Anybody else gonna be huntin the opening of archery in the south zone of Florida? It opens on Saturday July 31st?
Looks like you are the only one Legend. Stay cool and I hope the mosquitoes don't get you!
I predict Marty will have the first legally taken whitetail deer in the United States for the 2010-11 hunting season
Go get them bud.
I'm up in Tampa and won't be hunting til Sept. You gotta want it bad to go after them in this heat.
Hopefully, I will be out there. The heat has been pretty bad.
I'm planning on feasting on fresh backstraps Marty :readit:
I'll be in the stand at 5:30 am sharp!
If I was living in Fla. I would be after`m.Would be a great chance to get a velvet buck I would think.RC
I'm not a millionaire or rancher so I don't have a place to hunt deer in the southern zone.
(tongue in cheek)
As far as I know, the WMA(public lands)open later.
If I could, I would be out there.
The reality is, it's just as hot in September here.
I have to wait until it cools off on Aug 15th to deer hunt in SC :D
Marty its hot in Florida in the winter , you should be used to it . And if the rut is in August than there's no better time to be out there . My Son is trying to get me to move down there but if I did I know if the season was open I would go hunting and probably die . That said it's been hotter in Jersey than Florida these last few weeks but our season doesn't open for awhile .I work outside in this heat but not by choice , Fred
I was looking forward to being there as the sun came up. But my wife must have deleted the invitational emails that Marty and Swampdrummer sent me. That's the only reason I could have possibly missed them. :D
Well, you boys will just have to go at them without me. And remember to Bring'em back dead.
I'll be sitting here sharpening broadheads for September.

I'm neither one of those either (not even close)- I just have my monetary priorities out of whack for hunting- can't take it with me!
Whip- man you are pushing it!! Backstrap uh. Usually my guest bring me some Maine Lobsters or the equivalant. Bring lots of arrows- hogs abound! Peanut hates to trail hogs in deer season-so practice-practice-practice!
Best of luck swampdrummer-we're probably within 20 miles of each other. I'll send the skeeters over to check on you.
Not sure I can compete with Maine lobster. But I can bring some great Wisconsin cheedar. Maybe we can have ham and cheese sandwiches. :D
I've been practicing as much as I can. Hope to leave Peanut to relax in the air conditioning ;)
Grilled swiss and ham- that'll do Whipper!!! It'll be here for ya know it!
Git 'em, Marty... but leave Peanut in the A/C. (Gotta look out for Man's Best Tracker.) Hope you have a great early season, AND that you survive it!!

