So it's getting close to go time for some of us. A bit over 3 weeks. Time to start sharpening broadheads and fine tuning, and tinkering. Also time to start hitting the high country here in UT and throughout the west.
I love hunting elk, but there is something about a group of bucks skylined at 10,00 feet that really get s me going. And right now I can't stop thinking about the velvet racked bucks in the high country. So this is for all of us going and some of you dreaming about mulies. Please post your kill shots and other pics.

I like that one walkin'away with the does. I will be looking for one like that the 4th of Sep. in WY.and hope to be able and show Ray another big smile in a picture.
Mike
That Non- typical is really neat.......I like the weird ones...lol!
Great picks guys :bigsmyl:

Kiefer you need to head south! :D
Yeah I know. I hear theres a million people though! :bigsmyl: Round where we hunt, your countin yourself lucky if you shoot a spike.

Wow! the mass on that one is unbelievable!
I have yet to pursue this species with anything else but a camera. One day...(hmm, thinking)
Good luck to you guys!

Never seen a Muley in the flesh before.
Long live the Mule Deer!
Great pics...best of luck to everyone who chases them!!!
A nice muley is my next quest. Got 5points built up in CO and am looking at spots in WY, MT, and ID to start going every year. Awesome photos--Thanks Ryan!
Looks like it could be a lot of fun. Nice pics everyone.
Man I can't wait for my trip...Leave Sept 1st for WY. Got a cow elk tag in my pocket but will be on a quest for my first trad mulie! 34 days AWAY!!!
Its elk for me this year, but I am thinking hard about UT muleys next year. We'll see if I start drawing some elk tags. Don't forget right now is WY pref. points period!!!
Ryan, you don't have an LE tag this year do you???

Sept.1st it starts 2 months of probably the best darn Mule deer hunting in Southern Saskatchewan.I usually hunt all season and I think in 5 or 6 years I,ve never seen another hunter. Not uncommon to see 40-50 deer a day.Lots of 140-180" deer.
I would love to hunt canada for mulies. No LE nate, but I did draw a cow moose tag.

Those buck are awesome! Nothing like trying to get around a group of Mule deer slowly feeding across a side hill in the hopes of getting a good shot, great pics, I'm counting the days!
Nice. Someday I'll get out there during the fall.
Mule deer are the toughest animals I have ever hunted, hands down. I accumulated 10 empty tags before finally putting number 11 on this one. And it's not like I was holding out and passing up little ones - they are just tough with a stickbow!
Since I'm 0 for 2, looks like I've got atleast 8 more good hunts to enjoy before I can retire from the muley game. Love that pic, Whip.
Here is a couple, I like the pics without me better. I don't even know if I will get to hunt deer in my own state this year, didn't get my draw tag and am waiting to see what leftover tags are available.

Fantastic pictures!!!!! Hopefully I'll have something to post here after I get back from my western North Dakota hunt the end of September. Will be my 4th try for a mulie.....always seem to mess up somehow.
Awesome bucks guys! Whip, I couldn't agree with you more. I missed a fairly easy shot at a monster nontypical back in the late eighties and although I have shot several smaller bucks since the big one is still eluding me. Maybe this year!
If everyone keeps showing pics like these I don't know if I can wait! Whip ten years for a buck like that is worth the wait, most locals never shoot one that nice bow or gun. Most of my good mulies pics are on slide film but here is a few form the winter range last december. Notice the one still in velvet. Joe, That was such a awesome buck. I would like to read the thread again what was the title??
Great picks everyone  Very impressive deer Mark :)

December, 1995 in Idaho.
This guy showed up in the back yard just after rifle season, last year. saw him last week, same type of rack only looks to be bigger this year. (http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae298/bfreese_2010/IMG_0099.jpg)
Great thread steadman nice pictures by all !
Tracy, danged if I can remember what the title of that thread was :knothead: Just spent 20 minutes trying to find it and came up empty. I'd like to go back and read it again myself.
I told you mule deer are tough! Can't even find a thread about a hunt :banghead:
Great pics guys, I'll be lookin' for a good one up in the Bitterroots come September.
These threads are so cool...somebody post a "Whitetail Only" thread and we'll see Steve H with a FULL mane :D
Somebody post a "seal only" thread and we won't see anybody BUT Steve H!
I thought about "going Native" so I could arrow seals.....
Hey Ryan I'm leaving sept. 24 for my annual Wyo. trip, this will be my first all trad year, wish me luck I may need it.
From Whip "I told you mule deer are tough! Can't even find a thread about a hunt" :biglaugh:
I will do some more looking tonight Joe and send you a link if I find it. :)

Here is my addition...same one that is in my avatar.

