Hey gang,
Just wanted to share something that I do when I bloodtrail in really thick areas or when I bloodtrail alone when the blood runs thin. I like to use TP to mark the blood trail. It's easy to use, bright, and biodegradable.

In a really thick area, I like to place the TP on top of the bushes. It gives me a nice line of sight and it helps to point me in the right direction. If I ever get disoriented, it's really easy to pick up the trail again.

In open areas, you can just drop them next to the drops of blood.
Even though it's biodegradable, I always try and go back to pick up the TP.

This can be the end result of a successful TP blood trail.

Stalker Recurves Strikes Again!

That is how my father taught me many years ago, and I still use it today. Simply a great way to mark a bloodtrail, lasts for a few days and in a week it is part of the earth again.
Plus you can just drape it on most vegatation and the leaves/sticks grab ahold of the TP and it is stays put for the most part without alot of effort.
Great Pics!!

Have often thought about this but never tried.
The TP can be "re-purposed" for other needs as well!
-
Been using it for years.Cannot stand hanging that plastic flagging tape in my beautiful woods.Kip
-
Nice tip, and pic's
-
jcar315,
"re-purposed" is right! :D
My friend calls it American Express, "never leave home without it"
-
Works for me.
-
That's the second reason always have a roll in my pack.
Congrats on the pig!
-
I do the same and it works out great.
-
Also helped me to get back out before GPS.
-
Gotta say that blood trailing is the only reason I keep it in my pack. Way to spoiled to wet wipes for the obvious reason one carries it.
-
The TP thing for blood trailing works great and leaves no clutter in the woods. Also TP is dual purpose.........James
-
I buy those little camping TP kits they sell at Wally world. The rolls don't have a hole in them, so they are more compact. They even include a little plastic dispenser.
-
works great for blood trailing but it is also great as a poor mans GPS and from my experience with GPS more reliable.
-
I have used tp for blood trailing; and it helps too; when you want to find your way back to where you started - safely. A gps can lead you off a cliff...

It could be a long way to waddle with your pants down !!
-
Ain't a gonna be any waddling as long as I have a knife. Might come back with no drawers, or one pant leg or shirt sleeve shorter than the other, but not going to waddle.
-
Even though it's bio-degradable, I still 'back track' to pick it back up.
I've even gone back the next day in the daylight to pickup the TP left as a trail marker. It's sometimes interesting to go back and follow the trail the next day just to get a feel of the path traveled. I for one can get 'confused' at night even though the one place I hunt is just a half mile long and no more than 50 yards wide in places. I've hunted it for almost 37 years and while I know it well, following the small beam of a flashlight in the dark of night can sure play tricks on you.

Has to be one of the best tricks in my bag.
I have to admit I never thought about telling the world. I guess I thought everyone already knew it.
Thank you for making up for my short comings.
I've always been happy that I had TP in my pack...lol
God bless,Mudd

I've used it almost every time we have been bloodtrailing in my hunting area here in Norway.
It is a really good way of tracking in stead of the plastic stripes on trees etc!
-
Multitasking
-
We call it mountain money. In the mountains, it's worth more than money. Gary
-
great tip thanks.i use orange ribbon i get from the jobsite.works great, but you have to pick it up when you are done.
-
I also have been using tp for years, works great, nothing worse than being in the middle of trailing and always looking back and wondering where that little speck of blood went that you had only spotted moments before!
-
Do the same thing on tough blood trails.
-
I have done it many times myself, it works well.
-
good thinking and goos shooting.
-
you can dab a piece of toilet paper on the ground;(I have even wrapped one hand in it- like a mitten) and it will show blood you might have missed otherwise...
-
Another way to spend "Mountain Money" and a great idea at that.
-
TP= Tracking Paper never leave home without it, like said above dual purpose and I'm too poor now days to keep buying socks. :D
-
Very cool bro, congrats on another nice hog :clapper:
That's how I was taught to track blood...TP is good stuff!
-
Thanks for the tip!
-
Yep me too, put a small piece of TP twisted around the end of a limb is just as visible, and less obtrusive.
Looking back and seeing a q-tip on a branch or blade of grass every few feet, works well for me.
Get into a public area with everyone dropping sheets of TP can be less than a pleasing experience, and the wind is less likely to misplace a q-tip vs a sheet.
-
Thanks for the positive replies!
I guess great minds think alike! :D
Aloha!

Yep, been using it to mark blood trails for about 44 years now. Nothing better.
-
Lots of years using the TP trailing method.
-
That is something new i will want to try this year! Thanks
-
Hey Ryan,
I was taught that a looong time ago when I went through mandatory hunter ed. Works great every time and so does that Stalker it seems! Aloha
-
My son shot his first buck with a bow last Sunday the shot was a double lunger but it was a little high so not much of a bloodtrail i remember reading your post so i wipped out the tp and showed my youngest how to mark his bloodtrail i want to thank you for that info and i past it on to a younger archer
-
Been using it for years to track.Especially when im tracking by myself.Works great.
-
TP sure works better than pages out of the old Sears catalog. :)
-
My 6 year old grandson, Ben, kept asking me, "Paw-Paw, why do you keep toilet paper in your truck all the time?"
So, I took him with me to set up some stands last fall. He learned first hand why Paw-Paw keeps toilet paper in the truck. And I didn't even have to tell him. :saywhat:

I do that and i also use bright eyes when im tracking one at night.
-
I also use toilet paper for blood trailing. along with my GPS and those plastic glow sticks that you flex and they start to glow. another good trick is to keep a spray bottle in you vehicle filled with hydrogen peroxide. if things get really tough you can spray those little red spots and if they foam up you know its blood.
-
TP is all I've ever used. It's also a great way to tell if the little drop you're looking at is really blood.
-
Ryan, very nice pig! Been using TP for a long time, great tip, thanks for passing it along. Aloha.

Reason I don't generally carry any is it's only use is blood trailing. Unscented wet wipes are backcountry baths and, etc...
But a great tip for sure. Though I personally don't follow those trails unless I laid them myself, could be less of a "blood trail" and more of a "bad smell"...
Good stuff.