Thanks Marty, Same to you. But you can keep your skeeters on your side of the county! I'm considering dual thermacells! :scared:
Your getting to hunt a full month and more earlier than me..No way I`m feeling sorry for you in the heat... RC
Dang Marty, I got Maine lobsters...hint, hint :) Doc
Yeah RC,. Truth be told its no hotter right now than it will be come September. Avg daily temps are within a degree or two between now and Sept.
But we are getting to hunt the rut down here for the first time. :)
I'm thinking of coming down and hunt my old stomping grounds J.W. Corbett for a couple of days, outta be decent now that they got the season lined up with the rut.
Good luck fellas!!
Good luck guys. I'll be hunting hogs over labor day in central florida and I can't wait.
Craig I think the July start dates for Section A don't apply to WMA need to wait until Sept. to hit Corbett.
Post the pics and get the hides off quick in that heat. You'll be grilling backstraps while most of us are scouting and sharpening up the broadheads.
Good luck....can't wait to see the pic's and read the stories. Got to wait til Oct here.
Good luck Marty!
I hope to get on some pigs when I'm down there in August.
:archer:
One day and a wakeup!!! Opening day fever- ever get it?? I feel like a kid again. Thank God for caller ID-cause I ain't answerin tomorrow unless it's a camp member!!!!!! Won't need a flashlight in this full moon Saturday am that's for sure. Lunar table says best hunting is in the afternoon. If you're gonna be dumb-ya gotta be tough. I'm usin those light weight camo pants that unzip into shorts!!
Good luck and post up some pics. Leave the thermacel at home and I`ll be impressed...RC
RC, I just finished CLEANING my thermacell! Sure don't want it going down on me Saturday am. They are THICK out there right now! Add too that a fresh crop of yellow flies and its not gonna be fun... Ahhh what amd I saying, Of course it'll be fun! :D
I've got the fever too Marty. Scehduled a dentist appointment for 1 pm tommorow so I can get out of the office early and head home to.... sharpen broadheads one more time? Don't know but I'll be ready come saturday am.
I pulled the memory card on my game camera yesterday and had 192 pictures in 4 days. Mostly the same 7 or 8 deer but they were moving all day long.
I've got one good buck that made a scrape about 12 yards from my stand and he is freshening it up after every afternoon thunderstorm.
Good stuff!
Come on Saturday! :bigsmyl:
Man, You guys are gettin' me fired up! I can just imagine how you guys feel  :archer2:
Wow, and to think we are still hunting hogs in Ga!
I'll be at my place this weekend but we're 45 minutes north of the your zone Marty so I won't be huntin deer. Got a friend coming up to catch snakes at night---need any?
Marty,
You could always have some camo body paint sprayed on you. That way you could just wear some camo shorts! Please do not post pictures if you decide to go with my idea!!
Good Luck!
Benjy
Good luck Marty.
I'll be waiting for Iphone pics...pics of your deer, not your getup just to be clear!
Forecast is for record highs! 96 degrees. Sumthin just ain't right. Might try the bodypaint with a thermacell suppository.
:scared: :biglaugh:
Good luck Marty!!
Tracy
that place is shot out.
Good luck Guys, Can't wait to hear the stories, I wonder which will be bigger, the mosquito or the deer? ;)
Can one shoot out of a giant tub of ice cream? We're all pulling for you..no pun intended. UB

More later!
Way to go Brad. Where is the follow up
Man July? and I thought it was hot hunting in Texas archery season.
Yeah brinkwolf. The state moved the private land archery back a month in order to get the season more in line with the rut down here. Next year it will be for public land as well. Really no hotter now than it is in Sept. But it is hot...
Way to go Brad,
From the looks of the arrow this should be a recovery. You may have the first kill of the 2010/11 season.
It was Harold ;)

My son killed a 9 pt this morning with his arrow launching device and release aid. My hunt was fantastic except for my shot placement. Just quit looking and am sick.
Sorry to hear that Marty. Even Peanut couldn't find him?
I sat this evening and the skeeters definately made up for thier lack of attendance this morning!
Congrats to your son!
Marty ,
Bummer on the no recovery.
I was on our place huntin snakes with a well known marine artist and we hit 104 on the truck thermometer around 3pm in a pasture. And we still found snakes.
Was your son's buck still in velvet?
No, velvet was just off, in fact, the antlers were kinda pink! Goin back tomorrow and look some more for mine. Still bummed.
Look skyward. That is how I have found some of my lost hogs.
My son and I took off work today and drove 2 hours back to camp to look. We almost gave up, but found the deer after 2 1/2 more hours of searching. I think it was almost 1/2 mile from shot- maybe not- I will use GPS this weekend and figure. It is relief to find it, but still really upset with shot. I have relived it many times. I'm sure I did not pick a spot. Not sure if I will post pic's yet as it is 3 days old in 100 degree weather- nasty. I will review them tonite- but it is a great animal for South Fl for sure. It is on the trail camera thread- the 8 pt along with my son's 9 pt in the same photo. I love our sport and it sure brings out ALL our emotions!
:bigsmyl:
Congrats Marty.
Way to stick with it Marty.
Page 13 of Trail camera thread- First 2 bucks. My son took 9 point- I took the 8 pt. It was his first opening day since he went into the Marine Corp in 2004! He also took a doe. It is great to have him home again!
I went back and looked them up before you posted this last post Marty, Two fine Bucks! I believe I called them Fl Elk!
Glad you at least got some closure on yours.
Thank your son for his service for me. Bet its great to have him home!
Congrats again buddy...the relief in your voice today was very apparent...way to stick with it man :clapper:
Congrats Marty ! Always endeavor to perservere . They would be good bucks around here . Glad you are enjoying time with your Son .
Marty, Can't think of anything better than hunting with your son! Congrats to you both...Doc
