any suggestions on face paint brands... easy removal, easy on the skin, etc. (hope im not asking to much) thanks gray
Ive used some from HS which I found a bit greasy and it seemed to get on everything that it touched which didnt impress me. If you can find a military surplus store or online source I would suggest the camo sticks they use. Last I knew it came in a metal tube with one color on each end and it didnt suffer the problem of rubbing off on all of my other gear.
Getting any of it off never seemed to be much of a problem, soap and water and a bit of baby oil for the tough spots.
I use Hunter Specialties' creme style paint that comes in a tube. The stuff that they make that comes in that compact is hard to apply; especially in cold weather. Last year I wanted a gray color to match our hardwoods and bought some Ben Nye makeup (Cadaver Grey) from a local place that caters to the theater market. It's more expensive but really good stuff and a little goes a long way. Both brands come off with soap and water but I have found that using cold cream, instead, is easier on your skin and does a better job at removal. You can find any of this face paint online.
Hope this helps!
Darren
burnt cork works ok, but I like the bear grease that Darren said above. The military sticks are good too, but you need to put some baby oil or bug juice on your face first to help it go on and Off easier. Don
Try a spandoflauge headnet they fit snug, cut holes for eyes if wanted, hold up glasses if you wear, helps keep face warm, helps keep bugs away and no clean up!!
I really like Larry D. Jones face paint he sells on his web site. It isn't greasy and it comes off easily. I have also used Carbomask in the past and it work well also.
i have some powdered stuff i got umpteen years ago, i like it but have never seen it anywhere in recent years, i think it was from h@s.
My favorite was a product called 'carbo-mask' Still available, but not in production any longer.
Went on like the others, but wiped off with a damp paper towel.
Pretty much exhausted my supply, so now I have the HS stuff and go to work on mondays with a dark gray neck. :D
I stock up after halloween at wallmart for kids face paint. 75 cents a tube, covers good, goes on easy , no smell, and wipes off easy.
Best deal going.
Also check the dollar stores.

CARBOMASK the best I've ever used.
I use scent free baby wipes to remove my face paint.
I personally prefer the camo skinz head nets/covers from cabelas. They are quite light and not too hot in warm weather and fit your face like a glove. Also keeps the skeeters at bay in the early season. When it gets a little colder I like the under armour cold gear head cover. Face paint and I never got along well as it irritates my skin. Some of the suggestions above sound like guys have found much better quality face paint than I tried before. Good luck.
carbonmask.
Get it from ghilliesuitsdot com.
Great stuff that actually makes you less greasy. Using it on a long backpack hunt makes you look forward to using it as it is better than a face wash for removing the "backcountry funk".
Over the years I've tried almost all of the stuff recommended. The powder (Tink's) compacts, mil spec tubes, spand-o-flage, all leave something to be desired. My go-to camo face paint in recent years is the Hunters Specialities camo creme in tubes. Black, Brown and Green. Goes on easy and will last the whole day or multiple days. Some does wipe off on your clothes but it won't permanently stain (my pillow case looks horrible after two weeks in face paint but comes out spotless after a wash). The best thing about it is that it will withstand sweating ie. it's still on after you get to the top of the mountain. When you want it off, just water won't do it but add soap and it comes right off.
doug a is fight about baby wipes. i began a clown ministery 3 years ago, after putting on my clown make up i use setting powder to keep it from coming off in real hot weather. the wipes are the only thing that will take it off without scarring your face.ha! my wife said it's gonna be funny when i foget i'm going hunting and put on my clown camo instead of hunting camo. i can see all the animals huddled up laughing at me.
I also use costume makeup. I usually use the cake makeup and put a grey, brown, or dark green base down and then paint in some black stripes.
I liked the HS stuff, but only used the black color for max contrast/knock the shine off high points.
I thought it wore off pretty easy in hot hunts.
I run HS 3/4 facemasks now, didn't take long to adjust to the feel difference.
You should what robtattoo uses...

