Thought you guys would appreciate this photo. These dudes hit it hard every year. I have watched these guys some of them from when they were kids. (http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac45/massaro-60/P1000627.jpg)
whats the deal with the suspenders? old/new fashion statement?
I would not fit in with that group shot at all.
Not because of the suspenders though.
Im a lefty and would throw the symmetry off way big.

They're Amish
so exactly what are they doing? a salute of some sort?
now i'm really confused.
They are really good.I watched the kids shoot.Looks like they were shooting at the elk they had set up the hill 100-150 yards.
They're shooting aerial targets!
Looks like just plain ole fun to me.
Makes for a great picture.
Thanks for showing us.
God bless,Mudd
now that makes sense with the fluflu arrows.thanks.
the amish here arent allowed to have their picture taken..but anyway cool pic,,the amish here are pretty hardcore hunters, trad bows,shotguns,muzzleloaders,compounds..i remember taking our horses up to get shoes put on and went in to his shop and there was a compound laying against the wall,i said what the heck is that, chris said oh just bought that at the time it was a new mathews lx..
Tony Ward I do not know what your issue is but I would appreciate if you would keep your very offending comments to yourself. Mudd thanks for the comment on the photo.
I agree with Mudd. That is one great picture. I wish my form was that good.
Looks like a Fine Group of Fellas havin Fun !!! I see alot of Amish @ the Baltimore Bowmen Shoot, FINE People !!!
I agree, Tony's remark was out of bounds toward very remarkable and devout people.
I was at Lancaster Archery yesterday and an Amish guy bought two compounds while I was there. Clearly, they like their archery.
what does that video have to do with the pic of the amish guys shooting??? Good way to get off topic, good going.
:knothead:
The amish are just like us, they live with self-imposed limits and just like trad shooters don't need/want people poking fun at them. Why get of the topic???
I saw one of the fellas at comptons and then saw the same guy at denton, that's dedication.
Folks as soon as I can get hold of a moderator I will have this post deleted. I have personally known this group of guys for the last 10 years. They are stand up traditional bowhunters and believe I have seen them shoot and they can shoot with the best. I thought it was a unique photo catching all of them at full draw. tom
No need to have the thread deleted - just a couple of the posts.
Great pic.
Hey Tony-
Whatever you were going for with that six fingered comment didn't work. It was neither funny nor witty. There are other forums that may welcome your type of humor.
tukudu, thanks for the cool pic. I worked with 2 brothers who grew up Amish but left that lifestyle. I learned a lot about the Amish from them over the years and gained an appreciation and respect for them and how they live within their means, serve the Lord, and are self reliant as far as fending for themselves with their growing of crops and hunting and fishing for their food. Most americans would be well served to apply some of that to their lives.
TonyW, your remarks and youtube link is pretty immature, not funny or witty in the least. Grow up.
Pretty cool picture!
I saw those guys a bunch of times and a group of teen boys from the community shot a round behind us. They were good kids and shot well.
When I was growing-up my best friends were Amish. My Dad worked in a Dairy in Cleveland and got one of the milk drivers to introduce him to someone for a place to hunt. So we ended-up becoming best of friends with one of the finest family's, among the best people a man could be honored to know in Middlefield, Ohio. Started out hunting, then we were out there 3-4 times a week and most weekends. We were all but family. I even spent a week or so each summer living with them until I started working. My Dad retired from the Dairy and moved out there and makes a living driving them around. They are serious, dedicated hunters, and travel all over the country hunting. My brother's father-in-law grew-up Amish, but did not join the church.
Tom,
Great picture of some good guys shooting. We have a guy right down the road here building some awesome bows (Mahantango) The craftsmanship is super.
Take care buddy and leave the post stay,it is an awesome picture.
Craig
Thanks for the support guys. I actually asked them if i could take the photo and laid down on the ground trying to get them all of them at full draw. The colored shirts the angle and all them nice roberston bows was real sweet through the eyes of the camera. thanks again. tom
It's a great archery photo. Amish don't neccessarily object to pics of themselves. My friends liked photos of themselves we took, and would often ask for a copy, which they kept in private, never displayed. We were on very close terms with them of course. It shows great consideration to ask them first of course, and they'll seldom answer in the negative.
Great picture. thanks for putting it up. Our country might be in better shape now days if everyone had some kind of values to live by and be held acountable for. Don
Thanks for sharing the picture. Awesome
These guys came by our Brothers of the Bow Booth many times. Each time buying a hat, flashlight or book. When they would come back, they would figure out who had which books and you needed to anty-up so that the whole group would have access to all of our reading. Very dedicated group and even the youngsters would come to ask questions of myself, Gene or Barry. Needless to say a strong family and tradition of bowhunting was on display. Mike
I live in an highly populated Amish area and are among the nicest people to have as neighbors. Thanks for sharing the photo!!!
If you think they can shoot go do yourself a favor and get youself a Hill Country bow built by Roman Hershberger who's also Amish. The three piece longbow I got is absolutely flawless and performs with the best at a very modest price.
Looks like they've found a way to expand their already traditional way of life. Seems quite logical to me.
Very nice pic Tom, I enjoyed it. Would sure love to visit the Amish country someday....
Lanier
Roman's wife bakes great cookies too Jake!
I'm glad I missed the garbage posts in this thread. I have alot of respect for folks who can still live a down-to-earth way of life in a world gone crazy. My best friend, Roman, is Amish and one of the nicest fellas you'll ever meet.
That pic is an instant classic. Thanks for posting it.
We use to hunt alot in Pike county Ohio. And got to know several of the family's that lived on the ridge we hunted.Great and very generous people.Alway's happy to see us and to tell us where the deer were moveing. And a few times helped us with getting deer out of some very tough terrain. If you ever get a to spend a little time with these folks take it.And there's nothing more refreshing on a hot day than Amish mint water good stuff.,Jim
I heard a bunch of those Amish fellas shot all the course's at Denton this year in a single day...
I shot three in one day and thought I was doing something...yea.
They got my respect...
I'm sorry....
I just don't understand why this has turned into an Amish thread.
good post and very good picture.
I agree with Don. well said batman
Dig the pic, cool culture for sure, I admire thier simple way of life.
Sure looks like my kind of picture - Full Draw - to the fullest, and some great form(s) there also. I also have had the pleasure of meeting some of the Amish gentlefolk at Baltimore and ATAR. Always found them fine folks to talk with and enjoy. The pic I certainly will save to be added to my Traditional Bows Drawn pages (on Page #21). I'll probably get it posted tomorrow AM, and thank you tukudu for taking and posting it. Also, what Don said!
I see the Boy's every year but always seem to miss them shooting. :dunno:
I wish my form was that nice.
Sweet picture there bud & thanx for sharing.
