dozen, and this ain't all of them.
Hi I'm mysticguido, and I'm Addicted to making arrows.
I just set up my new (to me) feather burner, and this weekend I pick up my feathers, so as long as my wife brings home the camera, I'm gonna have some good pictures for all of you. I just dipped my shafts in clear, and I'm just amazed at how thin that crester allowed me to get my pin stripping. I had to stand there an admire them for a minute before I dipped them.
I do enjoy building arrows, don't think you would say its an addiction...yet.
Grapes, DON'T BURN FEATHERS IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!
Guilty as charged! I am addicted to arrow building.
The smell of cedar, the way the grain picks up the stain, and ooh Duco. I hope it's not the smell of the glue that keeps me building arrows.

I must have heard that atleast 2 dozen times in the last couple weeks when I tell guys I'm gonna burn my own to save money, not to mention I will get fletchings for my boys off of my full length feathers.
I did head everyones advice, and went outside to get my burner set up last night, but due to the tonado siren going off, I ended up doing it in the garage, and holy crap did it ever stink. I know I would of had a spot reserved on the couch for a week had I done it in the house. It was a kinda neat having the tornado siren sounding off while I was doing it though. I'm supposed to pick up my feathers this Saturday, so hopefully I will be shooting them come Sunday afternoon.
I have been glueing feathers onto arrows for quite a few years, and just recently a good friend got me fully indulged in the whole process (from raw shafts to finished product), and I am so glad he did. To me, it's very therapudic.
You should have stayed outside. The winds would have taken the smell to St Clair. :p
We watched the storm skirt north if us...listening to the same sirens.
But this thread is getting boring, WITHOUT PICTURES!!!
I too am addicted to making arrows. There is so much you can do with them.
I got addicted this past year and was buying arrows like they were not going to make anymore. And the wife was madddddd.I was at the point that I was going to have to live in the back yard in a hut made out of arrows. :scared: Archery addictions consume me to fast. :archer2:
Definitely me since moving to woods. I've made 3 dozen arrows since buying my first 6 from Fletcher a month ago.

Guess I'll man up and post a pic. I make mine really simple - right down to my ghetto-cresting.
If I make them too pretty I won't shoot them. These are 80-85 Chundoo shafts.
I have about seven or eight dozen under my belt now and am starting to find excuses to build more. I even crown and crest aluminum. I'm probably a lost cause now!
I am addicted too, with wooden arrows of course (cedar actually but I want to try laminated birch for max weight).
A very simple color choice and cresting
the color of the feathers and shaft from nock to about 10" gives an indication on the type of point
a 1" white stripe with a thin red stripe in the midle gives me an instand bandwidth check.
And I use self nock and linen string to fasten the nock and the feathers (and only linen oil to protect my shafts)

Stinks up the garage pretty badly too! :saywhat:
I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I enjoy it. Just something about shooting arrows you have built yourself.
