I recently purchased me a Foley longbow from another tradgang member.Best shooting bow i've ever owned.I can consistintly shoot 2 1/2" groups at 20-25 yards.I let a guy at the local bow shop shoot it yesterday. He instantly offered me over doulble of what i paid for it.What would you have done?
Sell or Keep it.
After hearing yal input i'll let you no what was my desicion. :archer2:
If the woods in the one you have weren't exactly what you wanted, I'd take the profit and get on the horn to Mr. Foley and get one just like it in the woods of your choice.
KEEP IT!!!No amount of money is worth it when you find that "magic bow" :readit: Thats just mu opinion though
If you sell and it is as good a shooter as you say as you will regret it down the line. KEEP IT.
Keeeeeep it
Just from my experience I have wanted back every good shooter I have traded away.
Keep it !!!!!!!!!!! They aren't all "exactly" the same.
Winterhawk1960
If you dont need the money:
Keep it!
But if you need them.. Well there is a lot of other good shooters out there!
Margly
Keep it if it works for you better than other bows. If you don't every time you have an "off" day with a replacement bow you may think back to this one.
As you're counting the cash begin speaking of what a nice comfy ride your auto is and the many benefits of living in your particular home, and and and....... :bigsmyl:
I would keep it and tell him where to get one "just" like it. It doesn't sound like he is worried about throwing the cash down for a new bow anyway.
Or...shoot it for a week and see if it is still "the one" or it was just novelty. If the effect wears off, so to speak, then sell it.
Keep it!!!!
I would never sell any bow that I could consistently shoot 2 1/2" groups with at 20-25 yards. I shoot pretty well and can shoot groups that small at times, but not "consistently" if that means more than 50% of the time. That is a very small group. Most compound bow archers using sights would be happy with those groups. I'm not sure Rick Welch consistently shoots any better than 2 1/2" groups at 25 yards, and he is the best barebow shooter I have ever seen. Congratulations on both the bow and your shooting ability.
Allan
Sounds like you've found "The One".Keep it! :archer2:
Keep it
I don't know what you should do--only you know that and already did it, but it sure amuses me that almost everyone says "keep it" and then on threads asking about how good brand xyz is, the overwhelming majority of posts seem to be to the affect "I HAD one of those and it was as smooth as a baby's butt, etc., etc.,...." So lots of guys are selling lots of bows that they highly recommend to others. Just gives me a good chuckle ;)
Win win either way.
If you keep it, you have a great shooting bow, if you sell it, you make a profit.
Makes the decision easy for me, just sell it...OR keep it...or sell it...OR keep it.
Because after all, it`s a great shooting bow, but there is profit too! :banghead:
If I liked how it shot that much I would probably keep it. Then again, it would depend on exactly how much money we're talking about and how my financial and bow situation was.
Iv'e got high dollar custom bows that shoot great and and lower end productionbow so to speak that shoot really good.
One of my best shooters is a bear montana and although I don't shoot it often when I pick it up it puts them where I look and I just can't part with it.
If I got a really good shooter I'll keep it unless I get homeless or something pretty drastic.
JMO only you can decide what is best for you.
SOLD IT!!! you can always find another gem every bow you buy before the next one is always the best.
YOOUUUUULLLL BEEEE SORREEEEEE!!!!
Bill
Keep it
Money comes and goes. Great shooting bows that "fit" you perfectly, on the other hand, aren't as easy to come by as cash.
Well hears what i did.I kkkkkeeeeeepppppptttt it.Couldn't dare get rid of a bow that shoots this good.Hears what i was offered.Bought the bow for $275.00 and i turned down $600.00
Figured even if i bought another Foley longbow it would not shoot as good knowing my luck.
The guy that wanted it was only going to shoot 4-5 shots with it.Needless to say when it shot where he was looking that turned into about 30-35 shots. Was great to know that a trad bow was so appreciated in a shop full of cams and wheels.Oh ya, almost forgot to mention i shot my 1st round of techno hunt with my longbow.Had a blast. Now i'm ready for some real furry critters.
