Title: ??? on Bitz Fletcher
Post by: Bowmania on August 03, 2010, 10:32:00 AM
I have left wing clamp and index.  What does the index do?  I take it I just can't buy a right wing clamp???  -  I also need the right wing index???

It does help, but there is enough adjustment in the Bitz system, that you can indeed do both RW and LW with the same indexer.  I bought a RW system, but have fletched many LW arrows out of it.  The indexer makes it a bit easier, whereas I have to use just about all of the adjustment available to switch form RW and LW helical.

You can fletch just with the new clamp if you have press in nocks like carbons or if you just press your nock on but don't glue. After the arrow is fletched, just turn the nock where you need it.If you have to refletch just one feather,it is tough to get it back in the right position.I just bought 3 new right wing indexers for that reason.

I fletch both right and left and have a right helic indexer.  No problems doing either one.  Just buy the right helic clamp and you should be good to go.

The good folks at Bitz will tell you that the indexer repositions the fletch a tad to avoid hitting "cables". There is a standard indexer that you can use for both Left and Right wing fletch. So....the Left and Right indexers are not needed for Trad. However if you want Helical you should use the Left or Right clamp with the same wing fletch.

Like luvn said, the indexer serves to clock the nock in relation to the fletching.  For a long time, there was only the standard or "straight" indexer.  The L and R indexers were made to give better cable clearance with the confound devices.  The worst you are gonna have to do is rotate the cock feather in for better shelf clearance.

I have some indexers that fletch the cock feather at 12 o'clock like BW recommends.  It works pretty good, too.

Reckon I've had my Bitz too long- I've never heard of an index accessory.

The indexer is the nob that you turn to rotate the shaft to the proper position in the Bitz jig. It is not an accessory. It's purpose is to aline the fletch properly on the shaft. It also alines the fletch for 4 or in some cases 6 fletch configurations. It is held in by a set screw. I hope I haven't confused the issue.  :)
