Today I found a Drake Recurve bow for sale, on the internet. Since I have been looking for my first recurve, I figured, since this is for sale, I can have a bow that is prettier, cooler, and rarer, for less money. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Drake bows, or any products from them. Any advise is appreciated

Harry Drake made fine bows. You don't hear much of him or his bows but he set many flight records during his time.
-
The Bow got to high too fast, I am not going to bid on it.

That's what happens when you inform the largest group of archery afficianados of the auction via the internet! :)

I owned one around 1960. The world champion field archer was shooting one at the time (Rube Powell) Best shooting bow with the best cast at that time. Biff

i've seen only two. one in harry ross' shop in national city and in rube powell's shop in chula vista...the one rube had was a foot bow for flight shooting and was for display only.
drake bows have been out of production for a LONG time.
if you want more info on drake bows you might try to contact C.R. Learn or Bill Cropp both of lakeside, ca.
m60gunner might shed more light on the subject as he's an old recurve affectionado.

I think Tippet just had one refinished by bowdoc. Honestly that's the first time I'd heard of them, but I'll keep my eyes out now. :)

Yep, Tippit's Drake that's been refinished is absolutely the finest example I've ever seen. Wish there were more on the market.

Donw, thank you for the compliant but I do not know much about Drake bows. I think he was already working for Browning when I came to CA. (1976). I do remember an article in an old Archers Digest about how C.R. Learn finished one of his blanks. If I remember rightly he said the bow followed Drakes style of flight bow. I guess if I was a collector one of his bows would be on my list. Maybe Tippit would post a pic of his refinished bow?

My new favorite recurve is the Li' Favorite Shrew. What's really neat are the profiles of the 54" Li' Favorite & the Drake Hunterflight! Do you think Harry knew what he was doing all those years ago. The Drake is an incredible recurve...now even better cause Bowdoc got his finishin' mitts on mine  Doc