Thanks for all the comments. Now i know i made the right decision. :archer: :clapper: :clapper:
Shooting it that well....I say hang on to it as long as money not an issue.
Wow! Consistently hitting a 2 1/2 inch target, you better have kept that bow. A tennis ball measure 2.7 inches in diameter, so if you can consistently hit something smaller than that at 25 yards, not much to think about!
Congrats on finding a bow that you can really shoot!
keep it
If it will give me 2 1/2" groups at 25 yds....Ill give you $750.00.

I would keep it and enter every longbow competition you can. You would win them all by a large margin.
I would try and get my hands on another to see if it is just like it. If not I would keep it. I have had bows I shot real well then traded or sold them because I wanted a different weight, different woods or something only to find the new bow's grip just wasn't the same or the feel of the bow was not the same, and I just didn't shoot it like the other.
If you are shooting those kind of groups, I would keep the bow and enter every competition I could find!
Keep the bow and keep shootin great...
Nothing can replace that..
and you would only regret selling after the money is gone...
KEEP IT!!!!
what I think don't matter, so I want say, do what you think is right for you.
Seller's remorse. Avoid it.
That all depends two things:
1) Does my wife know how much I paid for the bow?
2) Did she hear the offer?
A yes to both of those questions either means a sold bow, or a nice present for my lovely wife! :)
Yep, keep it.....
KEEP IT !!!!!!!
Defintly going to keep her.I made this mistake once before.Had a acadian woods 3 piece recurve 54lb@28" that i had traded.I'm still regreting it.I think the reason i shoot my Foley so good is that all my previous bows were 54lbs or better. This 1 is 47lb@28" very comfortable poundage to shoot.I had bought this bow for everyday shooting and 3D.Figured it would be less where and tear on my shoulders and joints.Man i'm sure loving it.Now its my #1 goto bow. Can't wait to be in the stand with her.
It sounds like a keeper to me!
What are you thinking, if it ant broke don't fix it
Keep it, no amount of money is worth selling a bow that has you shooting groups like that!
Keep it. Otherwise, you'll be able to add posts to threads here that start out "Bows I regret selling"...Been there, done that.
tell him three times what you paid for it, if he bites sell it... otherwise it wasnt meant to be
Glad to hear that, magic does not come around so often. Great choice!! :archer:
I think I know the bow you are speaking of. It was a great shooter and a looker to boot. I was actually shocked to see it go up for sale so quick after the previous guy bought it.
You could keep it and rent it to he store owner. It would be a win win for everybody :goldtooth:
I remember reading years ago that Rocky Miller, who made bows under the name Heritage Bows was quoted as saying that occasionally he would build a bow for someone that "he couldn't miss with" in his test shooting. He built some great bows, and obviously used the same formula for each one; however, even he admitted that there was "magic" in some. When I get a bow that I shoot that well, I keep it. Not all bows are created equal, even from the same bowyer.
I bought a Foley Take down longbow last summer and it is an awesome shooter. I wasn't going to buy it at first but my dad gave me some good advice:
"well you could save up and order one, but i've done that and the bow i got didn't shoot as well as the one I tried"
Last year i would have doubled my money to pay off some credit cards. This year i wouldn't be willing to do such a thing, lol.
I say unless the money is needed keep the bow, the regret of selling is probably more costly than turning down such a fantastic deal!
KEEP IT!! :readit: That Sounds like THE BOW FOR YOU!!! WHY RISK PASSING IT OVER?? Hey, Money isnt Everything. :dunno: Some things ARE Truely PRICELESS!! Take a Poll of the Folks here that have Sold a Bow, and have Regretted It Since!! :dunno:
keep it!! i would as i dont get to try many different bows like you guys can.
I'm bringing this thread back up, after doing some searches here for Foley.
I shot this particular bow just recently last week, it was almost Zen-like. And watched the owner shoot it as he says, he stacked 'em for sure. He ain't just whistling dixie.
