Title: 20 years ago today...My Anniversary Bow
Post by: Mike Vines on August 01, 2010, 09:45:00 AM
20 years ago today I spent my first day in the U.S. ARMY.  My mind always drifts to wonder where I might be now if I had stayed in.  To honor my 20th anniversary, I'm now the new owner of a 64" 59# @ 28" all zebrawood R/D longbow, and man does it spit the arrows out.  Look out GLLI, I have confidence, and a winning attitude (2 things my Dad and the ARMY instilled in me) I can just say...I'm feeling lucky.

I just feel bad cheating on my Hill bow, Wesley Special, But I think she will understand.  After 10 years we need a break.  LOL

I got up this morning and started staining a new dozen arrows in antisipation of watching one of the feathered shafts sticking out of a sucking chest wound.  Knowing that what I started learning as a kid, from my Dad, and honed by the U.S. Military, all came together for that split second decision before the tension of my right hand loosened to let the newly crafted arrow find its home.

Thanks Dad. I wish you were here to still enjoy it with your Grandsons and I, and least we forget the added thanks to Uncle Sam.  For all you do, this bow is in memory of both of you.

Pretty cool Mike,
I joined the 10th Mountain Division as an infantryman on August 10, 1993. Like you I wonder where I would be and what I would have seen if I had stayed in. I went to a sendoff ceremony today for my kid brother who is headed to Afghanistan with the Mass National Guard. Good luck with your new bow this year.
Jim

sorry, but she's staying in the collection.  It was the first bow I ever had custom made, and each of my boys will shoot it one day...If they want to.
