"What would Fred do?"
OK just stopped into 3 rivers and saw the new line up of Fred Eichler gear. Just thought that was pretty cool. His is one hunting show i can actually stomach.
J
he's one of the few I like to watch.
Same here...a great guy AND a great show.
Fred is real, Not fake like a lot of the other shows.. Just wish Easton Bowhunting TV was in the Sportsmen channel or the pursuit channel. I don't get the outdoor channel.
Anybody know when/why 3 Rivers dumped Tred Barta?
I too like Fred Eichler's TV persona. Most of the other shows though, I won't even consider merchandise with their host's name on it.
Trad Barta stuff is still there, I believe
Fred has a good persona. Does anyone know if he was ever a representative for Bear Archery? Like in the early 80's ?
Fred worked at Bear, but I don't think he was ever a field rep, especially that early. I met him in Fort Collins in the late 80s when he worked at an archery shop called Arrow Dynamics. I think he was around 20 at that point.

Fred is a top notch person and Ambassador of Archery.
Those of us who met him at the Muzzy were impressed with him. He is just what he appears to be on his show. He is a very likable, fun loving "big kid"...and he can shoot, too!
I like Fred! His real enthusiasm makes me happy.. The only TV hunting show that's not "staged" in my mind.(I'm sure that it is somewhat, for filming purposes, but it doesn't seem so) He's as happy with a doe kill as he is with a trophy.. Gotta be a good guy. He and Ron LaClair are two people I'd like to spend some time with. Both seem to be REAL NICE PEOPLE!! (Oh, just as a side note, I'm on the Shrew waiting list, May of next year can't get here soon enough..)
I heard a while back that Barta had some sort of stroke and was paralyzed. Does anyone know how he's doing?
I am sure he is a great guy, but WWFD?
That is a little over the top for me.
good show, good guy
Fred is the only hunter i like to watch, he seems to grasp what the hunt is all about.
True blue good man. Met him at the muzzy this year.Even bought one of his shirt. I'm proud to wear it..He's a real good shot. He even showed us what Fred would do when he went up to get his trophy from his wife..You should have been there..LOL
I'm ordering a T shirt!!
Check out this thread from this years Muzzy shoot....a lot about Fred from first hand experiences with him.
He's simply a really good dude!

I agree 100%. I like Fred, think he's a great guy, but "WWFD" is a bit much...a bit pompous.
I really like his show. He seems like a really genuine great guy. Would love to be able to sit around a campfire with him. But I do not like the WWFD. Just seems a little disrespectful to my savior. Wish he would have chosen another marketing slogan. Just my personal thoughts. Please don't beat me up for it.
OK, I knew it would come out, Please keep this to talking about Fred Eichler. His slogan has nothing to do with the WWJD bracelets, and in the argument has nothing to do with traditional archery.

First off, are you really willing to say that "WWFD" has NOTHING to do with WWJD?! Do you truly think that the originators of this "slogan" would have come up with it had not been for WWJD?!
Secondly, the thread title is WWFD!!!!! Thats precisely why there are comments posted about it! All that azhunter is doing is expressing his opinions ABOUT Fred's new marketing scheme, which, by the way, is not only the focal point of the entire thread, but is also centered around both Fred Eichler AND traditional archery! C'mon now. Reality check...
WWJD is a marketing slogan for Christianity...and a good one at that. It is not the gospel itself.
I thought that WWFD stood for, What Would Fred (Bear)Do? The fact that Eichler is playing off his common name with Fred Bear IS blasphemous! :readit: ;)
God has a keen sense of humor. Look around.
Kinda like when Steve Austin had Austin 3:16 shirts in wrestling years ago. I think its wrong but thats my opinion. I like Freds shows.
If you are a devout Christian this will bite at you no matter what anyone sez. You gotta be there to know it.RC
I thought WWFD was about Fred Bear too.
Since I don't have television I've never heard of this other guy. My mistake :)
WWFD and WWJD are two way different things, if it irks ya ya might need to loosen the tension a bit. Like his show and all - still haven't checked out the shirts. Yall might be surprised when yall get to the bighouse and Jesus rolls up with a recurve and a WWFD shirt!
J
crgaston, I originally thought the same thing!!!!!!!!! and I have TV.

Good guy, good show, TERRIBLE marketing campaign by 3Rivers. I wouldn't use a piece of that stuff if they paid me to use it just because of the slogan. Disrespectful IMO.

I would have to agree, kinda goofy if you ask me! JMHO!! Jason

You're 100% correct. It's absolutely not. Regardless, the idea/principle that drives the WWJD slogan and is behind it, is taught throughout the Word. As RC pointed out, spinning off of this slogan is something that devout christians are going to be rubbed wrong by. Overall, not a very smart marketing scheme by 3Rivers or Eichler considering the fact that Traditional Archery has a large conservative-based following. Aside from all of this, the slogan seriously lacks originality...it's already been done! Great company (3Rivers), good guy (Fred Eichler)...poor idea. JMO
Needless to say, I won't be buying any of the gear.
There's only one Fred worthy of that moniker and his last name is Bear. I'm sure Fred Eichler thought the same thing when the idea first surfaced.
As a Christian, it doesn't set well with me. They took an obvious Christian slogan, removed Jesus and inserted Fred. I enjoy Fred's show, and he seems like a good guy and family man. I think this was a poor marketing decision and hope 3 Rivers rethinks it.
My two cents.
I was unfamiliar with the markeing campaign. I thought the thread creator made put the spin on WWJD to draw attention to the thread.
Fred Eichler is my 2nd favorite bowhunter on TV. Tim Strickland is my first favorite because of his cerebral, technical approach to archery.
On first thought, I didn't like the marketing approach of WWFD. On second thought though, for those who don't know Jesus it won't matter to them. For those who do know Jesus WWFD will simply be another reminder of Him and that's sure ok with me.
It's amazing what some CHOOSE to be offended over.

Only sharing observations/opinions in an open, traditional archery forum. This IS what we're supposed to do...correct? :dunno:
i saw tred straped to a horse, riding and shooting his bow just a few days ago.he looked good :archer: 5