It impressed me (and everyone else) so much that I'm thinking of getting one sometime later on, after chatting with Ron Foley recently. This particular bow just shot where you looked, something I've never quite experienced even with a few better bows, (mostly recurves).
If I could get assurance that a new Foley longbow just like this one would shoot the same, it would be a slam dunk, I'd do it tomorrow. But I gotta recon this a bit more.
What do ya'll think, would a copy by a great builder like Foley pretty much come out the same? I'd hate to spend major bucks otherwise. Looking for some warm fuzzy feedback here. LOL
ps: stickbowmaniac: I'm glad you kept it. Its easily worth twice that offer you got. Remember that...
I would keep it. that does not happen every day.
Good move!!!
;)

I would probably agree....even an exact match from Ron may not shoot/feel the same for you. I would probably keep it.....Oh who am I kidding! What about my reputation says I would keep it... :knothead: :D
I think you made the right choice.
If it still shoots that well for you after two weeks, it's worth more than $600, and it will save you far more than $600 in the long run.
Way more likely to keep it if I enjoyed the bow. Some bows are just plain fun to shoot.
keep it even the same model bow made with the same wood will be different thats why the are one of a kind custom bows!
money comes an goes GOOD BOWS DONT. KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no price tag on the ONE as far as I am concerned.Have let the ONE go twice, never again.
keep it
KEEP IT ! I had a guy look at my first Morrison, offered me what I had into it. I picked it up and headed up the hill about every 20 feet I went he would up the anti a $100.00. When I reached the top he yelled some huge amount and I went over the hill and never looked back.
I bought a Foley recurve from Ron last year. I can't say if he can build you a bow EXACTLY like the one you shot, but I can say Ron is a great bow builder.
I've read a number of positive comments about Foley bows. I'd take a chance and order one in the same specs as the bow you shot. JMO. Let us know what you decide.
I don't hardly ever sell anything. I guess that's why I never have any money.
id like to see some evidence of this 2-1/2" group shooter @25 yds. thats a helluva group for anybody! pictures!
Some bows will haunt you if you part with them. I had a Wilderness longbow best bow I ever had. That bow was a natural shooter for me. I regret parting with that bow to this day. I just looked at a spot and it seemed to draw my arrow from the bow to the spot I picked.
Many bowyer will tell you that not all bows are created equal--some will just come off the form and finish out especially sweet even when made from the same stuff as their other bows and in the same way, but for some reason they really can't explain one will stand out--what if your bow is one of those??? I would not part with it if you shoot it that well. My vote--keep it. :saywhat:
I hope you are still shooting the bow well. One strange thing I've noticed for me. It seems EVRERY new bow I come into I shoot great groups with it right out of the "box". Within a few weeks after the "new" has worn off I don't shoot it any differently than most of the other "old" ones.
Reckon that's why I'm 100% on buying "test-drive" bows.
Keep it! Sell him one of your other bows.
THere is an old saying, beware of the guy with only one gun, he probably knows how to use it. That kind of fits with bows too. If you find that "shooter", just use that one for everything, and you will get to know it so well that it's like part of your family. I have a black widow like that. Love it, became my everything bow. Before that I had 10 or more bows for everything. now, just one shooter.
Dfinately keep it! Jump on the phone and order another made as soon as possible!!
Glad you kept it, When you make a connection with a bow and it works with you, you keep it.
Number one , We don't know what you paid. Can you replace it with a new one for the price he is offering. How good a deal you got would make a huge difference. Other than those things. What the other guys said is true. If the bow fits its hard to sell it. LOL.
God bless you , Steve
Sell it and get one more challanging.
IF ITS FIXED, DONT BREAK IT,IF IT SHOOTS GOOD, DONT SELL IT,,,,
Keep it and go shoot the worlds with it and win, by the way. Shawn
I had a Seven Lakes that was "magic" in my hands and let it go. I regret it still.
Keep it. I am not a 100%, but I think I meet you in 96' if you are who I meet. You didn't sell the bow. By the way nice shooting and you have a keeeper bow.
