Title: Mohawk or Baraga?
Post by: xtrema312 on August 09, 2010, 11:53:00 AM
I plan to shoot the Baraga this weekend, but I have yet to find a Mohawk to try.  For those who have owned both, what do you think of these two bows?  How do they compare in all the important points?

I have owned both but now I only have 3 Mohawks.

I'm sorry but I'd be lying if I told you I could remember much about the baraga other than it was a pretty bow and I did in fact own it.

I can tell you that I love all three of my Mohawks.
Vango-68" 46@28, Lil Mo 66" 47@28 and the latest which hasn't whispered its name to me as yet 62" and 51"@28(I think) I'll get out to the shop again after it cools off a little and verify.

I doubt this is much help but it does tell you something.

God bless,Mudd

I can't speak for the Mohawk, I have never shot one. But, back in January, in K'zoo I shot several of the Longbows there, I really had no intention of a purchase at the time, LOL, but wanted to get the feel and see how each and everyone I could get my hands on felt, shot etc.... Well, I shot about four different Baraga's that Steve had there (I had to be a believer) anyway for me, I became a believer. I picked mine up this June a Comptons. I imagine that you are going to GLLI.  Try several, a great bow and Steve is a great guy to deal with. JMHO

I had a 62" Baraga, loved everything about it. Smooth as butter all the way out to 30", and darn quick too! It was just too short for me, and light as a feather (too light for me). That said, I'm picking up my 66" Superior at the GLLI this weekend.

Never had the pleasure of shooting one of Vince's bow, I've heard nothing but praise of them though.

2 outstanding bows AND bowyers, tough call there.

Eric

Todd Ive had both and liked both alot but Id give the edge to the Mohawk . Vince is a hard man to beat when it comes to mild r/d bows  and his customer service is is one of the best if not the best out there .

Todd, Shoot a couple of Steve's bows this weekend and you will find your answer.  I have never found a Northern Mist I didn't like and Steve is as good as they come.

I have shot both and I am super picky just ask my wife. Anyway I believe that for ME I would go for the Baraga. Steve's workmanship is 2nd to none. I can pick apart any bow and there is only 2 that I have shot and looked over top to bottom with a discerning eye that were perfect and one was a Baraga and I told Steve so. Flint

The Mohawks are very smooth to draw. Mine is a Mohawk Classic(Black Glass) 50@28", 68" long. I wanted mine to look very original. They have a little deflex/reflex and they have a lot of cast.

Seems as if you would be happy with either.

Since you have shot a Baraga, I think Vince has a try out bow you can try for the cost  of shipping.  If not I bet someone close to you probably has one you can try.

Personally I have shot a NM Superior, I shoot it well but seem to get a bit of hand shock.  Not enough hand shock however to break my joy of being nuts on.

Good luck with your quest.

Thanks for all the input.  I have read many post about D shape when strung R&D LB's with good cast and other good qualites, and these two bows seem to be the stand outs for the price.  I will give the Baraga another try this weekend if possible and see just how it suits me.  I will have to check to see if I can get a Mohawk loner.  The grip on a Mohawk looks like it would fit my hand real well.

I have a superior, baraga an a shelton all are super bows. sorry never shot a mohawk but I have never heard anything bad about them.you should hunt one down an try it.an choose one for yourself.however if you dont have time to do this you wont be upset with a baraga!

I have owned both. The Baraga has less hand shock. It is the way to go.
