Title: Heading to TX for a pig hunt.. Need help
Post by: Cody Roiter on July 23, 2010, 07:41:00 PM
Hey Guys,
Every winter around Dec my grandma and grandpa head to TX for a few weeks.. I have never had time to go with them.. But it looks like this year I can :-)

Anyways I wanted to know what game can be hunted all year around.. I was sure pigs are one ???..

Also what broadheads and bow weight would be good bow set up for all around hunting TX game..

The two bows I'm thinking of taking is my Bear A-Riser 44# and my soon to be all bamboo backed boo Hill style longbow pulling 60#.. For arrows I'm thinking 23/64 for the Hill and Hill heads.. And for the Bear take down carbons with a Muzzy..

Any help or info as to where to go would be great guys..

Thanks,
 :archer2:

Cody hogs are always fair game in texas and javies through most of the winter months. Their should be some trad gangers along to give you some more advice.

Cody,

Deer season is still open into January (depends on region). Check out the following link:  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/   Be aware a lot of Texas is private.

As far as equipment, looks like what you are using is great. Good luck, and enjoy the great state of Texas.

What city will you be staying in and what timeframe?

Cody, the last pig I shot, I was using a wooden Bear arrow with a Bear broadhead sharpened as sharp as I could get it, the bow was a 40# K-Mag.  The arrow went through that pig so fast, I thought I had shot under him.  I was watching him trot away and cussing myself for blowing the shot when he stopped and then fell over.  I would use the bow I shoot best when I have to shoot quickly.  Bill

Where in Texas? Pigs are legal year round. Exotics also. Deer until February in some places. Winter is good small game hunting. Must have missed your 60# Hill. I'd shoot nothing else. Great bow for anything in Texas. If you can sharpen Hill heads use them.
