Guys and Gals do you buy new Hunting gear every year(the stuff you actually hunt with arrows,B heads,strings,fletching's,ect.). or do you just replace when needed.Do you feel more confident with new rather than the last years gear.If not new how old is your set up? Can you tell I am bored.
my normal hunting tackle is around 50 years old bd
Replace as needed, but I keep extra supplies around so I am sure to use the same feathers, shafts, etc...
BD, are the heads and arrows that old to?
about 22 years give or take.
I replace as needed.
I just replace as needed. Why swith out something that is still working well and proven in practice?
I usually replace them as needed;but new stuffs arrive here everyday,my home is a traditional archery pro shop.
I'm older than most of my stuff! :p
... mike ... ;) ...
My go to bow is a Blacktail Elite that is 12 years old
What about your arrows and heads?
My current hunting bow (Blacktail Elite) is 5 years old. Before that I used a Brackenbury Drifter for 20 years. I tend to have long lasting affairs with my bows!
I build a few new arrows or buy some new broadheads as needed.
This years is 25 plus
9 year old Black Widow SAV 62in long and 48 lbs at my 28in. draw . Love it so much Ive got a new PSAX on order so Ill probally sell the SAV to help pay for the new one when it gets here .
My hunting bow this year will be the 76 Super Kodiak, and the other stuff, I only replace as needed.
I also use an older Blacktail (13 years old) as my go to bow and replace everything else as needed. Although...I will be breaking in a new Blacktail this year....hopefully next month!! :goldtooth:

This year, new bow and new Arrowmaster quiver. That should be it for a long while. I need to get familiar with one weapon and quit tryin to switch around. Arrows will be 2018's that are layin around plus some new surewoods I just built. I will have some carbons by Sept. Broadheads will be 125 Ace from the classifieds on the woodies and the same Razorcaps I've been shootin for two years in either 125 or 150.
The same old stuff just replace as needed I like familier. Magnus 2 broadheads you see the bows I have had then all for about 3-5 years. Arrows I have tried to switch to carbon just like wood and aluminum, and replace as needed.
The bows are mostly late 60s/early 70s, with some selfbows thrown in that are much newer, but function like much older bows. Other stuff I replace as needed.
Mines in the mail right now...
My longbow has a wood-burned date of manufacture on it that is '8000 B.C.'
:p
Some old some new replace as needed. recurves 30 +years.
bow from 1959 broadheads 1963 and the arrows are forgewoods from the late 1950's and early 1960's bd
BD is your motto "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" I think thats great to be hunting with tried and true gear.Way to go :notworthy:
Bear bows from 1968 (Kodiak Hunter), and 1969 (Grizzly). Arrows as needed.
Using a 1964 Bear Grizzly with "64" Razorheads and cedars.
Replace as needed, I shoot Bear razorheads, not made anymore, so they gotta be old! :) My Bob Lee is about 15 years old, but I am in the process of having a new pair of limbs made, more than likley will continue hunting with the old ones though!
Once I find the setup I like I stick with it. Last years broadhead will work just as well as this years and so will my shafts etc. I quit all that constant testing when I left my short try at compound devices and have no intention to go there again. If it ain't broke why do I have to fix it? Frank
I use the same arrow every year,It's had four new broadheads, three new shafts,a couple of nocks and been fletched several times, but it's been a good one:) (sorry,I could'nt help myself)
Lpcjon2, another great idea for a thread!
I stretch out a new string. Replace as needed.
The bow will be around 50 years old. The broadheads likely the same, but haven't completely decided on that yet. Wood arrows.
Safety related gear is newer - 4 year old stand/harness.
Bought a new blind this spring that fits me and up to a 66" recurve plus a child or two.
backpacks tents bows all seem to be about 20yrs old or older. I was in a habit where I made at least 2 dz arrows a year, now I have a garage full. I just resharpen my heads.I do have a couple younger bows.
Just bought some danner pronghorns and a camelback pack to take elk hunting. Other than that all my gear will be the same old stuff.
Well, this year I'm hunting with a YEW selfbow...it was given to my inlaws in the mid 60's while workin' on the Alaska pipeline! Arrows and such just get replaced as needed or when I feel like it! Camping gear is about 10 years old....new boots last year.
My main hunting bow is forty years old, an old styleI B riser T/D but I'm currently using a set of Brandon Stahl's limbs on it, bow quive is around the same age, broadheads are 1964 Razorheads, and I shoot aluminum arrows- some as old as thirty years, some as recent as last year. I'm certainly not opposed to new equipment(like the Stahl limbs)but I really like the feeling of having an old friend with me at crunch time. GY
Since I am returning to traditional archery almost all of my equipment and accessories are new. I will be using new bow; arrow, quiver, broad heads, glove, etc. this season. I've been "testing" all this stuff since December.
Knowing how I am, I'm likely to change everything but the broadhead and quiver every hunting season. In fact, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if I don't use at least two different recurves during this coming season. I'm shooting 3 recurves interchangeably and will add another to the line-up next week when some weight-reduced limbs arrive for my Black Widow PSAIII.
I shoot a 22-target 3-D range I built in the woods out back at least every other day. I keep track of my effectiveness on this range with the various bows I'm shooting. All the shots are from 14-25 yards. In the next couple of days I'll put up a pop-up blind on this course and practice from it because I'm planning to come down from the trees a couple times this coming season.