Must be a Jersey thing. I do the same.
And on a Texas hunt I once used makeup remover pads that my sister-in-law had. Worked really well and I am secure enough to admit it. :D

It was from Bear. Nice stuff. I still have a couple containers of it. Still use it.
I stopped using paint a long time ago. I use stretch-fit headnets now for convenience. Of course nothing wrong with the paint.
little dirt + few drops of water
comes off as easy as it goes on... my .02
I backed off from using face paint or head nets several years ago just to see if I would be caught by deer more often, didn't seem to make much difference. I still feel naked without covering my face and keep a head net in my pack for when the bugs are bad but hear and see much better without one.

I just want to clarify . . . I just shot an email to Bob Ray, the owner of Carbomask, just to make sure their wasn't any validity of this. Carbomask is still very much in production, and is constantly growing.
Gordy I just wanna make sure my friend over at carbomask didn't loose any business. I hope you don't take it personal or anything like that :)
Glad to see they are still making this product, works well!
I used Carbomask on my bear hunt. It's not as hot as wearing a cloth face mask. Stays on all day in sweat, but comes off easy with soap and water. Mike
Ahhh...baby wipes! THATS how you get that stuff off! Good to know! Might be a shade easier than carrying my towel and a bottle of cold cream around to "wash up" with after I return to jeep. Besides,i always get home smelling like I had a REALLY wild night, you know? Might try the halloween stuff too..sounds easy to get it off. Thanks,Lee
Like Pete Ward said...go to Walmart and get the Halloween stuff...cheap and easy to get off with baby wipes. I bought 10 tubes of white and black last year...got enough for years of hunting for under $15....I hunt in a lot of poplars so the b & W works for me!!
Hey Chris that's great news.
I apologize for the wrongful information ... but I had emailed and was told that. Of course that was probably several years ago ! ;)
I use burnt cork more often than anything else.
I have used everything out there, HS, military grease sticks, cork, even mud. But Carbomask is the absolute best. Goes on easy and comes off just as easy and like it has been said before my skin feels clean after removing it. I hope they are around forever cuz I don't want to use anything else ever again.
the last few years I have used burnt cork,it works well and you can remove it easy,I used to use face mask but I started thinking about the effect that my breath has on the mask after wearing it all day,so I switched to the cork.I have used the commerical paints but they were hard to remove.I went down to the creek bank and found a clay deposit, and dug some out.It dries to light so I'm trying to find something to mix with it so it will dry darker,I've tried burnt wood but it doesn't blend well, maybe I need to grind the char better and let it soak some before I mix it.
easy to remove with water but lasts...Carbomask
Easy on skin....Carbomask.
The stuff actually cleans your skin gently like a mud mask.
Your supposed to take it off? Any of the cheep stuff and I use soap and water with a wash cloth, and then I get a facial at the end of the season. :goldtooth:
I use whatever it is that they sell at Wally World, the "Cammo Compact" I think it's called. Goes on pretty well, lasts, and comes sortof maybe easy-ish. Much easier with some baby oil.
I use the stuff in the tube. Mostly just the black. It goes a long ways. Comes of easy with baby wipes. I also have some compacts, but is harder to apply. It also comes of with the wipes.
I use a HS mask that has a eye (clears my glasses) hole with binding (bias tape) around it. The mask is light (screen/net - same as my early season gloves), and loose but has a short flexible band that you form across the bridge of your nose which, along with my glasses, keeps it in place around my eyes with no problem. I wash them along with my hunting cloths, and keep extras - I buy one most every time I see them, just in case - LOL. The camo colors of the net/screen fades from washings, too much after awhile. Then I chuck it. Oh yeah - I like camo paint/make-up but after I had to wear my bifocals all the time I could never keep them clear of "grease" - drove me crazy.
Dead down Wind has face paint now I have good reviews of it
