Has anyone ever used WATCO danish oil on raw cedar shafts? Can you apply poly over it?
I haven't used it myself but I think it seals the shaft also,so you don't need to use poly. Some one with more experience will chime in soon.

Do a search, remember reading were others have used it.
I've used it quite a bit. Really don't need to put anything else over it, though I have occasionally dipped them in Bohning lacquer for added weight. Bopnded OK, but shooting into targets would rub off the lacquer. I expect the same thing would happen with poly. If you do choose to do it, make sure the watco is completely dry, i.e., let it dry a week or more before coating it with something else.
Again, if you hand rub multiple coats, or better yet, soak the arrows in the oil for several days, it provides a good finish all by itself when dry.
Orion covered it.
Thank you, I'll give it a try.
Sorry, one more question. Would I be able to crest over the Watco or would that rub or peel off as well?
I don't think you will be able to do that with Danish oil. I've used it on a lot of blackpowder stocks. A friend I did one for tried to put some kind of camo on the stock and it would not adhere. Hope this helps.
