I woke up this morning with a feelin' of excitement in my gut and didn't know why. I then looked at my kid's calender to see what was up this week and WHAM! it hit me...30 days until I am in Wyoming again chasing the grey ghosts of the high country (Mulie bucks). I will have a cow elk tag in my pocket too and would be tickled to death to kill one with my bow. So who else is short-timing it?
Less than two weeks! Headed to near Pinedale, WY to work with MO Sherpa and Mule Creek Outfitters. Camp jack and cook but will have a cow tag in my pocket. Will be in big mulie country in the Bridgers - livin' on mountain time.
Me, same thing every year. Gets worse as you get closer.
Here in NW Montana, I live almost at ground zero, and biting at the bit waiting for Sept 4th.
4 years and counting! Retirement hunt!
Yes it is getting close.. 3 weeks 5 days. I am now having trouble going to sleep at night.
Leave on the 28th to chase mulies around the Dixie Nat. Forest in southern Utah. Already sharpening broadheads.
I'll be going to Colorado for the last two weeks of elk season this year.
Roughly 6 weeks to elk in Colorado.....yippppeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bigsmyl:
8 weeks & counting for me! Antelope (& hopefully elk) in Pinedale, Wyoming! Looking forward to meeting up with a real good old buddy more than the hunting though :D

Leaving in 23 days for Montrose CO. Gonna chase elk for 8 days on a private ranch with three wheelie shooters.
August 15 for antegoats, but what I'm really looking forward to is September in the elk woods.
A little under 3 weeks til we can hit the woods! Excited? You bet!! Good luck everyone!
27 days and a wake up. I might go west across the road; or east around the corner and up the road...
decisions decisions.....
Brian, that ain't fair :)
My bags are already packed, all my broadheads are sharp, now I gotta decide on a bow to hunt with....
Good luck you guys. I can't wait for the stories and pics. Hopefully will have some of my own!
26 days and I am a west bound blurr on Hwy 90 after a left turn at Sioux Falls...
Only another 500 miles from there.. lol
1100 miles from my door to the ranch. This place is worth every mile driven!
Waterhole and spot n stalk Antelope in wide open beautiful country...
My gear list is written and the packing has started. I've hunted this ranch in 2008 and this time I am self guiding/camping. I am looking forward to seeing every star in the sky being 90 miles from a large town...! The bowhunting is amazing chasing all this game...
Sept 10 to Utah and then up to Montana for elk and mule deer. Planning three weeks total. Mike
Does Western Kansas count?? Looking forward to the storys and picks.
Tracy
Holy Crap!!! Only 23 days before we leave for CO and I'M NOT READY. hahaha
Of course most of my stuff never got totally unpacked after last year. Just need to put the finishing touches on arrows/broadheads. Maybe make another spare string. Check the Rokon and make a longbow holder for it to replace the wheelie scabbard. Camp meeting is this Saturday.
Only missed two seasons since 1993 and one of those was medical related.
I am counting the days till I go hunt out in West Texas w/7th Age... Does that count?
Sept 6th first light............I am ready
First time in 4 years I'm not counting the days. We're passing this year up and let me tell ya it's weighing heavy on me. Nothing (so far) to compare to the elk woods. I love to hunt whitetails, but it's just not the same!!
BOB
Is it time let the game began Pronghorn/Elk
Here is a liitle something to help you guys from "back east" sleep at night (in Western Colorado any place east of Denver is referred to as "back east") :) Jim

Heading into the mountains in NV for mule deer in 2 days! Can't wait, got the wife on the video camera again. Got a nice buck last year, it'll be on my website soon. Hitting my editor with a cattle prod to get it done!
Awwright South! Go get 'em!
Jim that pic sent me over the edge :scared:
Come on Aug.21!! :banghead: I'm not traveling much this year just hunting close to home but just as excited. Good luck to all this season.
Brian,
I know what you mean do I take a short trip or a short trip to my hunting spots? I have a hot elk spot about 30 miles from the house, and plenty of them closer. I deer hunt two miles from my place. In Washington we consider anything east of Idaho to be back east.
Does Texas count? Five months away for me. Most of my deer hunting is done west of my house, about 80 miles in central NY.Next year Ill probably do Montana or Wyoming for deer.I sure do miss it out there.
Headed Way..Way West. Alaska for Spot and Stalk Black Bear on Aug 27th!
Heading to the South San Juan Wilderness for elk on September 14. Can't wait!!!!!!!
I'll be a couple of days behind you, Matthew. Atleast we aren't competing with Herdbull in there this year.
23 days and counting before we head for Alaska for Moose!!
Mike
Sept. 18th for Montana Elk & deer
Not heading west just north a few hours in my home state of AZ. Bull tag sept 10th. Cant wait!

Nathan
We have been in camp here in the San Juans of southwest Colorado for about a month. Doing a few things around camp just waiting on the last weekend of this month. This is my 46th year to come chase either mulies, bear, or elk. I never get tired of it but the mountains get bigger and steeper every year.
4 days 'til my antelope hunt begins here in northeast NM... :jumper:
Looks like everybody is as geared up as me! Some of you guys that are less than a week and living right on top of a mountain are hurting me big time :bigsmyl:
36 days till I leave for Idaho to chase elk.
37 days till my CO elk hunt with several other TG'ers! Can't wait for the countdown to count DOWN!
Wish I had a story to add. My brother and I were suppose to be doing a DYI pack in back country hunt in Colorado, but he had some personal stuff come up and had to back out. Next year for sure.
Antelope hunt starts sat in N.M. I WILL BE THERE
Been scouting three days a week for over a month now.
Got some good ones spotted, need to find a few more.
Don't count the ones in the yard or in city limits.
If I go to far west I will be standing in salt water.
Good luck everyone.
John
