Our club is planning another shoot and we would like suggestions on what shots you have seen or really liked at shoots you have been to. Pictures would be great if you have them.
Here's an idea.
MAKE IT OR BREAK IT!
Set up a front tire with rim from a tractor or truck. Shoot for the hub hole. Make it or break (arrow). 20 yards.
How about an A frame ladder and a squirrel target at 20 yrds. You have to shoot from the top of the ladder( or ladder stand at least 15ft high)
Better check your club insurance before you use any elevated shooting platform. Would hate to see your club officers sued personally if someone falls. Our club was insured thru ASA and not covered for elevated platforms.........James
Make it or break it sounds like asking for unhappy shooters, destroy a few expensive arrows and the fun is gone. Here is a twist, hang a brick at 20 yards, shoot 3 arrows thur the holes and win a new Chevy Silverado.......James
PS...............4X4
I would like to see the clubs offer (beginers, kids, or new 3D shooters that are embarssed because they have not learned how to shoot good enough for the regular course)to walk around 3 or 4 targets with them and offer sugestions to improve there shooting at 3-D targets. Also to anounce anyone wanting help on there shooting meet someone at the practice bails. Ken
James do you have a new Chevy and a brick...LOL :archer2:
got to include some kind of aerial targets. It's always a crowd pleaser.
One shoot I attended didn't have seperate shooting stakes for compounds and trad. You only scored the 8 ring as a hit. But the furthest stake was 12 points the next stake was 10, the next 8, the closest was 5. If you hit a body shot (outside the 8 ring) it did not score.
Another one is a string shoot. If you have a wooded area this is quite fun. You have a starting stake for each target and there is a string attached to it. the string winds through the trees and brush and you follow it and look for the best shot. If you get to far and there is not a good window to shoot from you are screwed because there is no going backwards on the string.
Taiga, love that string idea, thats a good one.
I always liked the pingpong ball thing, where it floats on top a Shop vac air blowing out.
super long shots a great too, like a 70 yarder.
And ARchery Golf is an absolute blast, if you have that kind of room.
over under shots, where the only shot is off your belly, OR its 45 yards and you have to clear a limb halfway and have it "fall" into the kill zone.
enjoy
I liked clay pigeons on styrofoam heads, shoot the pigeon without hitting the head, (disqualifer), two man team shoots for time shooting at 5 of the above......loads of fun. from 15 yards.
Get rid of the stakes. It started somewhere and every one has kept doing it. Never placed my foot on a stake when I shoot any other time in all of life (neither hunting or practice!).
There is no need for a stake. No other sport; i.e. baseball, basketball (freethrows), golf, bowling etc. has a stake to place your foot on. No target archery range has a stake to put your foot on. One of the keys to good shooting in any of these sports is foot placement- why touch a stake? Just have a ribbon hanging from a tree, a 3' hoop on the ground, a line, or even standing within 12" of the stake. What difference does it make- let a guy stand, kneel, sit or whatever and shoot the way he always practices and hunts.
