Title: What size carbon arrows to shoot for new bow???
Post by: Red Tailed Hawk on August 13, 2010, 05:05:00 PM
I currently am shooting CE 250 arrows at 32" with 125 grain tip.
My draw is 29.5
New bow will be BW psax 62" at 47#

Question is will these arrows work or what would be recommended.

Eagerly waiting for comments   :help:    :help:

I say they will be too stiff unless you put on a heavier point. I would try the 150s.

I think they should work fine. You may have to cut an inch or so off them but should be ok.Is your BW 47# at 28" or at 29.5" you will be "drawing about 51#.I shoot beman 500mfx out of my 47#@28" longbow and they fly great at 31.Helped a guy at the bow shop last night tune a 50lb@28" martin recurve and they flew good on it also. These shafts are about the same spine as the Ce250.

I know they will be way to stiff even at 32"s. You will need at least 250 to 275 up front for perfect flight. You should go to a 150 cut to 31"s if ya want 2"s of arrow past your draw and use a 50 grain brass insert and 125 grain head, I know you will get perfect flight than. I have tuned many Widows and since they are cut so far past center they are forgiving but those 250s are way to stiff. Shawn

I used the Stu Miller Calculator &, according to it, that set up with a 145 grn head is just right. I believe a 125 would work also. JMO

Not sure if this will help but. I shoot a Bob Lee recurve. It is 42# @ 29" and I draw it 30.5" so I shoot it at 45-47#. I use .400 spine Beman ICS Hunter carbon arrows 32" long with a 100 gr. brass insert and 125/ gr. points. They bare shaft just ever so slightly weak which is how I want them before I add fletching. I would say use your current arrows and try 200, 225. 250 gr. field tips. If you want a lighter overall arrow then go down to 150 or .500 spine carbons with lighter point weight.

I have a PSAX that is 45# and it shoots axis nano's 500's great with 200 gr up front. I can shoot it without feathers with no problem at all. Frank
