Came across this photo while cleaning out a room over my parents house. This was taken in the the late 50's of my uncle. As kids we followed our fathers around as they shot hale bales situated out in an old field. Plenty of lost arrows because all they used were field points.
All old time pics here are welcome...this could get interesting....

This should be good.
That's really cool; especially how it caught the arrow and the limbs in mid-stroke.
:campfire: :coffee:
Let's see some more.
That is very cool, those where the days..
Here's a group of Missouri bowhunters back in the day. The fellow with his hand on his cap is Earl Hoyt Jr. and the guy with the cigarette is Paul Jeffries (lifelong hunting buddies)
Proud to have called both of them friend.

Charlie, great photo. No camo in that bunch!
Yeah David, how times change. Of course there were probably only 3 deer taken in the entire state that year. ;) (and that's not a joke or put down. The Missouri deer herd was tiny in the "good ole days")
I have to agree Great Photo!!
I love picking apart old (and new) photos for the little details. Here's a couple of thoughts about this one.
Note everyone's fletching. All natural barred turkey fletch. Gray barr feathers were the easiest to get in those days. Solid dyed white fletch was less common and more expensive.
All were shooting static recurve self bows.... probably all made by Earl (except Paul who made his own).
Shoulder quivers were the way to go and Bean boots were pretty popular.
Here's one from my life while living (and hunting) in Montana.

Neat stuff. Amazing how much has changed and even more amazing how much hasn't. :campfire:
great thread!!!
Just seeing that old time pic with Earl Hoyt kinda makes me sad.... Thinking about how much we lost in the modern times.... Im not sure, but looking at that picture of those guys faces, you can tell they didnt have a care in the world about time.. Just getting out in the field....Taking one step at a time....
broketooth - my wife and son enjoy shooting from time to time, and they naturally shoot with one eye closed. Just can't seem to break that "habit". My wife is a fine shot this way.
Well, I showed them your grandfather and seeing a champion shooting in this manner has provided them re-assurance to just "go with what works".
Nice pictures.
I don't know how old .."OLD" is but heres one of me and Norm Blaker of Michigan.. ( I bet some of you know Norm )We spent about a month I think bowhunting and "bull..t" here in Ohio in the early 80's if I recall .... Norm ...what a great guy and friend !!!!
