I find myself ordering extra arrows without needing them right away. I will "save them for a rainy day". Luckily I only shoot 1 kind of arrow.. Anyone else do this, if so how many do you stock pile?
Not nearly enough, it seems! I bought 4 dozen extra XX78 2016s a couple of years back--they stopped making that spine and I'm down to 18 shafts. When I find a shaft my bow likes, and there's a good buy, I will usually buy a few dozen. Cedar, I'll buy a hundred.
I usually buy a dozen every year weather I need them or not. Not a bad idea to have spare shafts on hand these days.
i have lots of arrows.i mostly shoot cedars, but i started making my own and went crazy.i've made bamboo with trade points, lots of cedars, some carbons and some alum.i went nuts.now i'm laid off so i don't have the money.this slowed me down a little.start making your own,it's alot of fun.
I have bought arrows when I get a good buy on them and have not used or made them up for a couple of years.
ya evertime im out at a shoot people are always selling arrows i try too pick them up if there cheap...i get them for flu flus..... huntryx they still make em in that spine in the legacy version...
Guilty! I probably have over 200 raw cedar shafts awaiting my clumsy efforts!
Yes, I should have enough to last for the rest of my life.
I've got about 2000 shafts awaiting my retirement @ the end of the year, w/enough feathers to match. Hap

Arrows, Shafts, Guns and ammo also these days.. ;)
Of course! What else can you do in winter when you're snowed in? Make arrows!
I've got tons of wooden shafts stockpiled. I sure wish I would have stockpiled more feathers though as my older ones seem to be much higher quality.
i stock pile as many as i can get my hands on as they are so expencive and the price just keeps going up. $5.95 for one poc shaft.
No, I only have about 300 or so but now that you mention this I should start stockpiling now.
Great idea I'm down to only a about a 100 shafts.
Yes..! I have 100's of shafts.. Alum, cedar and Gold Tips.. Any bow that I would buy the rest of my life I will have a shaft on hand that it "likes"...
Too many shafts in heavy spine, not enough in some lighter spines. Mostly POC, but have Fir, Spruce, Lodgepole and some laminated Birch. Aluminum in different sizes and some that should be sold to someone that can use them. Lots of old fiberglass arrows, some that won't get used.
Need to thin the shelves before I buy more, but I am not making any promises. Too many to count, same with feathers. Buying online is too easy.
I'm still dangerously low.I only have on hand around 500 or less in various stages of completion.
Need to get up to comfortable level soon.(Above 1000)
I live on the east of England and you never know when or if the French may try something on. So at the mo I have about 500+
I have a stock pile of 7 functional arrows from the original 12 I bought 4-5 years ago. :)
Cromm, that's a good one, love it! :biglaugh:
When Obama became president I went out and bought 1000 more arrrows ...I was afraid he would ban arrows... :archer2:
I flip flop between cedar, sitka spruce, carbon, bamboo and other natual shafts. Dosent seem like I ever have more that 10-11 of the same. Still trying to find that perfect for me shaft.
I can't have too many 2016's... If the price is right, I'll buy 'em up.
... mike ...

