Title: limbs creaking during draw and during de stringing
Post by: Longspur77 on July 19, 2010, 05:15:00 PM
I got a problem, i dont think it is major but was wondering if i can be stopped. I have waxeds my string so that is a possiblity during the draw creak but when i have taken the string off and am letting down during destring phase i can hear the limb/bolt area sound like it is slipping or creaking. I checked my bolts and they are tight. I was wondering if there was any Lube that could be put on the riser under the limbs that would eliminate this.  Any info would help.

Bowstring wax on the pads where your limbs meet the riser. Works great and will eliminate the creaks..Henry

I had the same problem with a take down. After a lot of frustration I discovered that the locator  pins were press fitted and could be removed carefully with pliers. I removed all four of them, epoxyed them and that solved the problem for good.

I picked up a used TD recurve a few weeks back and it creaked when drawn back.  I cut some pads out of an old bicycle innertube and put it under the limbs, no more creaking.

Teflon spray works great, I have a take down that squeaked, one shot of teflon and a year later still no squeak.

Hey, great minds think alike!  I did that a couple weeks ago to my Samick Sage t/d and it worked wonders for the creak sound.  Also made the bow quieter after the shot.

The innertube or cork is a good idea.I would try that not only to reduce noice but also to keep water from getting between those joints thier that can cause problems with pin allignment holes and bolt holes. They can swell and crack if allowed to get wet.

I have used the BowString wax and it worked great to quiet the Take down limbs!

I have felt that I cut to fit inbetween the riser and limbs of my take down and that seems to work great!
