i do not have a nack for sharpening, but i have some broadheads that need it. i've tried multiple ways and such with no luck. does anyone know of a place that you can send your broadheads to to get sharpended? i think this is my prefered choice. i shoot 2 blade magnus stingers. i have 6 that need sharpened for the upcoming season.
-
Ron at KME might do them for you. He does Grizzlys on a regular basis.
-
i'd be willing to pay a few bucks or trade to get the blades sharp again...
-
thanks, i'll have to message him.

I hate to sound like an old fart, but you're going to find that doing it yourself is the only way over time. It is not hard-sometimes we make it intimidating. If you can sharpen a knife you can sharpen a broadhead too. There are tutorials and videos on this site that are very helpful. And since ya' live in PA you have thousands of would be mentors near by.

KME knife sharpner

PM sent. I will sharpen them for you for the cost of return shipping. Been wanting to see how well Stingers sharpen anyway with my KME.
-
Stingers are hard to sharpen imho. I tell you what though... and some may disagree...clamp any blade in a Lansky and it's almost fool proof and will end up with a shaving razor edge.
-
If your Lansky works then the KME knife sharpener will work just as well, maybe even better :)

Send me 3 of the 6 and i' ll sharpen them on the Alaska Bowhunting supply Grizzly Wheel free and I'll eat postage. Just to give you another option. If you like or send me all 6.

Stainless steel can be intimidating to some people because it's perceived as being harder than carbon steel. It can be but in the case of BHDs not always so. Grizzlies are 54 Rockwell and the stainless blades of both Stingers and Muzzy Phantoms are no where near that hard.
The KME broadhead sharpener is the better choice for the Stingers/Phantoms because they come with a well ground factory bevel so there's no "grinding" to do, just a quick touch up. I can sharpen 3 Stingers in the broadhead sharpener in the time it takes to sharpen 1 in our knife sharpener.

PA stickbow..Ron offering to sharpen your heads is a real treat. great Stuff he can do. Jump on that offer with both feet. :) roll up your sleeves and learn this art when you can. no better site than Tradgangers to help you.....good huntin..

i have some grizzlies, i dont really use them anymore because it isn't practical for deer but, the only way that i have found to sharpen them is with a big 1/2" thick 14" long file. it peels the metal right off, giving that nice sharp edge. I'm not sure if this helps cosidering i have never shot stigers from magnus, but considering grizzlies are relatively hard to sharpen it might be worth a try.

This boy needs a mentor, anyone close to Kittanning Pa. Wish i was closer to you i would show you how.
-
That's right, 3arrows
You can't sharpen broadheads at the beginning of the season and expect them to stay hunting sharp more than a week.
You should find someone there in your area and learn to do it - you'll be a lot happier camper for it.
-
I never knew what the KME was before now. Just looked it up. I like that system. The kind of sharpeners I DONT like are the ones that peel the metal off parallel with the blade...the little V notched ones. No thanks. I want a true stone ground type sharpener like the Lansky/Gatco or KME sharpeners that sharpen perpendicular to the blade.
-
find a person in your area that sharpens tools.chisles, gouges or things like that.they can sharpen anything.they are also cheap.hope this helps, steve

Simmons sells a sharpening system for double bevel 2 blade head that is just about idiot proof. I can use it and watch TV. It is one of the best investments I have made. LCH

Thanks Guys! I appreciate all the input. After thinking about it some more, I think a good point was brought up. I really should learn how to do it myself. I think the KME is what I'm gonna try. I appreciate Ron offering to walk me through the process on the phone. I checked out some of those videos too. Doesn't look to hard & I think with some help I probably could do it. Thanks again for all the input & offers to help. TradGang is GREAT :clapper:

Axis Hunter: "I have some grizzlies, i dont really use them anymore because it isn't practical for deer "
Why not?

I agree with Bjorn and Sharpser. I'm lousy when it comes to sharpening, so I need a bracket. KME has a good one and if you can't get 'em sharp with that you might as well give up archery.
I just said on the Simmons thread - no guy being paid 10 buck an hour is going to bet MY broadhead, THAT I HUNT WITH, sharper than me.

This is so funny... I posted this same q many years ago when this board was brand new. Usual well-meaning replies, but one guy came at me so hard about how I HAD to learn how, it was unreal. Badgered me for weeks on email, finally had to block him, he wouldn't quit. :knothead:
I remember it well because I was transitioning to trad, and it soured me pretty bad at first. LOL but I got thru it. Glad you did much better than me this time, haha. :D

I was actually going to take some Tuskers to get sharpened at the local knife sharpener.
I have the KME sharpener and it works great on my STOS. I mean it is super fast to get them really sharp.
But the Tuskers have been a bit of a pain. Great broadhead that really hold an edge and are super tough. But it takes days for me to get one sharp. lol

Send me how many you got, 2 blades, double or single bevel, and I will shapren them razor sharp and the postage back is on me.
