I REALLY want a gray bow!! I've talked with Big Jim about dying or staining Tiger Myrtle, Tamo Ash, Waterfall Ash, Zebra wood, and Spalted Maple but the problem is no one knows how its gonna turn out. In my mind the Tiger Myrtle would look like an Aussie Shep, and the others would look great and match the tree bark perfect. Has anyone dyed or stained any of the woods above or even Curly, Quilted, or Tiger Maple? I'm looking for something to match the hardwoods bark of my hunting areas. Also what dye or stain should I get?
Thanks and God Bless,
Ken
I have a grey actionwood bow on order from Stalker Recurves. Grey limbs and risor to match the woods. South will be done with it by the end of the month I think. Here's what the riser will look like (left, all actionwood):

My Black Widow MA is gray hence the name Gray bark. I also saw a post where someone had a Shrew with Tamo Ash lams that were dyed gray and it looked fantastic.
I saw pics on here with a firefly that had gray quilted maple. I think it looked awesome, almost like smoke...Mike

I emailed you some pics of my gray curly maple BW PAX. Too much hassle to resize them for here.
If you look for some Shafer Silvertip threads you'll see some grey risers and stained limbs as well out of a curly maple veneers.
just do like me and tell him to make you a grey bark..like the widows..mine is definately gray and the red/white/black phenolics make it look super.
I went through a gray actionwood phase. Here's my tall tines and crow creek.

Thanks for all the info and pics!! I think I'm gonna tell Jim to go with the Greybark like TJ's (Fountain's) bow. I'm still gonna find out what Zebrawood and Tamo Ash look like stained though for a future bow when I get the funds.
I have had a Griffin and 7 eyes with grey stained tiger maple veneers on the back. They both turned out nice. The stripes turned out alot darker against the grey background. Both had black glass bellies.I can send you some pics if you like to evaluate?PM me if interested in pics with E-mail addy