I find the most interesting piece of the whole tread to be this quote:

Alberta and Saskatchewan are well known for our large whitetails. Not as well known is that me have a large number of trophy mule deer as well. I have heard that someone arrowed a buck that may be as high as top 5 in P & Y this fall.
For example, I was looking at a picture of a 170 class buck a young fellow who works in Wholesale Sports in Saskatoon had shot. I noticed it was a 4X3 and when I mentioned it to him he said that he would not have taken the shot if he had been able to see that it was not a 4X4. Wouldn't you like to hunt in a place where someone would turn down a buck that scores 170. For another example I saw a nice 4x5 buck right on the edge of the small town where I live just yesterday. Had I realized that he was outside the town limits I would have sought permission from the landowner and put a stalk on him.
I still have 3 days to hunt in archery only season and I am hopeful that I will see him again.
DDave
Good luck Dave! Alberta muleys are a dream for me. I would love it. Hope to see pics in the next couple days!
Something about them that gets in your blood, I bumped my first mulie buck in Wyo last year trying to get close to a doe for a shot. Needless to say one encounter was all it took..I'm going to CO in search one next year! Hopefully I will start going every year.
Yep,Big'uns in Canada.A couple years ago the son of a good friend of mine asked if I could set up his new bow and arrows for him I said sure.after it was all said and done he asked what do I owe you ?,I told him the Liver.Four weeks ago he shows up with the liver and pictures of his new Mulie,196" net! What a hog,I'll try to get pics.
TTT! Love seeing good mule deer. I'm torn every year if I should go to the pastures and chase mule deer or go to the creek and sit in a tree for whitetails. Lets see some more pics!!!
Well I said on the Antelope thread that goats were my favorite critter to stalk but these are a very close second. We are fortunate in MT to be able to hunt Mulies during their rut the last half of Nov. If you can hold out that long it just don't get much better than that.

Good luck you guys!! I didn't draw this year so I have to watch from the sidelines. Mule deer is my second favorite animal to hunt. I will be elk hunting though. They are my favorite. Gary
Now Ya'll have got me SOOOOOO riled up. I don't have good elk spots(yet) but I know where some big mule deer live... Ugh. Thanks for throwing my September all out of whack! I gotta convince myself that elk are worth it all over again.
wow! I would love to stalk one of those beautiful animals !

My son is about 40yds from this buck in his stocking feet trying to close the distance but a bedded doe on the backside of the hill saved his bacon!! This pic was taken in the Sandhills of Nebraska on the ranch my son works at in the summer.
Steve
Where I hunt, we have both mulies and whitetails, so whichever steps in front of me first gets the arrow. Good hunting to all of you!
Big ol' mossback mulies are at the TOP of my list....
Good luck you mule deer hunters!
Keep the wind in your face!
Shoot straight, Shinken

Ahh good luck to everyone this year! Very jealous!
Ill be state side next year to hunt them, and the wait is killing me!
Great pics and some great bucks guys!
Couple toads Jake!! Good luck with em!!
Thanks Ryan!
Hope you score on a huge elk this year...that tag you have in your pocket is a dandy!
Looking forward to your hero pics!
Awesome deer guys! These are on my list so hopefully soon. I've got a big list!
Love spot and stalk for mulies! Loving all the pics guys, that first one that Steadman posted always make my heart skip a beat!
Leaving for Nevada to spot and stalk muley bucks in 5 days...oh boy! Keep those pics coming. Talk about fueling the fire!

Idaho muley ... the absolute best stalk I have ever made, hunting the sage brush last day of the season.
That is a beauty Kenny! How did the surgery go?
Hey David good to hear from you,Doc says it went well and I am feeling good. I will be off my foot eight weeks so right now that is the hardest part. Our early bow seasons start in a few weeks and I will miss that season entirely, but hopefully I'll get a wack at them in late November.
best to ya, kenny
Sounds great Kenny! Anybody have more mulie photos to share?
NICE! I can't wait for Sept 1st
I was hiking with my wife in Gallatin National Forest, saw a real nice 4x4 but didn't have a camera with me. Hoping to get a deer b license, found a good couple places to chase after whitetail....but next year will be all muleys for this guy! Antelope elk bear and hopefully mountain lion and turkey as well :) I love Montana!!!
I can't think of a more grand hunt than for mule deer in the Rockies.... I long to go back.
Great pics everyone, I've only spent a long weekend chasing mulies one season but I loved every second of it. I'll go after them again one day.
Great photos, thanks for sharing.