Naw, just bow strings.   ;) :D
I have 6 arrows ready to go. I just keep repairing them with Reparrows. :archer:
Not enough, but my wife says I have too many!!!!
My hero when it comes to arrows ( and my defense when my wife says I have too many) is the quote from Chet Stevenson (The Olde Bowhunter book).
He talks about his fascination with arrows and "that he has enough to shoot an arrow every sixty seconds for eight hours a day and could be shooting into the fourth day."
Sounds like I have just enough then. Hap
I think I can let my wife answer this one. After all we have no room above the fridge or kitchen cabinets due to arrow boxes.Maybe I can get on the show Hoarders.
I do, but only aluminums. Got a bunch of the Easton Autumn orange, and the Legacy's. If they do stop making aluminum shafts, I'm in good shape.
Stockpile??? I have enough to help Cromm if called upon.
Too many to even count would be my number. Vast majority wood but some alum. thrown in for good measure. No carbons though.
I'm getting packed to move... And figuring out I've squirreled away way more goodies than I figured. Not enough mind you, just more than I knew I had.
Figured out my arrows for once and for all. Let the stockpiling begin!
Wish I stockpiled Lodgepole Pine shafts when I had the chance....
ak.
I don't understand the concept? Stockpiling? What's that?
That language doesn't compute for someone who actually hates making arrows.
I buy when I have money, I try to trade for them when I don't.
The only rule I have about numbers of arrows is I want to make sure I have more of them than I do bows. I seriously doubt I have ever had too many or even enough that I could feel comfortable enough that I wasn't always looking/searching out where I might find the next good deal.
God bless,Mudd
I've started to stockpile arrows. I learned my lesson the hard way. I loved to shoot 2113 and 2115 aluminum arrows and then Easton discontinued both sizes. I had to add one inch of length to the arrows I now shoot so today, I'm a ordering a dozen 2215s.
not me bd (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/arrows001-1.jpg)
Yep....I have a lifetime supply of Arrow Dynamics Trads.
I was afraid they would stop making them......
I just ordered 3 dozen woodies, have 2 dozen carbons from 3 Rivers, at least 2 dozen 2216s, and half as many "extra" arrows as Bowdoc in a 10 gallon bucket :)
I am like Terry...what if I needed some arrows and didn't have them :scared:
I'm a 1918-2016 autumn orange freak.
I've been hand selecting cedar shafts at shoots and rendezvous for the past 25 years or so. Probably don't need to buy any more, ever, but I probably will.
Wish I'd stockpiled Chundoo-Lodgepole Pine in the lower spines when I sold the business 5 years ago. Oh well, have lots of Sitka Spruce and aluminum;s in lower spines to last me the rest of my life and then some.
My wifw says "how many arrows do you need" after making up several dozen and I always say "as many as I can buy, you never know when you may run out".
when I "retire" a bow, and there have been many over the years I always keep all the arrow for that bow, got 5 gal buckets full in my attic, for what I don't really know...........James
Gee...I thought I was gettin' a little OCD about arrows 'til I saw some of these posts...with 217 mixed wood/alum/carb as I just counted (& a dozen new wood customs on the way), I see my symptoms are not too severe, comparatively (yet).
Being more of a shooter than collector, I still manage to accumulate "extra" stuff that I sometimes wonder why I "need"
I have about 300 laying around. Can't have too many, but from looking at these posts, I'm on the short end in comparison to a lot of you guys.
Does being in the process of making 8 dozen woodies count? How about if they are for your daughters, God son, and two buddies.
I am putting together an order for 4 dozen more carbon shafts. And the stockpiling continues....
ive been messing around w/ spine wgt. and materials i have about 6 dozen "rabit" arrows now ill have to get crackin this fall
I make my own, and always have around 300 on hand
You know you have to many when every time you turn around in the work room a bucket of arrows fall over. Well over 25 doz. or so and not a bad one in the bunch.
I found a dozen ash shafts that are double tapered...wonder what I intended to do with 'em?
I've started. Arrow making is addictive. I like it when my friends shoot stuff with what I made them. I just keep running out of feathers.
I'm on the light side of arrows. I've got 2 dozen 2212s and 1 dozen 2215s on the way from Bowhunters Superstore. I figure 5 dozen of each should last me the rest of my shooting lifetime.

If you go stump shooting with us, I promise they won't take you through ONE DAY.
I have enough douglas fir to build a log cabin!!! :biglaugh: Can't have enough!
My wife has seen me shoot, so she doesn't mind when I order more. I just try to make them fast enough to keep a full quiver.
Allegheny mtn here I come I have some catching up to do.....
I have 12 to 14 dozen aluminum shafts in the sizes I use and a couple hundred mixed arrows made up....just bought a pro crester so I can make some purdy ones as well as functional ones. Still buying up all the xx75s I can find in the right sizes when the price is right.
My Hero's.... Jason
Every time I get a good deal on a 2219 or 2216 I pick them up.
I just got into woods though and will probably be stockpiling 80/85, 85/90 shafts whenever I can find them. I could never have enough arrows.
If I break one I buy two.

That don't sound like nearly enough :nono: :)
I wish I had the extra money to. I still have the first 6 carbons and 2 need feathers that I need to find cheap. I am going to start making my own as soon as I can get enough time. Working all the time got a 3 yr old and getting married doesnt leave alot of time or money.
im sad now i had i doz GT trads but broke one the other day so i have a grand total of 11 shafts i still need to get feathers for them. :(
once im done school i am sure the "stockpiling" will begin but i call it being prepared.
Hey Willrett, you have enough to get the job done, Got to love carbons they just last. If you had the money than you'll have a bucket full just sitting there like the most of us.
I have a few cedar repairarrows laying around and doz and a half of carbons, half of those need fletching.
OOOoooh yeahh! I got my armor-piercing bodkins stockpiled and all set up for the revolution brother!
I just got in 3 more dozen. That makes 8 total. That should last a while
I have enough supplies on hand for around 1,500 small game arrows. The deal was just too good to pass up, and trying to shoot squirrels out of trees means that arrows don't last very long.

I keep a few on hand for my son, my dad and myself. Probably took that pic a couple of years ago. I keep a variety of spines for different bows and shooters. Plus box of carbons, microflites, aluminums, fletched arrows, finished shafts and buckets of arrows like bowdoc. Can't ever have too many arras!!!
We'll take your answer as a 'yes', dino!
I have lots and lots of arrows ... wood, aluminum, carbon. I love quivers and quivers have to be full of arrows. Just started selling a few I'll never shoot but I'm sure I'll be buying more.
When Glenn St Charles had his archery store I used to go in there just to pass the time of day,get free coffee, flirt with Suzanne and drool over all the cool stuff in the museum. One of the things that always was of interest to me was all the quivers full of arrows. Those were the best of times in my traditional archery past.
Here is one of my stock piles of carbons in a pvc tube.

I counted the other day and had over 40 arrows with broadheads on them, old Bear heads and Zwickeys.
Cromm, now that's funny!! Laughed out loud..
I try to buy all the odd lots of cedar arrows from 40 to 65 pounds or so. I usually end up refletching them and I put a blunt on them and go squirrel hunting. On a good day I can lose 8-10 arrows. On a great day, I can lose 8-10 arrows and connect with a squirrel. Bill
