... a full time job that is! It's quite the feat coming from flint Michigan.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting this here is now with a full time job, I am able to buy a new bow guilt free.
So this is what I'm planning to order up in the next few weeks:
A Howard Hill Cheetah (the same bow i shot as a kid) 66" 48#@28" with an ebony riser, a wine colored grip (glued not laced), and a dished Grip, as i find it more comfortable than the locator and have not had the chance to shoot a striaght grip.
One thing I have been rolling over in my head is if i should have it made into a take down (however with the price of this option the ebony is out for sure, maybe cocobolo to replace it?). The only purpose is for ease of travel, and for the few trips i make a year i don't know if it would be worth it.
The other thing we've been discussing (my dad and I that is) would having the bow made into 68" make it any smoother, what's two more inches anyway!
I just wanted to take a minute and gather up some other opinions on take downs and length.
Any input is appreciated and sorry for the long winded explanation
Congratulations on the job! My wife is from Michigan and we have relatives there so I know how hard it can be to find a job.
As far as opinions, everyone has one.... but I think that if it was me, I would get the takedown sleeve for the "cool" factor. I wouldn't use it much either, but it would be there if I ever needed it. And I can only speak from my limited experience but I have had a 68" longbow, and a 66" longbow. I still have the 66" and I never really could tell any difference. I settled on the 66" because that is how tall I am!

If you are not gonna be flying with your bow, you might consider NOT getting the takedown option and get the bow you want. I have seveal takedown bows in my arsenal and ya know. . . I never take them down to travel in the truck or car.

Congratulations on the job!!
Take your time and get the bow you want.
If not you could end up like the rest of us bowaholics..
It's not a pretty life but.... man!.. is it fun..lol
God bless,Mudd
Way to go Brother!!!
Big time hard to do around here!
Take a breath my friend.
Same input... I've had a couple of Hill TD's and never took them apart. I now have a couple of hinge TD flatbows, and they live apart in a roll up case with a dozen arrows... put together only at the range. They're just so easy to assemble and disassemble. The sleeve system, while effective, is IMHO messy and stiff to work.
If you really draw 28", get the 68", if you're a bit short of that, you won't notice the difference between 66" and 68", but at 28" to 29", you very well may. There is variation between bows, though I will say that the several Cheetah's I've had were among the smoothest Hills.
Well, a chip off the old block eh?
Don't forget to measure the inside of your Vibe before you order LOL! :biglaugh:
Congradulations on the job.
Congratulations on the job!! I find myself complaining about my job from time to time, then i stop and think about not having a job...I just shut-up.
Hope you enjoy your Cheetah!
Really good to hear about getting employment. Things are really bad here in Michigan for sure.
Enjoy the Hill, whatever one you choose I am sure will be fine. Craig doesn't build any junk.....
Congrats Sean, Blessings to you and your family. I hope to see you this weekend at the GLLI. :bigsmyl:
Chuck
No experience with take down bows. Sorry. Just wanted to say contests on the job!!
Magnus
Congrats on the job, laid off after 23 years this past January and only found part time work so far. Thanks to God the wife has a good job and if the p/t continues for 2 more months it will stay that way into January.
Good for you Sean.Jobs are hard to come by in S.E MI these days.
good luck and have fun with a new bow or 2.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
I think I'm going to have the bow done in 66" and no take down. If it really can't fit in my car i have a roofrack, and a pvc tube is cheaper than a take down option. Also by lower the cost of the bow i can order sooner :)
Chuck,
I'm going to try and make it. I couldn't talk anyone into going with me but i think i'll be there saturday morning for a while. I really like the area it's hosted at.
Whaaaa? Dad and Doug are not coming? I hope you make it, I got something to show you.
Chuck
no dad or alternate dad (doug). One is up north, and one has to work. The gf is in New Mexico for a week, and my buddy got roped into a concert.
Whatcha got Chuck? I'll probably leave flint around 8-830 am saturday.
Sean congratulations on the job. Is the Cheetah the one with the juniper veneers? Ebony riser? Will look great. Watch who you hang out with, people will talk :bigsmyl:
Congrats! I have heard that Flint Michigan is one of the hardest places in the U.S. to find gainfull employment these days.
What I miss most about this Howard Hill Big 5 bow was the Take Down Grip. It was staight and just filled my hand perfectly. This bow was just too light for me otherwise I would still have it.
Also, the Shedua riser was really beautiful.

owlbait,
Yes indeed it does have the Juniper. That ebony sure is slick looking.
jonsimoneau,
It's tough. I think i just got lucky that a job that required my skill set (money handling), that offered full time employment with benefits.
I finally did it. The check will be in the mail tomorow morning. Here is what i went with:
48#@28", 68" long, cocbolo for the riser, and after a lot of thought i decided that for now the takedown isn't practical for what i plan on doing.
Jobs are hard to come by everywhere, congrats to you man! I'm happy the Good Lord smiled on you.
I'm still waiting for my call, maybe soon?
Where I live in SE Missouri is a stagnent job area also, but you just have to wait it out. Sooner or later hopefully something will happen.
Good job on the "Job" and enjoy the Hill.
God bless

Good plan Sean!
Congrats on the new job...that is a great relief, I'm sure!
Enjoy your new Cheetah when it comes!
Congrats on the job!
I wouldnt spend any of your hard earned money on a bow. Save it for something frivolous of which a bow is not and borrow one from dads collection. He probably wont notice. :bigsmyl:
6'2" & prefer longer Hills 68" & above. Heavier draws also. Consider it. Hard to make a mistake. Good job news too.
Izzy, he's having it shipped to my house... :bigsmyl:
Good advice Izzy, but seriuosly shoot some different bows then decide.
He pretty much shot a lot of different bows at Compton's last year plus the ones in my collection, but he's had his heart set on a HH Cheetah for some time now.
Way to go Sean. Your Dad and I knew we had ya hooked!
You shooting a Hill now too Doug? Maybe them MOABs will hit the classifieds soon. :readit:
Naw Izzy, Tween Rick and I we just been eggin the young un to buy some bows. Its workin.
I am thrilled to know about the new job and naybe a little more to hear that your thinking about a Hill bow!
Awesome!
Congratulations on both counts.
God bless,Mudd
Besides, someday, if and when he gets hitched he'll find out how hard it is to sneak 'em in the house
That's when i'll start buying the take downs, or claming dad is having the bow shipped to my house.
Well less than 3 weeks after he ordered it the Mail Lady dropped this off today.

Now I gotta wait till he gets here from work for the unveiling. I already texted him these pics.
Congrats on the job!!
Sean, I am SOOO happy for you, a man needs to work... he also needs to get a bow guilt free. You now deserve it and I think someday you will have both takedown and one piece. Why not!
Atta boy Sean!!! Hey Rick, so can my next bow be delivered to your house? Since I am, as you say, "hitched"!! LOL :help:
