Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on ? It can't be felt on the surface of the limb. It is underneath the finish. The bow is less than two months old.

It appears to be whitish streaks.....or air underneath......or something ???

Was a rash of glass doing that for a while. Drove the bowyers using clear glass bonkers. Won't hurt the bow other than looks.
Thanks David......but would it be "acceptable" on a brand new bow ??? I'm thinkin' that I want the limbs re-finished....IF.....that falls under the "limited warranty".

Can't be refinished. Would need new limbs. Truly clear glass is getting hard to get consistently.
Dave, you haven't paid attention to Don's pics he has posted in the past, he always has great looking bows that shoot great. I'll bet that one gets fixed/replaced or goes down the road.
Yep, bad glass. Seen plenty of it and like Dave said, it's hard on a bowyer too frustration wise. Having material costs into a functional bow that won't sell has to be irritating.
It mostly shows up on dark stained veneers and after the bow has been cured. Won't affect the life of the bow, just looks ugly.
To me......it would be "acceptable" on a used bow.........BUT.......not on a brand spankin' new one. Gonna have to call the bowyer and see what he's willing to do about it.

Don was it there when you first got the bow or has it appeared just lately? I would think if it was a glass issue than the bowyer would have noticed it before even spraying the finish. If it is happening after you received it and shot it a while I would be concerned.
Terry
I have had a few that had a lot of years behind them show a few of the light stress lines. But nothing like that, even on some that are 20 plus years old, and never on a new one.
I would think he would take it back or fix it being that it is that new.
Just my 1 1/2 pennys worth

Terry,
I didn't notice it when I received the bow, but it could have been there, you have to have the lmbs in the right light to notice it. Actually it is the worse in the areas that the limbs flex......THAT concerns me. Anyone that knows me.....knows that I unstring my bows and keep them in soft fleece cases on my bow rack.
To make it worse.......I just received a longbow from the same bowyer a few weekends ago and upon looking it over closely this evening, it is doing the same thing. I know that this will be a real "pain" for the bowyer, but these both are NEW bows......not used and I have spent right at 2 grand for them. I'm not mad.......just kinda "bummed out" and don't like being in the position that I'm in. That being said, I will contact the bowyer and see how he would like to proceed with the matter at hand. He's probably gonna be pi*s*d.....but I haven't done anything to cause this except shoot the bows.

I know you well my friend and you take great care and pride in your hunting equipment.......I hope all works out well for you.
I am in the same boat, I have a bow that started showing them at about 4 mo. old, also in the stress points, mine are more like bubbles than lines. I am going to take it to the bowyer and talk to him, I am thinking the same way. I went for my particular bow because the bowyer is a master craftsman, but I did not get that product, also not mad just bummed.
Bocote is a very oily wood and I have seen those specs show up on the limbs on different bows. Nothing you can do about it.
Joe
Bacote may be oily, but I have a couple with bacote limbs including my Kwyk Styk, and a beautiful rf/df longbow made for me as a gift by a good friend... Neither of them appear to have the problems these pictures show in the above post. :wavey:
He's busy building bows for 3 of my customers...I'm leaving him alone! :saywhat: :jumper:
I emailed them up quite a while ago...They were nice....no go kill a nice whitetail with the Kwyk Styk and email me the pics... :dunno:
This will really bum you out when it happens. There are also white streaks through the glass that have not cracked. The back of the bow is fine.

So......bottom line for me.....Is it covered by the bowyers advertised "limited warranty" ???
Winterhawk1960
You need to contact your bowyer to find out.
Should be! It definetly seems t be a materials/production issue. Best thing to do for him might be to send them to camodip and get the uglies covered up!
ttt what if he likes the color and doesnt want camo?
Good point......chuckbow !!!!!
Guys,
I just talked to the bowyer and he said to send the limbs and riser back to him......never hesitated a moment in telling me this. He said NOT to shoot the bow anymore and that he would build another set of limbs for me.
Now that is the way that a bowyer should service his product. I won't hesitate for a moment to purchase his product again.
Thank-You........one and all for your most valued opinions.

Good to hear its being taken care of.
oil in bocate. . . does not hurt anything really. I have been told by those who work with it, that it can be a pain at times.
Glad the bowyer is caring for it. This is where painting it black plays a role as some companies have done.
Winter, Glad to hear that the bowwer is going to standup to his product...
When you get the bow returned and happy with your bow, would you please tell who the bowwer is so maybe more of us will send him orders for bows.
This is the type of info that I tend to look for when getting things built for me...Good product but better service..
Later.....Buzz
Winterhawk...if I hadn't already seen the pics my first question would have been is it bocote? I have had several bocote limbs and every single one of them has some degree of this.
Something about bocote being a very oily wood and sometimes the oil keeps the glass from adhering. Won't hurt anything, but yeah it sucks.
Are they bocote?
